Chapter 21
Dillon slowly opened his eyes to the sun beaming down on him through his window. He shielded his eyes from the bright sun with his hand and rolled over to his side to face Georgie.
She was still sleeping. Never in his life had he seen someone so beautifulespecially when they were sleeping.
She had a small smile on her face. She must be dreaming, he thought. He hoped it was about him.
Slowly, she started squirming and she scrunched her nose as if she was trying really hard not to wake up. She moved around her eyes without opening them and then decided to give up the fight. She slowly opened her eyes and found Dillon smiling back at her. She gave him a warm smile and moved closer to him. She rested her forehead against his.
Good morning, she whispered close to his lips.
Good morning, Dillon said back, brushing his lips against hers.
Were you watching me? She grinned.
Maybe, Dillon responded. You look exceptionally beautiful when youre sleeping. Did you know that?
Georgie moved back and gave him a wide smile. I love you, she said moving in towards him. She planted a soft kiss on his lips and lingered there for a couple of seconds. Dillon moved his hand to the back of her neck and caressed his thumb over her soft skin.
I love you too, he said softly. He kissed her back on her lips tenderly. He moved away from her and rolled back so his whole body was facing up towards the ceiling. Georgie moved towards him and rested her head under his chin, on his chest. Dillon wrapped one arm around her waist.
That was a very nice sleep. You left me very tired, she giggled.
Did I now? I can do better though, Dillon said smiling.
Oh yeah?
Yeah.
Well have to see about that, Georgie said. She lifted her face and leaned towards him, kissing him softly.
I really dont want to ruin the moment but I think we need to talk about this, Dillon said.
Georgie suddenly got off of him and sat straight, pulling the blanket up to her chest. She knew exactly what he wanted to talk about. She wasnt sure she was ready though. The truth was, she was still in denial. Not being able to have children was the worst thing that could happen to a woman.
Dillon sat up and leaned back against the head board. If youre not ready then we dont have to
NoI want to talk about it. I havent-with anyone yet. And you would be my first pick, she laughed. Dillon leaned towards her and kissed her on the forehead. He sat back again and held her hand, waiting for her to say something.
I went to see Dr. Meadows a couple days ago and she ran some tests because I had asked if I could have children again. When I went to see her again I asked what the results were and she said that I couldnt have any more children and if I ever did become pregnant again, it would be a miracle.
Dillon looked away from her. Do you know why? He asked slowly.
Its something thats not that common. Its called scarring of the ovarian. Basically my eggs are trapped inside my ovary but Im not gonna get into details. There are ways to treat it but most of them are life-threatening, Georgie said as she watched Dillon. He looked like he wanted to kill someone. Dillon, Im over it. Its in the past now. I had to accept it and I did and Im moving on.
You cant accept something like this that fast Georgie, Dillon said looking at her. This is big. This is something thats going to be with you for the rest of your life.
Georgie looked down. Tears welled up in her eyes. Hearing that from Dillon made her finally realized that this was happening; that she wasnt in a horrible nightmare. She looked up back at him. Ill deal with it, she said quietly.
The sadness in her eyes broke his heart into a million pieces. He hated seeing her like this and was willing to do anything to make that look go away from her eyes. Georgie, Im here for you. I want to help you get through this, he said moving closer to her.
I know that. Thank you, Georgie said wrapping her arms around his neck. She rested her head on his shoulder and sobbed quietly.
~**~
That was a good latte, Georgie said smiling as she sat down on the bench at Inspiration Point. She tucked her hair behind her ear and looked over at Dillon who sat down next to her.
Are you okay? Youve been awfully quiet for the past few hours, Dillon said moving close to her. Thats the first thing youve said in awhile.
I just cant stop thinking about something, Georgie said looking down.
What?
She looked up at him and saw the concern in his eyes. Dillon, Im never going to have a family of my own. Im never going to have children.
That doesnt mean that you cant have a family, he said taking her hand. There are many ways for you to have a family.
Im never going to experience pregnancy again though, Georgie said sadly. Nothing will ever fill the emptiness that I have now.
Hey, youre still fortunate enough to have had that experience at least once right? It may have not been for that long but you went through some of it. Some women dont get to experience that. But you have. Dillon said. He looked at her realizing that it wasnt helping much. I know that nothing I say or do will help you get over this. This is something that you have to overcome yourself.
Dillon, thats not true. Youre already helping me more than you know. Just you being here is more than enough. Thank you, Georgie said genuinely.
I wish I could do more though, Dillon said looking away.
Its enough Dillon. Honestly, its enough. She cupped his face and turned him to her. She leaned in and kissed him softly. Thank you, she whispered.
I was thinking about something, Dillon started. Maybe you can adopt? You can afford it and maybe it will help you get over this.
I dont know Dillon. Its a great idea, no doubt about that. I mean I thought about it myself too Georgie said looking away.
Then whats the problem?
I dont wanna do it alone. I cant do it alone, she said looking him in the eye.
Who said you have to do it alone? Georgie, Im here for you. Im willing to do this with you, Dillon said.
Dillon, I dont want you to make that kind of a commitment. Youre not ready for that, she argued.
And how would you know that?
Dillon-
Lets get married, he blurted out.
What!?
Dillon sighed. He looked at her and said, Will you marry me?
What? Are you serious?
Im dead serious. Georgie, Im already committed to you. I love you.
You want to spend the rest of your life with me? Georgie asked. Tears welled up in her eyes. Are you willing to deal with the fact that well never have children of our own?
Ive already accepted that. Now its your turn.

Georgie and Dillon walked into their apartment. Georgie plopped down on the sofa.
You still havent answered my question, Dillon yelled as he walked into the kitchen. Georgie smiled to herself. He came back out into the living room and sat down next to her on the sofa. So sweetheart, what will be? He asked grinning.
I think you know what the answer is, Georgie said smiling at him.
No, I dont think I do. Can you tell meplease? Dillon asked.
Georgie laughed. She leaned over towards him and kissed him on the cheek. Yes, she whispered.
Dillon immediately got up and said, Great! Lets get this done tomorrow. That way we can call the adoption agency and set up an appointment, he said looking down at her.
Georgie smiled, Dillon sit down.
Wha-
Just come here, she said. He sat down next to her. Are you sure you wanna do this? I mean are you sure youre ready for this?
Yes, Im sure, he said. He took her hand and kissed it softly. Do you want a big, fancy wedding? Cause we can wait then.
No, no. You know Im not the fancy-wedding type. Besides I want to get married right away so we can start our family, she smiled.
Great, he said. He leaned over and kissed her softly. I cant wait. He got up off the sofa. He reached out his hand to her and she grabbed it and stood up. He bent down and slipped his hand around her legs and picked her up. Georgie wrapped her arms around his neck. She kissed his cheek softly.
He carried her away.
