Chapter 1
He sat there absorbing her words. “You deserve to be happy.” He let the small card dangle between his fingertips as he passed it to her watching as she reached out with the same two slender digits and took it from him
She felt her stomach tighten with anxiety and pain. “Thanks… I am.” She swallowed hard not willing to look him in the eye afraid that he would be able to read her like an open book. “So… I’ll see you at school.” It was more of a question then a statement. She waited for him to say something, anything. She wasn’t sure what there was left to say but she remained silent hoping that there was more… but he only nodded.
The lump in his throat was holding him back practically choking him with grief while his heart broke.
She jumped up before she burst into tears not willing to let go until she was out of his sight.
He heard the back legs of the chair scrape the floor as she got up and before he could stop himself, before he had time to consider the repercussions of his actions he reached out grabbed her arm taking a stand and pulling her into him. “This is crazy.” He muttered before he crashed his lips into hers. His mouth moved over hers possessively as his hands reached up to her face and cupped her cheeks.
She felt him as he invaded her personal space and kissed her like he owned her and perhaps in some small way he did. She felt her resolve crack and respond to his kiss without her own consent. Her lips parted ever so slightly to take in air, his air… and as she did his tongue slipped inside. It was warm and sweet like coke and M&M’s. As she reached out to take hold of his jacket he pulled back and stared down into her.
Her eyes were hazy with desire and shock. Her lips were slightly swollen and he subconsciously licked his own tasting the watermelon lip-gloss now on his tender flesh.
“Dillon…” His name left her lips in a stunned whisper.
“I don’t know who Tom is and I don’t care what kind of connection you think you have with him. It can’t… it can’t compete with us. He may make you happy but he doesn’t make you feel like this.” He remarked with blatant honesty.
She shook her head trying to argue with him but the protest only died on her lips. “You don’t know that…” She tried.
“I do know that. You know maybe I’m selfish… maybe I don’t deserve you. I’m not too sure anymore. But what I do know is that you’ve just dragged us into some kind of romantic triangle and I almost feel sorry for Tom because between the two of us a heart is bound to get broken… and I’ll be damned if it’s going to be mine!” He stated staring at her intensely before shoving his hands in his pockets and walking out of Kelly’s as if a man on a mission.

Chapter 2: Fate Plays Her Own Game
Dillon emerged into the crisp night air. He turned up his collar and zipped up his coat as he looked over his shoulder back through the glass windows into Kelly’s. He could see her still standing there, still stunned. He hadn’t planned on kissing her nor had he thought he would say what he said. But enough was enough. This merry-go-round they were on was too complicated already without her trying to add a third horse to the ride. This was about them and he would be damned if someone was going to come in and steal her away. He already had to deal with one ‘brain-dead superficial teenage jerk’ when he first came to town. He wasn’t trying to do that again with another pseudo-Lucas. If he had to force Georgie to see what they had wasn’t over then he would pull out all the stops and more. She was his girl and the sooner she realized that the better. He sighed as he raised his hands to his lips and blew hot air into his rounded fists trying to warm them. He turned as he heard footsteps and saw as Maxie approached. “Hey Maxie.” He tried.
“Hey Amoebae Scum!” She replied walking past him and into Kelly’s toward her sister.
He sighed letting his head fall forward. He should have expected that. Just as he turned to walk away he heard the sound of another pair of feet.
“Dillon! Dillon!” Sage called running up to him.
He turned to her with a tired air and rolled his eyes. “What?”
“You have to help me! My uncle is missing!” She stated frantically.
“What are you talking about? What do you mean he’s missing?”
“Did I stutter? We were suppose to meet at the Haunted Star and he never showed.”
“Maybe he had to go out of town on a business meeting! Why are you getting so worked up?”
She shook her head. “You don’t understand! None of his guards have seen him and the one that was shadowing him was found on the bridge knocked out! We have to do something!”
He stood there his mind racing. “Listen to me. You need to stay out of this. If something has happened to your uncle I am sure that he can take care of himself. I mean that’s what he does!”
“How can you say that? How can you abandon him when he needs us?”
“Because he doesn’t need us, Sage!”
“You are so two-faced! My uncle was there for you when you needed money to stay in Port Charles. He gave you protection for that dishrag of an ex-girlfriend that you have! He looked out for you when he didn’t have to and this is what you do, nothing! Well you know what to hell with you!” She stormed off angrily just as Ned came up.
“You want to tell me what that was all about?”
Inside Kelly’s…
She raised her fingertips to her slightly swollen lips and felt the tender flesh. Her mind flashed to just moments ago and the way he grabbed her and kissed her as though she belonged to him. IT was the best feeling she had ever had.
“Georgie... Georgie!” Maxie waved her hand in front of her sister trying to regain the younger girl’s attention.
She snapped to attention, and looked up at Maxie. “Hey… what?” She asked confused.
“Where were you just now?”
“I was… nowhere… why?”
Maxie raised an eyebrow but decided not to push it. “Well? What happened?” She asked anxiously. She may not think that Georgie’s plan was the best but if she was going to be apart of it then she wanted to remain in the know. “What did Dillon say when he saw the card?”
Georgie let a small smile creep into her features. “He wants to fight for me.” She whispered mainly to herself.
“So then it worked?”
She nodded and then a thought occurred to her. “Yeah but that’s only until he realizes that Tom isn’t real and then it’s going to be back to the way things were! He’s going to think that no other guy really wants me!”
“Georgie just wait a minute…”
“No! You don’t understand. A few flowers and some bogus card isn’t enough! I need to find a real boyfriend and fast!” She stated with finality.
Maxie shook her head. “Easier said then done.”
“I know… Hey I need to get over to the hospital to start my shift. Are you coming?”
“Not tonight. Hey I’ll meet you when you get off though and we’ll think of something.”
“Thanks Max.” She said with a small smile heading for the door.
Meanwhile outside…
Dillon related the sketchy details to Ned and as he finished he ran his fingers through his hair. “So?” He asked.
“So what?” Asked Ned.
“What should I do?”
“You want my honest opinion?”
“Yes, please.”
“Stay out of it!”
“What do you mean?”
“Just what I said Dillon. Listen to me you’re a kid. And don’t get me wrong. You’re bright and smart and a great person. But you are still just a kid, not some movie hero out to save the troubled girl from some real danger. And trust me when I say that it is real! You could get killed and then what? Your whole life would be over and for what? For some drug-lord and his niece? Is that really what you want?”
He sighed. “I know what you’re saying and I hear you. But I can’t just turn my back on her. I’m the closest thing she has to a family. I mean I may not be a hero of some movie and at the moment that’s fine, but I am a guy who can’t turn away from someone who is obviously in trouble…”
“Even if it costs you everything?”
He shrugged. “That’s a chance I might have to take.”
“I hope you don’t live to regret those words… I really do.” He stated walking off.
Dillon watched him go before exiting in his own direction.
Georgie stood in the entranceway of Kelly’s fear clouding her eyes. She sighed realizing that once again she was about to do something incredibly stupid for the best reasons! She hurried off in her own direction not knowing what lye ahead.
On the pier…
Carly ran her fingers through her blond tresses trying desperately to shake the images of Lorenzo from her head but the feelings were so intense and it was so hard. No one understood what she was going through. Even when she tried to talk to Jason about it, the one person who always managed to get her, it was to no avail. And now there was a good possibility that Jason was going to kill him. And in her head she wanted to believe that it was for the best. To get him out of sight might get him out of mind, but her heart was telling her something completely different. Raising her head to the sky she reveled in the winter wind as it brushed across her face desperately trying to cool her skin. She never heard the footsteps as they came down the stairs, on the cock of the gun as it pointed at her back. She turned and her eyes rested on the young brunette in front of her… She raised a brow as she stared at the shiny metal in the girl’s hand. “Can I help you?”
“Where is my uncle?” Sage demanded trying to keep her hands steady. She had never held a gun before and it showed.
“Are you crazy?” Carly asked unbelievably. She had no fear that this girl was going to shoot her. She didn’t have the guts for it…
“I’m going to ask you one more time…”
“And then what? What; you’re going to shoot me? I don’t think you can. Do you know what it feels like to shoot someone? To feel the force as the bullet leaves the barrel and speeds across a room? I do.”
“Just tell me where my uncle is.”
“I don’t know.”
“Liar!” She screamed as her hands began to shake with rage and fear.
Carly sensed the intensity that was Sage and felt just the slightest bit of fear creep into her chest. “Listen to me you need to put that gun down before you hurt someone!” She stated sensing Sage’s desperation. She knew what that felt like and knew just how easy it was to take that step without meaning to. There was a definite difference between gunning someone down and accidentally shooting someone but at the moment the lines were blurred.
“Tell me where he is… I need to find him.”
“Okay just slow down…”
“He’s the only family that I have and your husband is going to kill him. You don’t want that… you can’t.” She whispered tearfully.
Carly took a step forward reaching out… “No… I don’t…”
Georgie rounded the corner and saw the familiar blond hair and on instinct began running down the steps. “Mrs. Corinthos I really need to talk to you about Dillon…”
Those were the only words that she managed before a shot was fired and it seemed the entire world came to a halt!

Chapter 3: A Cataclysmic Moment
She felt the bullet leave the gun with such force and closed her eyes feeling the regret of her actions long before it hit its target. Her hands remained still as the scent of gunpowder invaded her nose traveling on the night winter air. And in that moment she knew that nothing would ever be the same.
Standing helpless she watched what she could not stop. She felt her heart leap inside her chest not believing that this was happening. Things like this just didn’t happen. Situations such as these lived in movies filled with Mob molls and rat packs. They were reserved for the gangsters and mobsters that only existed in the time frame allotted for a cinema production but not her… never her.
The silence was deafening for seconds as no one moved and everything seemed to live in a framed portrait. Ever so slowly Georgie searched Sage’s deep brown eyes with the gun still firmly within her grasp pointed directed at her flashing briefly at Carly’s before looking down at the new hole in her own coat right in the crook of her shoulder. And as she blinked once, twice, time seemed to catch up with itself and she watched as the dark crimson stain began to emerge from the inside out staining the cream wool that was her coat. She looked up sharply at Sage whose hands were shaking something horrible. “You shot me.” She remarked softly; putting her hand over the bullet wound as the pain began to register in her brain.
Carly seemed to snap to attention as she heard the words almost as if hearing it made it real. Rushing over to the dark blond she steadied her as she sat her down onto the steps. “Let me see.” She remarked unbuttoning Georgie’s coat swiftly and pulling back the lapel. She cursed silently at the sweater underneath making her take that much longer as she ripped the small hole apart to get a look at her flesh. The wound went in neat but so far she could see no exit wound. Sighing deeply she undid the scarf from around her neck and pressed it firmly to the wound. She looked up as Georgie whimpered softly. “Hey… Georgie.”
“She shot me.” She replied softly obviously going into shock looking down as the blood soaked Carly’s scarf.
“It was an accident… I didn’t mean it. I didn’t…”Sage muttered almost incoherently.
Carly looked up. “Hey listen to me. Call 911!” She ordered. When she saw that she wasn’t moving she grew agitated. This was not the time to lose it. “Sage… Sage look at me!” She demanded. When she got her attention she continued. “Call 911! Tell them that a girl was shot on pier 52 and then hang-up. You hear me? You tell them that a girl’s been shot on Pier 52 and then hang-up, don’t let them keep you on the line no matter what!”
Sage nodded as if understanding reaching for her cell phone with one hand while still holding the gun.
“Not with your cell. Go to the payphone!” She ordered thinking just like a mobster’s wife.
“Okay… okay.” Sage muttered going to the pay phone at the end of the docks.
Carly looked back up at Georgie who had become strangely quiet. “Hey… you still with me?” She asked reaching up to touch the young girl’s cheek. “Listen to me… it’s going to be all right… Believe it or not, I was in training to be a nurse.” She laughed softly without much humor.
Georgie sighed as the pain began to ease seeking comfort in it not knowing how bad that was. “It… doesn’t hurt… too much.” She managed softly as her eyes began to droop.
Carly felt a surge of fear run through her. “No! No! Stay with me! You hear me? Talk to me Georgie!” She pressed harder into her wound and watched Georgie flinch with the new pain. “You can’t sleep. You can’t.” She stated softly.
Just then Sage came back. “They’re on their way.” She remarked staring at the damage that she had done. “What do I do?”
“Get over here.” She ordered. Sage walked over timidly. Carly reached out taking her hand and pressing it to Georgie’s wound. “Hold it there and give me the gun.” She said grabbing the steel quickly and taking a stand as Sage took her previous space.
“I don’t know what to do.” She remarked.
“Keep that scarf on that wound as tightly as you can.” She stated walking over to the edge of the pier and tossing the gun into the water. Watching for a second or so as it disappeared into the blackness of the water into a watery abyss. Turning back she went to Georgie’s side and grabbed her purse she handed it to Sage. “Take this home and flush whatever you can, and what you can’t flush I want you to burn!” She ordered.
Sage took the contents looking at strangely. “I don’t understand…” She began.
“Do you want to go to Jail or prison? Then do what I’m telling you. Go home and get rid of the entire purse and whatever is in it! And don’t say a word to anyone about this. Just go home and wait!” She ordered with such finality in her voice that the younger girl didn’t bare to argue. Taking a stand she hurried off leaving Carly alone with Georgie as they heard the distant wails of the ambulance approach.
Sitting beside her she sighed. “Georgie… Georgie are you listening to me? I need you to look at me.” It took a few seconds before Georgie turned in her direction her eyes gazing into Carly’s. “I need you to do me a favor… when they ask you what happened I want you to tell them that you were mugged… can you do that? If anyone asks what happened; can you tell them that you were attacked on the docks and I scared them away?”
Her eyes had begun to water, partially from the cold but more from the weight of what had just happened. She didn’t understand exactly what was happening or why Carly was asking her to lie but she wouldn’t question it… she could barely speak the pain was so great. So instead she nodded.
A small smile crept into Carly’s lips as she reached up and stroked her hair as they waited in silence as the ambulance approached.

Chapter 4: Everyone's Got An Angle...What's Yours?
The world moved in slow motion it seemed. She could see the flashing lights of red and blue as they shined against the night sky in the distance. Men in white running up to them spouting off questions that she couldn’t comprehend and floating faces as they hovered above her perhaps calling her name. It all faded into one massive incomprehensible blur before everything was just quiet and there was nothing…
Carly stood back watching them as they grabbed her up trying to do what they did best. She took a step back watching the scene. As they made her ready for the gurney she stood with the scarf still clutched tightly in her hands.
Looking over his shoulder the attendant stared at her. “Are you riding with us?”
She hesitated for just a moment before nodding, following them into the back of the ambulance.
Meanwhile at Alcazar’s penthouse…
Sage tore into the house as though hounds were on the backs of her feet. Closing the door behind her firmly she went straight to the bathroom not even bothering to remove her coat. Pulling Georgie’s purse open she lifted the toil bowl and began chucking everything that would fit inside before flushing. She went to the fireplace next, throwing whatever was left inside the purse and the container itself into the fire… Her eyes blurred with fresh new tears as she relived that moment… that one moment that had led to this. Looking down at her hands still covered in blood, Georgie’s blood she whimpered with the emotion of a child. Sobbing she stripped down to nothing and went to the shower.
At the Hospital…
Maxie stepped off the elevator brushing remnants of fallen snow off of her coat, loosening her scarf and going straight to the receptionist desk. “Hey Amy, have you seen Georgie?”
Amy sighed exasperated. “No! And you know what it’s not like her to just not show up for a shift like this. And we could have really used her tonight! Some young girl is being brought in here with gunshot wound straight in the arm and we’re already shorthanded as it is.” She shook her head frustrated grabbing a stack of papers off the desk to go file.
Maxie furrowed her brow. That was extremely weird. It wasn’t like Georgie not to show up, especially with Warden Mac always on their cases. Pulling out her cell phone she dialed her number only receiving an ‘out of range’ response from the operator. “Georgie where the hell are you?” She asked herself silently.
As if to answer her question the elevator doors opened. The paramedics stepping off first with a gurney between their hands. She heard them shouting off numbers and whatnot that she had long ago dubbed the language of medicine before spotting the notorious blond next making her stop in her tracks. Carly Corinthos; the mob wife, it wasn’t an unusual scene. It wasn’t until they wheeled the gurney around that she saw her sister’s face covered by an oxygen mask.
“Georgie?” She asked taking it all in. “Hey wait a minute that’s my sister! What… Georgie!” She screamed running to her side.
Carly stepped back letting the sister take her place. She looked up as she saw her mother assess the scene before getting Georgie to ICU. She turned to her daughter. “What happened? Are you okay?” She asked.
Carly nodded. “Don’t worry…”
“There’s blood all over you.”
“It’s not mine… it’s hers.”
Bobbie nodded sensing something was off. “What’s going on? Is this about Sonny?”
Carly shook her head. “No mom! Georgie was mugged on the docks and I came around the corner, heard a shot and then the guy took off… Look maybe you should call Mac you know!” She ordered impatiently.
Bobbie shook her head. “Yeah… you stay here.”
Carly nodded but said nothing. She waited until she was out of sight before pulling out her phone and dialed. “Hey… I need you to get down to the hospital right now.” With that she hung up before dialing another number. "Courtney, listen I need you to listen to me and don't ask questions. It's impairitive that we do this right. No mistakes." She began...
The pier…
Dillon ran down the steps still in search of Sage. She had seemed to vanish right into thin air and he wanted to make sure that she didn’t go off and do something extremely stupid. But so far all of his searching had been in vain. Stopping for a moment he raised his head to the night sky feeling the chilly wind rush over his face giving him a moment to stop and think about what he was doing. He was running around once again trying to play the hero to someone that he claimed meant nothing to him… but that wasn’t entirely true. In his own way he cared for Sage… okay maybe cared was too strong of a word. He felt responsible for her. Alcazar had trusted him to do a job and he had made a promise to him… and living in a world where promises were broken to him all the time he wanted to be different. And yet somehow he was still breaking promises… to himself… to Georgie. He just couldn’t get it right. All he wanted was for things to go back to the way things used to be.
“What are you doing out here?” Mac asked coming down the steps.
Dillon snapped his head forward looking at the older man. He rolled his eyes. “Just thinking.” He remarked.
Mac squinted his eyes as though not believing. “Well maybe you should pick another place to think. It’s not safe to be out here at night.”
“I can take care of myself.” He shot back not wanting a lecture.
“Right… Quartermaines always think that harm can’t touch them. You think you rule Port Charles.”
“What is your problem man?” He asked frustrated.
“My problem is you! You think that you’re just so much better and that you can’t get hurt! Where having run-ins with the mob and working for them is something glamorous. And if you want to live your life like that, then fine! But stay away from Georgie. Don’t go trying to drag her into that make-believe world where getting shot at and running away is fun!”
Dillon shook his head angrily. “I am so tired of you trying to run her life! You know what you’re angry about! It’s not about me wanting to be with her! It’s about any guy willing to come into her life and show her that there’s more to it then school and an after school job! You are so afraid to just let her go and have her grow-up that you’re trying to push me out of her life! Well guess what, you and my mother should get together sometime! Don’t you get it? It doesn’t matter if it’s me or someone else, it’s not going to matter. You’re going to hate us all and Georgie’s still going to grow-up. And what’s really sad is that why you’re fighting so hard to keep her safe you’re going to push her away and lose her!”
“You’re not good for her and the sooner…” He got cut off as his phone rang. With sheer frustration he pulled out his phone. “What?” Listening intently he felt his throat close-up with fear. “Georgie what… where is she? Yeah, Maxie you stay right there and I’m coming.” He hung up forgetting Dillon altogether.
“What’s wrong? What happened?”
Mac whirled around on him. “Georgie’s been shot… You still think I’m overprotective?” He asked bitterly as he walked away.
Dillon stood there for a moment swallowing hard before going after Mac.
The Hospital…
Carly waited pacing desperately in front of the elevator waiting…
She jumped slightly when she felt a hand on her shoulder. “What?” She asked looking up into Jason’s eyes. “How did you do that?”
“I took the stairs. What’s going on? You called and said that it was an emergency.”
“We do… Sage Alcazar shot Georgie on the pier and I need you to do everything that you can to clean this up.”
Alcazar’s penthouse…
Sage emerged from the steaming shower in a pair of sweats with her hair pulled up into a tight bun. Her eyes red and bloodshot from all the crying. Looking over at the roaring fire she stared into the orange flames as they licked at whatever was left of Georgie’s belongings. So caught up in her thoughts that she jumped about a foot in the air when she heard the rapping at her door. She didn’t answer.
“Sage… Sage I know you’re in there. It’s me Courtney… Carly called me.” She said on the other side.
Sage released a shaky breath going to the door and opening it.
Courtney gave her a smile that never reached her eyes as she walked across the threshold. She rubbed her gloved hands together trying to keep them warm.
Closing the door behind her she turned to the blond. “Carly sent you?” She asked skeptically. “Why?”
“Because she wanted to make sure that you were okay… Are you?”
She shook her head. “Being that I just shot someone, I’m doing remarkable well.” She bit out walking by Courtney.
The blond sighed. “Yeah… look I know how you feel.”
She shook her head. “I doubt that. I don’t even know if there’s a word for what’s going on inside my head…” She swallowed hard. “Have you seen Georgie? Is she okay?”
Courtney shrugged. “I don’t know. Carly didn’t give me too many details… just told me the semantics.”
“She could die…” She whispered softly. “I don’t even know what happened. One minute I was holding a gun on Carly asking her about my Uncle… I just wanted to know where he was. I wasn’t planning to hurt her. I mean I just wanted to scare her a little… so she would tell me where he was. I swear I never intended to pull the trigger.” She sniffled as the tears came to her eyes. “I was just so angry and scared… and then I heard a voice. I turned and… I don’t know.” She let the sentence trail away. “She could die…”
Courtney walked across the room and sat down beside Sage. “I don’t think that she’s going to die… From what Carly said she thought that Georgie was going to be all right.”
“But what if she’s not? I mean God! Everything just happened so fast and…”
“And now you’re all messed-up inside. You’re scared and worried that you might have taken another person’s life.” She stated matter-of-factly.
“Yeah… how?”
“Because I’ve shot someone before. You know I’m not going to lie to you, you’ll never feel the same. After something like that you can’t. But what you can do is learn from it and not put yourself in that position again.”
Sage nodded. “I just wish that I could take it all back.”
“I know… Look why don’t you go wash your face while I make you some tea or something.” She offered. “I’ll even stay for a little while.”
Sage nodded. “Okay… thanks.” She remarked taking a stand and walking to the bathroom.
Courtney watched her until she was out of sight before taking a stand and walking over to the pile of clothes that were still on the floor. Biting her lower lip she knelt down and sifted through the clothes until she found what she was looking for. Pulling out a plastic bag from her purse she put it inside and zipped it up and put it back in her purse making sure to put her gloves inside it as well. Pulling out an identical pair of gloves she put those on. Looking around the apartment she closed her eyes not wanting to trust Carly and whatever scheme she had pulled her into.
At the hospital…
Jason raised an eyebrow not understanding. “What are you talking about? Why would Alcazar’s niece shoot Georgie… Jones?” He asked adding her last name on not sure if that’s what it was.
“Because she was coming after me… looking for her uncle.” She stated.
He closed his eyes and shook his head. “What the hell happened?”
“I don’t have time to go into details Jason. Not right now. I need you to go and talk to Georgie… you know make sure she doesn’t talk, especially before Mac comes in and starts in on her and she says something!”
Jason placed his hands on his hips. “What? What are you trying to do?”
“Look Sage is just a kid. She made a mistake Jason. It was an accident. She was scared and upset. She never meant to shoot anyone. I know.” Taking a moment she sighed. “I remember what it’s like to be desperate and to do stupid things! I had to pay for those… but Sage doesn’t… not now. Not like I did.”
He closed his eyes hearing her words. “Fine… I’ll do it. I’ll talk to her.” As the words were out of his mouth the elevator doors opened and Mac stepped off.
“Where is she? Where is my daughter?” He asked.
Jason turned back to Carly and gave her look. “Too late… there’s no way that he’s going to let me anywhere near her now.”

Chapter Five: The Web of Deceit a Layer of Lies and maybe just a Hint of the Truth
Carly shook her head and hit Jason in the arm to get his attention. “Wait until I give you the signal and then go to Georgie’s room. It’s on the second floor… I know that much.” She remarked before leaving him and crossing to Mac.
Jason would have called out to her but never had the chance. She was already opening her mouth and speaking. “Mac, maybe I can help in telling you what happened tonight.” Carly stated bracing herself for his wrath.
Mac whirled around on her. “Carly Corinthos! Why is it that when there’s trouble, you or your husband or Jason aren’t too far behind! I swear if Georgie is hurt because of you…” He began but Carly put up her hand.
“Hold on a second! Before you start damning me and my ways you should know that if it weren’t for me, your daughter could be dead!” She shot back gaining his full attention as well as most of the people in the lobby.
Jason took that as his cue sneaking into the stairwell and heading upstairs unnoticed by all… all except Dillon who watched him go with a raised brow.
Meanwhile…
Everything was so quiet… so peaceful and for the first time in a long time she was happy; okay happy wasn’t the right word. She was content. She wasn’t restless or in pain or even mildly concerned with anyone or anything. And somehow the thought of being completely settled… unsettled her and made her uneasy. And then it dawned on her… she couldn’t stay like this; to stay like this wouldn’t mean peace… it was death. She would die…
The thought awakened her with a start. Her eyes flew open as if they were programmed to do so and she just stared up at the ceiling before something in her peripheral vision caught her attention and she looked over into the stoic face of Jason Morgan.
“What’s going on?” She asked softly trying to readjust her body into a more comfortable position. She winced as the pain shot up through the side of her arm.
“Be careful… let me help you.” He stated reaching over to brace her body as she shifted. She smiled up at him gratefully.
“What the…” She trailed off as she saw her bandaged limb and it all started to come back to her. “Oh… that’s right. I was shot. Sage shot me.” She thought out loud.
“No… that’s not what happened.”
She looked up at him strangely. “Did I just dream that she shot me? Because I vividly remember her pulling the trigger.” She remarked with a bit of sarcasm that wasn’t lost on Jason.
“We need to talk.”
“About what?” She asked.
He sighed as he pulled up a chair to the side of her bed and taking a seat. Folding his arms together he looked at her with intense blue eyes. “We need to talk about what you’re going to tell Mac and anyone else about what happened tonight.”
She remained silent remembering Carly’s request. “Sage… didn’t shoot me.” When he nodded she continued. “I was on the pier on my way… home?” She asked somewhat shyly and waited for his confirmation.
“Right.”
“And that’s when I was attacked… by a mugger…” She finished.
“What did he look like?” He asked.
She opened her mouth to speak and then shut it again… “Uh… he had… black hair…” She began when Jason shook his head.
“No he didn’t.” He replied.
“No he didn’t.” She repeated. “Why didn’t he?”
“Because you never saw him. You never saw what he looked like. He came at you from behind grabbed you and went for your purse. You got scared and tried to run for it. He grabbed you by the arm perhaps, somehow he backed you up, pulled out his gun and fired. Then you heard a scream and he took off.”
“The scream… that was Carly, right?”
He nodded once again. “Just trust me on this. It makes the story a lot easier to remember if there are no descriptions involved. You just say that you never saw his face and you can’t remember anything about him. Not weight, hair color, eyes… it’s all a blank. Can you do that?”
She nodded. “Yeah… I guess but… why? Why am I lying to the police about Sage and Carly. I mean Sage tried to kill Mrs. Corinthos and you and Carly want to protect her. Why is that? I mean I thought that you protected Sonny and his family. Isn’t that your job?”
He sighed realizing that her questions were valid and intelligent ones. The only problem was he wasn’t sure how he could answer them when he didn’t truly understand the answers himself. “A part of my job is to protect Sonny and his family. I am to keep them safe and do whatever I can to make sure that they’re never in danger; but I also have to listen to them and do things that don’t always make sense to me.”
“Why?” She asked softly.
“Because they ask me to.”
She nodded. “Even if it might hurt them?”
Throwing his head back he tried to sort out the details in his mind. “Sometimes.”
“Do you ever try and stop them?” She asked.
He nodded. “Sometimes… but they don’t usually hear me.”
“Then what do you do? How do you protect them from hurting themselves?” She asked softly.
“The best way you know how.” He answered. “Whatever it takes.”
“Even if you hurt yourself?”
“Sometimes.” He replied.
“That doesn’t seem fair and it doesn’t make sense. I mean Sonny pays you to keep him alive and safe from those out in the world to hurt him and his family but then he goes around and hurts himself in the end? Then you have to stand back and let him do it and then at the last moment run in and try to clean everything up? That’s not right.” She remarked. “We shouldn’t have to… I mean you shouldn’t have to put up with that.”
“You know I don’t always understand why Carly or even Sonny asks me to do what I do, but I do it. Because I love them and they’re important to me. Even if they’re asking me to protect someone that might have tried to hurt them. Their reasons don’t always make sense to me, but they may make sense to them. I just have to live with it. That’s my job.”
She looked up at him with sad brown eyes. “Mine too.” She whispered feeling just the slightest bit of a connection with this man she never knew.
Meanwhile…
Dillon took the elevator up to her floor abandoning the scene in the lobby between Mac and Carly. He wanted to see Georgie before the entire cavalry stepped onto the scene; meaning Mac and his police force. As he came upon her room he saw that the door was ajar and there were muffled voices within. Peeking inside half-expecting to see Tom on the other side he raised an eyebrow when he recognized his cousin. He couldn’t really tell what they were saying the words were too muffled and he could only catch certain words from his side…
“So… agreed?” He heard Jason.
“Yeah… wish… didn’t…. lie about… but if… Carly…then…”
“I’ll owe you.” Was the last sentence he heard before he heard the back legs of the chair scrape against the floor and watched Jason take a stand about to exit. He didn’t know why but he ran to the corner and hid on the other side not wanting to be seen. He watched as Jason emerged from the room and made a hasty exit down the steps.
Dillon stood there not sure what that was all about but certain to find out. As he approached the door he heard the bell for the elevator and watched as Mac stepped off… perhaps his inquiries would have to wait just a little longer…
Carly sighed as she watched Mac go up to his daughter. She had done the best she could and hoped that Jason was long out of Georgie’s room by now. Before she had time to think about it Courtney came down the hall. “Carly…”She called.
“Hey Courtney… how did it go?” She asked pulling the girl aside to a discreet corner.
Courtney sighed. “I still don’t know what you’re going to do with this and I’m not sure I want to know but here… will this do?” She asked pulling out the clear plastic baggy with its contents inside.
Carly nodded. “That will do just fine… okay I need you to do one more thing.”
“Carly…”
“I promise it’s painless and you won’t have to do really much of anything.”
“What do I have to do?” She asked skeptically.
Spotting Jason as he emerged from the stairwell she looked at Courtney. “Just ask Jason to walk you home?”
“What?”
“You heard me. I need you to keep him busy for about an hour while I go somewhere.”
“Where are you going to go? What are you up to?” She asked.
“No time. Just do what I say and we’ll talk about it later. Now come on. I need you to do this for me.” She said watching as Jason walked over to them. His eyes locked on Courtney almost instantly. “Hey.” He offered.
She nodded. “Hey.” She replied.
“What are you doing here?” He asked.
Courtney sighed. “Well Carly called she told me what went down and I was worried about her. So I came.”
“I tried to tell her that it was too late to be out here by herself but she wouldn’t listen to me.” Carly chimed in.
“I don’t need you to take care of me Carly.”
“But she’s right. You shouldn’t be out here by yourself. Let me call a driver for you.”
“NO!” Carly practically shouted. “I mean… why do that when you could just walk her home?” She offered with a smile.
Jason sighed not wanting to go there. “You know I really don’t think that Courtney wants me to walk her home.”
“Why wouldn’t I? You were always my very best protector. Has that changed?” She asked sincerely.
“Never.” He replied.
“Then it’s settled. You two go on and I’m going to talk to my mother before calling a car.”
“Make sure that you call! Last night was too close.” Jason stated formerly.
“Would you get out of here already! You’re acting like someone’s mother!” She remarked snidely watching them go with an anxious eye before exiting through the south exit.
Meanwhile upstairs…
Georgie sighed as she watched Jason leave. There were a lot of things that she didn’t understand. There were so many questions that she had but before she could think about them the door opened and there was Mac. He rushed to her as if she were on her deathbed and sat in Jason’s previous seat. “Georgie… are you all right?” He didn’t wait for an answer as he pulled her into a gentle hug. It was snug and held for a moment longer then usual as he just relished in the mere fact of her being safe and sound.
“I’m fine Mac.” She whispered into his shoulder softly breathing in his fatherly scent.
When he pulled back he looked over at her bandaged shoulder and sighed. “Georgie look at you… how did this happen?”
“I… I was mugged.” She remarked.
“Yeah I heard… from none other then Carly! Why is it that every time there’s trouble she’s not too far behind?” He asked shaking his head.
“That’s not the way it was. If it hadn’t been for Carly I… I might have died.” She shot back.
He raised an eyebrow. “Look Georgie I know that you’re tired but do you think that perhaps you can tell me what happened?”
“Dad… I’m so tired…” She protested.
“I know sweetie but the best way to catch this guy is to get the details while they’re still fresh in your mind. Just tell me everything that you remember. Can you do that?” He asked.
She stared up at him trusting him like no other then the world and believing in his words better then any other but that didn’t stop the hesitation nor the lies that she told him as she relayed the story to him that she had rehearsed with Jason only moments ago…”
Dillon waited patiently outside her door trying to listen to her story. And although everything she said made sense in his head he still couldn’t figure out what Jason Morgan was doing at her room. He heard the door open and watched as Mac left. “Just rest honey. And I’ll be back in the morning.” He remarked before closing the door and going to file his police report. He would catch this son-of-a-bitch if it were the last thing he did.
Dillon stood around the corner until he was sure that Mac was gone before finally approaching her door…
Upon opening it he expected to see her still in bed cuddled under the covers but she wasn’t. Instead she was fumbling with her jeans as she did her best to get into them. Sensing someone else in the room she looked up and her eyes locked with Dillon’s.
“Dillon…” She whispered looking at him with wide brown eyes. “What are you…” She began.
“No, what are you doing? Where are you going?” He asked closing the door on instinct so no one would walk by and see them.
She swallowed hard trying desperately to think of something off the top of her head. “I was… I uh…” She began.
“And don’t lie to me. You were never good at it.”
She rolled her eyes. “You’d be surprised at what I’ve become good at.” She muttered under her breath. Looking up at him she sighed. “What are you doing here?”
“You were shot… I was worried about you.” Stepping further into the room he stared at her bandaged arm. Stopping about a foot away from her he reached out gently to touch her arm as if the pain she felt were his own and perhaps in some way it was. “Are you okay?”
She swallowed hard feeling the heat from his body despite the chill in the hospital room. “It’s… it’s nothing. Just a flesh wound.” She stated knowing that wasn’t entirely true… in fact it wasn’t true at all.
“I should have been there… I should have been there to protect you.” He whispered moving his hand from the bandage to the side of her face.
She closed her eyes feeling a wave of emotions that were desperately trying to come out. She braced herself and pushed his hand away. “It’s no big deal Dillon. I was just mugged. I shouldn’t have been out by the pier anyway.” She stated.
“Why were you? The last time I saw you… you were at Kelly’s. So why did you go to the pier?”
She remained silent for a moment thinking back on her original reason. She had gone to find Carly, to ask for her help to keep Dillon safe. She sighed looking back up at him. “I went there… to meet someone.” She answered evasively.
He stared back at her drawing his own conclusions. “Oh… where is he?” He asked somewhat bitterly.
“What?” She asked.
“Where is Tom? I mean why isn’t he here? If the guy is so great then why the hell isn’t he here with you?” He asked.
She shook her head. “Dillon… don’t.” She remarked weakly.
“Don’t what? Don’t speak the truth! This guy is suppose to be so damn perfect then why isn’t he by your side right now? What kind of guy that claims to care about you doesn’t come to the hospital when his girl has been shot?” He yelled.
“And what kind of guy claims to love his girlfriend and then sleeps with someone else?”
“I thought we were broken up! I told you that.”
“Yeah well maybe you should have fought harder for me instead of trying to tear down the guy that really does care for me!”
“What the hell do you think I’m doing here right now? I’m here fighting for you!”
“You’re here because you feel guilty and sorry for me. Well I don’t need you to take care of me. I don’t need you to be my hero or my ‘leading man’,” she made air quotation marks with her fingers on that last part. “In fact I don’t need you at all! So just get out of my room!”
“It just burns you up inside to know that I’m right about him… about us.”
“Shut up!” She yelled.
“The truth hurts doesn’t it!” He shot back.
“I said to get out!”
He threw up his hands in defeat. “All right… all right… you want me to go…”
“Yes!”
“…then I’ll go.” He finished. As he got to the door he turned back. “But you know this isn’t over, sweetheart.” He remarked.
“The hell it isn’t!” She shot back long after the door was closed. Exhaling deeply she shook her head before changing completely and making a quick exit through the west entrance of the hospital trying desperately not to be seen, not knowing that she was already being followed…
Panic Room…
He remained stationed against the wall thinking back on the first few conversations with Carly on his boat. It hadn’t been perfect but the time had been theirs. And somehow, some way he planned to get those days back again. That was if he ever got the hell out of this place. Just then he heard the door slide out of place as it opened up and like a dream being answered he saw her standing there.
“Carly… I knew that you would find me.” He remarked staring at her like she was the only woman in the world.
She shook her head. “What if I told you that I could get you out of here?” She asked.
“Isn’t that why you’re here?” It was more of a statement then a question.
She nodded. “Perhaps… but we’re going to come to a deal first… starting with your niece.”
Alcazar Penthouse…
Sage lay on the couch caught up in a restless sleep filled with dreams stirred in with flashbacks…
“Just tell me where he is…”
“I don’t know!”
“Liar! You’re lying to me! Don’t lie…” She was cut off as the gun went off and Georgie Jones collapsed at her feet. “I didn’t mean to…” She watched as Carly knelt down checking her pulse and then looked back up at her.
“She’s dead… you shot her… she’s dead! You killed her!”
“NO!!!!” She screamed herself awake. Her voice died on the silent air of the empty penthouse. She inhaled a shaky breath as she looked around. Her eyes clouded with tears and her hands were shaking so badly. “Oh God… what have I done?” She cried softly beginning to rock.
The sound of the doorbell jerked her head up. Rubbing her hands onto her sweatpants she stood. “Who is it?”
There was a moment of silence… “It’s me… open up.”
She distinctly recognized the voice and rushed to the door opening it. “…Georgie.”
“We need to talk.”

Chapter Six: I could break you if I wanted to…
Sage stepped aside to let her pass closing the door behind her. She sighed as she turned to face Georgie who was looking around the expensively decorated penthouse. She swallowed hard listening to the silence that had engulfed the room. “Are you okay?”
“Considering that I was just shot a few hours ago, I’m in remarkable health.” She stated dismisively still walking around the penthouse finally stopping at the fireplace.
“Yeah… did you walk all the way over here? I mean is it okay for you to be out of the hospital so soon after…”
“Probably not… but then again I really didn’t go around asking for the doctor’s permission. In fact I didn’t ask anyone’s permission. I’m just here.”
“Do you want to sit down?”
There was a long pause as Georgie continued to stare into the orange flames that seethed within the fireplace. Reaching up absently she touched her bandaged arm feeling just the slightest tingle of pain and realized that her morphine or Codeine was wearing off. She had to make this quick. Turning around she came face to face with her assailant. “Were you really going to shoot Mrs. Corinthos?”
The brunette stared back at her. “No…”
“But you shot me.”
“It was an accident. You came around the corner and I just reacted.”
“So it’s natural for you to shoot people?” She asked raising an eyebrow.
“No… I just meant… I got scared and I just freaked out! I wasn’t planning on shooting you! I didn’t plan to shoot anyone!” She defended herself. “I just… I was looking for my uncle. I don’t know where he is and I needed to find him.”
“So you run around town with a loaded gun?” She asked.
“I thought that maybe Carly might have heard something. It’s no secret how Uncle Lorenzo feels about her or how Sonny feels about him. In case you forgot he went after him with a loaded gun ready to gun him down. If it hadn't been for the bullet proof vest he was wearing he would have been killed!”
“Yeah sounds greatly dramatic! What exactly did you plan on doing with that gun if you weren’t going to shoot Carly huh? Were you going to take her hostage? Maybe invite her over for a Mobster’s tea party?” She asked sarcastically.
“I wouldn’t expect someone like you to understand this Georgie.”
“Oh please!”
“You and I live in different worlds with different rules!”
“Yeah and thanks to you that world touched me tonight! I got shot and it’s all your fault!” She screamed angrily. “Don’t stand there and tell me that I wouldn’t understand. Because it doesn’t make sense to me, you’re right! And I thank God and everything holy that it doesn’t. I don’t want to understand your world. I don’t want to be anywhere near it but unfortunately for me, I didn’t get a choice in the matter. You fixed that tonight!”
“I didn’t mean to shoot you!”
“I don’t give a damn!” She yelled back. “You did! You did this to me. I am standing here with a bullet in my shoulder that the doctors have yet to remove because they fear of doing permanent damage to me and you stand there with nothing more then your lame excuse of you didn’t mean to do it! Well guess what; that’s not enough!”
Sage took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly running her hands through her hair. When she spoke her voice was leveled and steady. “Okay, look. I’m sorry that you got shot. I didn’t… I didn’t mean to shoot you. That wasn’t my intention. And I really do appreciate you not telling your dad about what happened… but what else can I do?” She asked.
Georgie shook her had. “Don’t… don’t stand there and act like you’re remorseful. Don’t pretend that you give a damn about me.”
“I may not like you but I never wanted to kill you Georgie!” She remarked shaking her head with a soft laugh.
“Don’t laugh at me! And don’t act as if you care! You have never once been nice to me so don’t start now! From the moment you came to this town you have done everything that you can to ruin my life.”
“Now who’s being dramatic?” She muttered.
“No? You came to town and went after my boyfriend! You pursued him with no respect for my feelings our relationship or me! You continuously tried to set me up and make me look bad. You played on my insecurities over and over again and taunted me every chance you got. And when you saw a weak spot you went in for the kill! And ever since then you’ve been a thorn in my side since. Well guess what, Sage; it’s pay back time! Because you owe me!”
Sage stared at the blond with a new look of admiration mixed with fury. “You can’t be serious. Is this where you blackmail me into staying away from Dillon? I mean that is what this is right? You want me to stay away from your little boyfriend?” She asked softly.
Georgie stared back at her. That would be the smart thing to ask for. That would be the predictable thing to ask for. Keep Dillon away from the danger and out of harms way. But she had tried that already. She had made a pact with the devil once before and it blew up in her face. “No… I can’t keep Dillon away from you. I’m not going to try. For whatever reason he feels something for you. Maybe it’s pity; maybe it’s something else. I don’t know. It wouldn’t surprise me though; a lot of people seem to feel pity for you. I do. I mean you have no friends, no family and the only guy that you want only slept with you because he couldn’t be with me. Maybe I should pity you! You’re so sad, Sage that you honestly believe that I would waste my time in asking you to keep Dillon away!” She seethed angrily. “Can you really be that shallow as to believe that this is still about some petty competition between us? How stupid can you be!” She yelled so angry that she thought she would burst.
“Georgie stop this right now!”
She looked up to see Dillon standing in the doorway.
The Panic Room…
Alcazar stared at Carly with a raised brow. “What are you talking about? What does Sage have to do with this?” He asked.
“Do you know that she came to me with a gun? Oh yeah… just waving it around threatening me to tell her where you were or she was going to shoot me.”
“No… Sage wouldn’t…”
“Wouldn’t what? Wouldn’t pull a gun on some woman who’s married to your enemy? The daughter of the man that tried to kill my husband; yeah I think we both know that she would.” She remarked bitterly. “I mean not that I blame her. I wouldn’t blink an eye if someone came after Sonny and took him away from me. In fact I would kill anyone… anyone that tried to hurt my family.” She stated.
“But she didn’t hurt you.” He stated.
“No… she didn’t. She shot Georgie Jones though!”
“Dillon’s girlfriend?” He asked remembering the blond girl. “Is she all right?”
“Who? Your niece or Georgie?” She asked dryly.
“Stop it. Is Georgie okay?”
“Last time I checked she was still breathing. But that doesn’t change the fact that Sage could still be charged with attempted murder. Now you wouldn’t want that would you? I mean if that happens there isn’t much you can do about that. At least not from here anyway.” She remarked.
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Because I don’t want your niece to go to prison. In fact if it wasn’t for me that’s probably where she would be headed.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means that I convinced Georgie to cover for her. Made up some story about being mugged and whatnot and now little Miss Sage is in the clear… for now!”
“Meaning?” He asked.
Reaching into her bag she pulled out the plastic baggy and held it up for him to see. “This look familiar to you?” She questioned.
He stared at the contents in the bag. Sage’s scarf with what had to be blood splattered over the silky material stared back at him.
“Now what do you think would happen if this should land on the commissioner’s desk with his morning coffee? How would Sage explain Georgie’s blood on her scarf?” She asked. “Now you and I are going to come to an agreement right now… or someone is going to jail for a very long time.”

Chapter Seven: Dark Revelations are Still Revelations
Alcazar's penthouse...
There was a very breif moment of silence before all hell broke loose. Dillon stepped further into the penthouse having followed Georgie the entire way thoroughly confused as to why she would show up at Alcazar's penthouse. He had first decided to stay downstairs thinking that perhaps she would realize she had somehow ventured into the wrong building for whatever reason and soon emerge. When he realized that wasn't the case he took the elevator up to his boss's penthouse only catching the last of Georgie's scornful albeit rightfully placed words. Without thinking only of protecting he had burst through the door hell-bent on making his former girlfriend stop her tirade which he believed must be the result of some medicated stupor.
"Georgie what are you doing?!" He questioned.
She stared at him for a moment not sure of what he was asking. Couldn't he see what she was doing? Couldn't he see that she was here trying to do what she could to protect him?
"Why are you following me?"
He shook his head not to be deterred from his original question. "You can't honestly believe that what happened to you tonight is somehow Sage's fault!"
"But it is!" She shouted back without thinking about all the lies she had told.
"How is this her fault? She wasn't on the docks tonight! She couldn't help that there was some guy out there trying to mug you! You were out there meeting this Tom guy and out of some horrible run-in with fate you were shot! How is this her fault?"
"I wouldn't even have been on those docks meeting anyone if Sage had never come to town!" She threw out angrily only slightly believing in that statement. And in some ways it was true. If there had never been a Sage, Georgie never would have had to concot some inane scheme in the first place or lie to Dillon at all. And although she knew that he wasn't aware of these certain details there was still the ultimate fact that Sage was the reason they weren't together. He had to see that. "Ever since she came to town she's been wrecking my life... our life!"
"No one asked you to make a deal with my mother! No one forced you into that situation! And no one made you go down to those docks at night to see Tom! You made those decisions on your own and you need to own up to them just like I have to own up to mine!"
She felt the blood flush her cheeks in anger. "What? When have you ever owned up to your decisions? When?"
"How many times have I told you that I'm sorry that I slept with Sage? How many times have I confessed that it was a mistake that never should have happened?"
"And then you follow it up by defending her! What about her? When does she have to take responsibility for what's she's done? When does she stop being 'poor little Sage' and owning up to the backstabbing slut that did nothing but try and seduce you into bed from the moment she saw you? Tell me that!"
"Stop trying to blame Sage for everything that has gone wrong!" He yelled reaching his own breaking point. "I made the choice to sleep with her! I did that! I gave up on us way too soon and slept with her. I did that. Can you understand that?"
She heard his words and the tone feeling a grief that she had never felt. It was true... in all honesty it was true. He had given up on her... on them. And the honesty that hit her made her sad and angry... no it was beyond anger... And suddenly this feeling cleared her vision so that now she began to see something that hadn't occurred to her... Cutting her eyes to Sage for just a moment she shook her head as a realization dawned on her from somewhere and nowhere all at once.
"You're right..." Her voice was low but firm. "This isn't Sage's fault... she didn't have any loyalty to me or my feelings... the reason why I'm here... in this penthouse... fighting with you with a bullet lodged in my arm... the blame... is on you!"
"Georgie..." He tried to speak but she shook her head.
"No! Not this time." Looking up at him, straight in the eye, he could see the tears that threatened to overflow but steadily held at bay by her own will. "You did this. You caused this and for the first time Dillon, I can honestly say that I hate you for it. I hate you for coming into my life and turning it upside down. I hate what you've done to me; what I've tried to turn myself into for you. I hate it all... I hate you." She remarked with a deafening silence.
Swallowing hard she looked over at Sage who had remained quiet for the entire exchange. "I guess you win." Looking back at Dillon her statement was directed at both. "You can have him!" And with that she walked passed the both of them and out the door slamming it on her way out.
The sound as metal hit metal seemed to break an eerie reverie that had settled over the three as she spoke. Now with her gone time seemed to resume and emotions were once again painfully acknowledged.
Dillon stood there trying to figure out what the hell just happened... What the hell had he done?
On the other side of the door Georgie remained where she was. Her back slumped against the stairwell railing. Her breathing heavy and heart pounding inside her chest. The agony of what had just taken place beginning to overload her senses as she heard her own words echo in her mind... perhaps it was the confrontation or wearing off of her own adrenaline but she felt her legs begin to give out from beneath her and soon she was tumbling... tumbling down steps never feeling her whole weight as her body hit the base of the stairs...

Chapter Eight: The Right Place at the Right Time...
Lorenzo's Penthouse...
There was a silence as he watched her walk out of the penthouse and perhaps even out of his life and the thought struck a chord right to the center of his soul. It was only a few hours earlier when they had been in Kelly's and he had grabbed her and kissed her as though she were still his girl. A few hours ago he honestly believed that there was hope for them; that he would have her back even if he had to steal her away from this 'boyfriend' that she thought the world of. But for some reason all of that just got blown to smithereens in just a few minutes and her last words that she said before slamming out of the penthouse...
"I hate you, Dillon!"
Did she mean it? Could she really hate him? He wanted to say no. He didn't want to believe it. His heart told him that it wasn't possible. You didn't just stop loving someone in an instant. But her eyes told him otherwise. The way she looked right through him, as if he were nothing. As if he had somehow crossed a line tonight that they couldn't come back from...
He couldn't accept that. He wouldn't. Instead he had to focus on something else... anything else. Whirling around on the only other person in the room he stared at her with accusatory eyes. "What the hell did I just walk in on? What did you do tonight?"
Sage stood there, her eyes wide with shock. She swallowed hard trying to think of something, anything to tell him.
'Truth'
For one moment she thought about telling him what happened tonight... really happened. How she went to the docks with her Uncle's gun bent on scaring Carly Corinthos into telling her where her Uncle was... and how Georgie showed up... but then she heard it.
The loud bang from the gun echoed in her ears as if she had just pulled the trigger at that very moment.
She stared at Dillon and knew in that moment that she couldn't tell him. He would never forgive her.... never understand or believe that it was an accident.
"I... I didn't do anything. She came here... she attacked me." She replied defensively.
He shook his head. "No... that's not the way Georgie is. She wouldn't just come and seek you out and attack you. There has to be a reason."
"Yeah... you! You're the reason she was here, Dillon. Didn't you hear her? She came here to blame me for getting shot because she was the docks tonight... instead of being somewhere with you! She is holding onto this grudge for all it's worth... I mean I'm just glad that you showed up when you did..." She stated walking closer to him reaching out and wrapping her arms around his neck and hugging him close as if he had somehow rescued her.
He stood there neither pushing her away nor returning her affection. He knew something wasn't right... he could feel it. And one way or another he would find out what the hell was going on. Sage was lying to him... he knew that and accepted it. That's the way she was. But Georgie.... she was holding back from him as well and somehow both her and Sage were doing it together and that disturbed him...
The Panic Room
She stood there holding all the cards as Lorenzo simply stood there. "Okay... what do you want?"
Carly let a small smile come to her lips. "I want you to leave town. Take your niece and your business and get out of Port Charles and out of my life. I don't want to hear from you or see you again! I don't even care where you go as long as you're gone!" She stated.
Lorenzo chuckled softly. "Just because i'm not in your sight doesn't mean that I'll be out of your heart! You and I Carly share a connection."
"Oh please! You were never in my heart Lorenzo! Maybe in my head for a little while due to a brain injury but that's all!"
"Yeah and who caused that injury? Your loving husband? Don't you see how dangerous he is for you? I would never do anything like that! I love you!"
"Shut-up! I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear you attack my husband, my family or my life... I want you gone Lorenzo or I take this scarf to the Commisioner. Now what's it going to be?"
He shook his head. "You would really send Sage to prison over an accident? I don't believe you." He remarked trying to call her bluff. "You're not that heartless."
"You don't know me, Lorenzo. I would do anything to protect the ones I love... no matter who has to pay for it... Just like Sonny." She remarked not flinching. "So what's it going to be Lorenzo? Do you leave town and never darken the streets of Port Charles again or do I make a trip to the PCPD?"
He remained silent for a moment as if thinking it over. "Fine... you win. I'll leave town tonight."
She nodded as he walked over to her and stood in front of her. "Good... I'll call Jason and..." She began when Lorenzo lunged at her with the gun still pointed at her.
Outside the panic room...
Jason reached into his pocket and pressed the button on the controller to open the wall and as the wall pulled away from its makeshift door he heard the shot go off...
The base of the stairs...
He found her lying face down on the cement. Reaching out he touched her bandaged arm and then gently turned her over. He saw the crimson stain against the gray cement where she had obviously torn her stitches and reopened the wound. Looking around he thought about the fastest way to get her to safety whoever she might be. Thinking quickly he lifted her body into his arms and began the trip to the hospital... having no idea that he was about to get caught up in something he wasn't ready for...
"I don't know who you are but I sure hope you can hang on until I can get you some medical attention." He whispered into her ear heading for the nearest hospital.
