Chapter 9
The hardest part of all of this was explaining to Emma why Dillon was in the hospital and couldn't come home. Her youth and innocence prevented her from grasping the concept that Dillon was really hurt, because she didn't know the difference between being shot and having a boo boo. I had hoped that Dillon would wake up and it wouldn't take that long for him to be released, then I wouldn't have to explain all of this to her, but it had already been a week and I couldn't dodge her questions anymore. I went to Maxie and Kyle's for a couple hours in the morning to see Emma and try to get some sleep, but it seemed impossible, and so I did my best to explain to Emma that Dillon had been shot and that he was still 'sleeping'. She wanted to see him and after deliberating whether it would be a good idea or not, I got her ready and we headed to the hospital. When we got to his room and I opened the door and saw Lorenzo sitting beside Dillon's bed while Bobbie checked his stats, neither talking to each other, but both concenered all the same.
Emma jerked her hand out of mine and ran over to the bed, jumping up on to the chair beside Lorenzo and then onto the bed, not even paying attention to Lorenzo, as if her wasn't even there. Too worried about her daddy to care. She crawled up to Dillon and sat beside him with her legs tucked under her. "Babygirl, you can't be up on the bed. You might accidentily hurt daddy." I said as I walked over and tried to pick her up but she grabbed onto Dillon's arm.
"No." She wimpered as she clutched onto him, like he was her last remaining lifeline in the world.
"Don't do this, babygirl. Please!" I said as tears filled my eyes. I stopped trying to pull her away, fearing that she would get upset. She pulled her legs from underneath of her and laid down beside Dillon, just staring at him.
"Georgie, it's ok. They got the bullet out in sugery. She isn't going to hurt anything, he is pretty much just sleeping." Bobbie said as she patted my arm before leaving. I looked over to where Lorenzo was sitting and he smiled at me, but his smile was empty. His eyes were empty.
"I went to my sisters to try and get some sleep, but I couldn't." For some reason I felt like I had to explain why I wasn't there when he had arrived.
"That's perfectly understandable." He said as he watched Emma as she laid there talking to Dillon, telling him about Maxie and how she was about ready to have the babies, and how she helps Kyle take care of her. She just kept on talking, not paying attention to the fact that Dillon wasn't answering her or responding in any way. "He can hear every word she is saying." Lorenzo said as he smiled down at Emma, his granddaughter.
"Yea, Uncle Tony has been telling me to talk to him. He says it'll be good for us both." I said as I sat down, completely exhausted, but unable to rest. Everytime I would fall asleep I would wake up in a panic thinking that Dillon had come to and I wasn't right by his side.
I expected Lorenzo to visit frequently, but as the time went on, I figured he would stop by less and less. Of course, I was wrong. He came by just as much, if not more. Everytime he came he looked more and more sad and distraught. He looked as though everytime he saw Dillon he would realize more and more how much he had missed as the realization that Dillon was his son sunk further and further into him. At that moment he was slouched in the chair with his head resting on his hand, and looked very tired. He had on one of his signature designer, hand-tailored suits made of material that probably came from Italy or some other country, but he looked unkept. He had went from a five o'clock shadow to a scruffy beard.
Tracy hadn't came back by since she told Lorenzo that he was Dillon's father, but she called three or four times a day. She always had an excuse for why she couldn't stop by but I knew she couldn't face Lorenzo. As much as I wanted to I couldn't really blame her. Lorenzo would never hurt or harm any woman, but he wasn't exactly someone that you wanted to keep secrets from and have mad at you.
Lorenzo stayed for a little while longer, and even talked to Emma once she acknowledged that fact that someone else was in the room, but he left promising to be back in the morning, first thing.
It's now one in the morning and again I can't go to sleep. Kyle had hooked up a VCR and DVD player into the room a couple days ago but I had since watched every movie, paying little attention to anything other than Dillon. Emma still refused to leave the bed and go back to Maxies, and was asleep on the bed next to Dillon. I felt so helpless to Emma. All she wanted was for her daddy to wake up and be better. I was still holding Dillon's hand, afraid to let go, running my fingers through Emma's hair with my other hand and listening to the soft breathing of her and Dillon. They both looked so peaceful and content.
I was snapped out of my thoughts, though, when I felt Dillon's fingers tightening around mine. I jerked my head up and saw him staring down at me. "Dillon, oh my gosh. Hold on, I am going to go get a doctor." I said, but he held onto my hand tightly and shook his head.
"Don't, just stay here. What happened?" He asked, his voice was scratchy and husky from his lack of talking over the past week and his constant sleeping.
"You don't remember?" I asked in shock. Dillon shook his head and tried to sit up but winced in pain and eased himself back onto the bed, noticing Emma and trying not to disturb her. "What do you remember?"
"I remember us fighting and then we were in the gazebo in the park." He said. I carefully untangled Emma's arms with Dillon's, picked her up and laid her onto the pull-out that Bobbie had brought in for me. I went back over to his bed and after much protesting from my end, maneuvered the bed so Dillon could sit up. "So what happened, and why am I in here?" He asked once he was situated, but I could tell he was in a lot of pain. Then again he was going to be whether he sat up or laid down.
"You were shot. We were in the gazebo and someone in the bushes shot you. I didn't see who it was but..."
"Were you hurt?" He asked alarmed as his eyes darted over me trying to look for bandages or anything to indicate that I had been shot or hurt as well.
"Dillon I am fine, you were the one that was shot." I asked amazed that he was worried about me.
"Yea, but you could have been hurt too. You're sure you're fine?" He asked with concern in his voice.
"I'm sure, Dillon you are the one that is hurt, not me."
"Well that would explain why I can't move." He said with a wave of his hand.
"What?" Fear took over my whole body. Was he paralized? "Can you feel this?" I asked as I reached down and squeezed his foot through the blanket.
"Yea, why?" He said as I let out a sigh of relief.
"When you said you couldn't move I thought it was because you were paralized or something. The bullet just missed your right lung and your spine. I thought maybe they missed something." I said relieved.
"No, I just meant that it hurt to much to move. How long have I been out?" He asked looking for a calender or something to tell him the date.
"A week." I said as his eyes widdened.
"Are you kidding me?" He asked in shock.
"No, it's been a week. It seems like it was forever ago, because so much has happened since then." I said
"Like what?" He asked.
"Well, your mom flew in the morning after it happened. She is still in PC too, actually I should call her." I said as I reached for the phone but Dillon stopped me.
"Listen, I don't want you to tell the doctors, or my mom, or anyone that I am awake because as soon as you do, they will huddle around me and right now I just want to be with you. So what else happened?" He said as he squeezed my hands.
"Your mom had some pretty big news concerning you, but it isn't my place to tell you. I'll let her tell you. And then..."
"What do you mean it isn't your place? Georgie, anything that concerns me, concerns you and vise-versa. Tell me what she said. Please, because if it is as big as you say it is, it'll probably be better that you tell me so I don't get angry as all hell. Besides, I know she usually has some pretty big bombshells for everyone, but it can't be anything that big, or she would have told me." He said confidently. It killed me that I was about to tell him something that would forever change his life.
"Are you sure you want me to tell you and not her?"
"Yes!"
"Ok, when she came the day after you were shot, Uncle Tony said that we all needed to get tested to see if any of us matched your blood type or bone marrow, because you had lost a lot of blood. He told your mom that she needed to get ahold of Paul, or have the hospital do it because he could be a match for you because he was your dad." I said as I paused for a second, and he nodded for me to continue. "Anyways, Uncle Tony offered to have the hospital call Paul if Tracy didn't think she could, but she said that calling him wouldn't be necessary." I said as Dillon's eye brows furrowed together in confusion.
"Why wouldn't she want them to call him?" He asked as he tried to sit up further but the pain was too much. "I mean, he's my dad and he could've been the only one that could help me if I needed it and no one else matched. I know my mom can be pretty cold but she wouldn't do that to me."
"That is what I am getting at." I said as I laced my fingers in his and sat on the side of the bed. This was harder than I thought. "Paul isn't your father."
"WHAT?" He shouted, but quickly looked over at Emma to see if she woke up. She was still fast asleep. "That isn't possible."
"Dillon, don't get worked up. You might put your body into shock. See I knew, I shouldn't have been the one to tell you. I'm such an idiot for bringing this up this soon. This was none of my business." I said as I went to get up off the bed but he held onto my hand.
"Wait, wait. I'll try to stay as calm as possible but come on. What do you mean he isn't my father? If he isn't, then who is?"
"Lorenzo ALcazar."
"You're joking right?" He said with a smile on his face like it was a huge joke that everyone was in on.
"Of course I am not joking, are you crazy?"
"How in the hell is Lorenzo Alcazar my father?" He asked confused.
"Lorenzo came by the morning after you were shot because one of his men told him about what happened to you and he came by to give his condolences. Anyways, your mom had just finished telling me that Lorenzo was your father and she told him that he needed to be tested."
"Did he know I was his son this whole time?" He asked angrily, but tried to calm down.
"No, Tracy said that after her and Paul had gotten married she was in South America on business and they pretty much had a one night stand and never saw each other again. She found out she was pregnant shortly after and told everyone you were Paul's son. She said that she did it because if Paul found out she cheated on him it would have given him a good reason to divorce her, plus she hoped that she could use you as leverage to keep him and make sure they stayed married."
"This is....I can't believe this." He said as he ran his hand over his face.
"I know, me either."
"What did Lorenzo say?"
"Yea she told him that he could get a DNA test ran, but that there was no possible doubt. He took the tests and it came back a few days later, positive."
"What did he do?" He asked curiously.
"He has been here about three or four times a day. Infact he just left here about a hour or two ago, but he said he would be back in the morning. I promised him I would call if you woke up." I said as I stood up and brushed the wrinkles out of the dark blue yoga pants I was wearing. They were the only pajama pants I had that I could wear in public without people looking at me like I was crazy. Dillon sat there while I went and got Uncle Tony who was still on duty. Then I called Tracy who said she and the rest of the family would be right over. I also called Lorenzo, but he and I both agreed that it would be best for everyone if he waited to come when the Quartermaines were gone, so I promised to call as soon as they left.
Tracy and Ned got to the hospital first and I gave them their privacy with Dillon and called Maxie and Kyle, feeling terrible for waking Maxie up. Ned said that they would be with Dillon for a while, and if I wanted to go somewhere for a little while he would call me before they left. So I went back to Maxie's with Emma who was still asleep and for the first time in a few weeks, slept like a baby.
Kyle and Maxie offered to watch Emma for me the next day, and when I got to Dillon's room, Lorenzo was in there laughing with Dillon about something. "Ah Ms. Jones, we were just talking about you." Lorenzo said as he stood up and then offered me his chair.
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing, and please, call me Georgie. Ms. Jones sounds like my mother." I said as I leaned over and hugged Dillon as he kissed my cheek softly.
"Well Georgie, it was definatly a good thing. Dillon was just telling me about the Halloween when you two dressed up as Lucy and Ricky. You two, certainly seem to have fun together." Lorenzo said as he casually leaned against the table by the bed.
"What can I say, I'm a big I Love Lucy fan. Don't ask how, but we got Edward to dress up as Fred and Emily was Ethel. It was so funny because Dillon kept sluring his words in a thick spanish accent and he kept saying things like manuer instead of maneuver. My stomach hurt for days after because I was laughing so hard." I said as I remembered the Ball and how much fun it was.
"Lucy, you got some splainin to do." Dillon yelled across the room to me as he walked towards me shaking his finger at me like I did something wrong.
"We won second place to Jason, who was Lurch. It was so funny because it was a complete slap-in-the-face to Scotty Baldwin because he was always calling Jason Lurch for working for Sonny. Everytime someone would say Jason's name he would come out of nowhere and say 'You rang' in a deep, thick voice. Seriously if he wouldn't have won it would have been a crime, it was great!!" I said laughing. Sonny and Carly had gone through some hard times I guess and with Jason getting back with Liz, he realized that the mob wasn't as important to him, so he quit working for Sonny and actually opened up his own motorcycle shop. He really did love working for himself and was a completely different person now.
"I would have loved to see that!" Lorenzo said smiling widely. This was the first time in the last week I had actually seen him look somewhat happy.

Chapter 10
A month had passed since Dillon woke up from his coma, and after staying a week in the hospital for observations he was released and came home. Now, three weeks later things were starting to settle down and everything was returning to normal. Dillon had willingly told Lorenzo that he wouldn't be working for him anymore, in which Lorenzo graciously agreed to, saying he wasn't going to ask him to run anything else for him for Dillon's safety as well as mine and Emma's. The only affects from him getting shot was the small bandage on his back that covered his rapidly healing wound, any other signs were no where to be found.
I woke up around two in the morning with a sickening feeling in my stomach that I couldn't shake so I drove to the store on the corner of the road and 30 minutes later I crawled back into bed to be greeted by Dillon's arms enclosing around my waist. He pulled me up against him and buried his forehead into the back of my neck.
"Where did you go?" He whispered half asleep. His breath warm down my neck making me shiver.
"I ran to the corner store, I wasn't feeling to well, but I feel better now." I said as I turned around in his arms so I was facing him, and wrapped my arms around his neck. I lightly kissed his lips and he laid their with his eyes closed. I traced small circles on the back of his neck with my fingertips and watched as he fell back into a deep sleep. Completely in love with my life, my child and the man in my arms, I too allowed sleep to take over me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ **The next morning**
I woke up later that morning to Emma crawling into the bed between Dillon and I. "Hey babygirl, you're up early." I said as I looked at the clock on the wall that read 7:30. "Wanna lay down with mommy and daddy?" I asked as I pulled the covers back, allowing her room to crawl under the sheets between us.
"Is daddy feeling better?" She asked me as she stared at me with her big beautiful brown eyes.
"He feels better and better every day." I said as I played with the ends of her hair. She had naturally curly hair that spiraled perfectly. I looked up at Dillon and was suprised to see he was awake. He was laying there just staring down at Emma and then up to me. He winked at me and then stretched his arms out and rolled over partially onto Emma, who was squealing with laughter under him.
"Daddy, your squashing me!" She shrieked and she tried unsuccessfully to push him off her.
"Oh, is that you under there? Imagine that." He said and he rolled back over as Emma sat up on her knees.
"Daddy, can we go to the park today?" She asked as she leaned onto Dillon's chest and looked up at him, waiting for his reply.
"I don't know, let me check with my schedule." He said as he held his hand up like he was reading something off of it, causing Emma to giggle at his antics. "I'm free, but only if you give me a kiss." He said as she jumped up and kissed him throwing her tiny arms around his neck.
"When can we go?" She asked excitedly as she jumped up and down on the bed.
"Tell you what, you go make sure your room is clean and pick out something to wear and I'll call Alexis and Lily's parents. Maybe they can come with us, we'll go pick them up." I said as her eyes grew wide with excitment before she jumped off the bed and ran out the door.
"So what else do you want to do today?" Dillon asked as he laced his fingers in mine and kissed the tips of my fingers.
"I don't know, I want to stop by and see how Maxie is doing. She told me yesterday she feels ready to pop. Her due date is next week, but she thinks she is going to go into labor before the end of this week." I said as I swung my leg over so I was sitting on him. I leaned down and rested my head on his chest snuggling closer to him and breathing in his scent: soap and Addidas cologne. Five minutes later Emma ran back in the room and over to the side of the bed where Dillon and I were.
"Can I wear this?" She said as she proudly showed off the outfit she picked out which consisted of a pink shirt with green flowers on it, and a very non-matching pair of red shorts topped off by her favorite pair of blue sneakers.
"Babygirl, how about we go get that pink summer dress with the matching shorts that you like." I said not wanting to hurt her feelings by telling her the outfit didn't match. Unphased, she turned and ran out the room. I layed my head back into Dillon's neck as he rubbed my back.
"God, we are really lucky, you know that?" Dillon said as he rested his hands on my thighs on either side of him and kissed my shoulder.
I simply tightened my arms around him and kissed him with every ounce of love and passion I had in me and then whispered into his ear "Pretty soon, we'll be twice as lucky!"
Chapter 11
"Pretty soon, we'll be twice as lucky!" I whispered into Dillon's ear and then pulled back to see his reaction.
"Are you saying what I think you're saying?" He asked as his eyes softened and he cupped my face in his hands. Tears threatened to fall from my eyes, I nodded not trusting my voice at the moment. "Georgie, oh my god, I love you so much." He whispered, his voice thick with emotion, before he leaned up and captured my lips with his own.
He broke the kiss and pulled me tight against him in a hug that felt like he was trying to pull me into his soul. I finally realized that I was still sitting on top of him, so I sat back up and climbed over him and out of bed. I walked over to my dresser, and Dillon sat on the edge of our bed and stared off in a daze.
"You know, everything is going to be different this time." He said as he walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around me, resting his hand on my stomach, rubbing it soothingly.
"How so?" I asked as I covered his hands with my own and leaned back into him.
"Well for one, we are older. We are also financially secure, we have our own house. We don't have to worry about telling our families, or friends and how they will react to it. Don't get me wrong, I loved every second that you were pregnant with Emma but this time we will be able to focus souly on the baby, you and Emma, nothing else." He said as he gently turned me around. Just then the phone rang, and Emma ran into the room.
"Hello?" Dillon said as Emma came over to me and tugged on my shirt impatiently.
"When are we going to go to the park? Can Alexis and Lily still come with us?" Emma asked.
"Are you sure? Ok, we'll be right there." Dillon said as he hung up the phone.
"Babygirl, I hate to tell you this, but we can't go to the park today. Aunt Maxie is going to have the babies!" Dillon said as he crouched down to Emma's level and took her hands in his. Emma seemed a little disappointed but she was also very happy that the babies were finally coming.
"Was that Kyle?" I asked as I ran to the closet and pulled out a pair of comfortable jeans and a tank top.
"Actually that was Bobbie. She said that Kyle just brought Maxie in and asked her to call us. I guess Maxie isn't handling it too well. The doctors said it might have something to do with her heart." Dillon said quietly as he rushed to get dressed. Over the years, him and Maxie had grown extremely close. On top of my own distress, it pained me to see him so worried, because it really took a lot to worry him. Within 5 minutes I had Emma ready and we rushed to the car, and made it to the hospital 10 minutes later.
"Where's my sister? Is she alright?" I said as I ran off the elevator onto the maternity floor. Dillon kept Emma and parked the car after I jumped out of the car at the entrance.
"Maxie is in room 708B." Bobbie said as she came up to me, "But listen, she is pretty weak right now, and the doctors are just waiting for an operating room to open so they can do a C-section, but don't talk about it. She is already worried about the babies enough. She might go into shock if she keeps stressing." Bobbie said as she held onto my hands. Knowing Bobbie, she had already checked on Maxie ten times. we had always been really close to her.
"Ok thank you." I said as I went to go find Maxie's room.
"Georgie!" Dillon yelled as he got off the elevator with Emma. "How's Maxie?" He asked as they caught up to me.
"Umm...not to great." I whispered, not wanting to worry Emma.
"Ok, well I'll keep Em busy, don't worry about her. Tell Max I said hi and me and Em are waiting to see the babies." Dillon said with a weak smile as he softly kissed my cheek before I took off back down the hallway. When I found her room, I stopped and took a deep breath before slowly opening the door. Kyle had his head resting on his arm on the bed beside Maxie, who looked like she was about to fall asleep. One of his hands was gently rubbing Maxie's swollen belly and Maxie was running her fingers through his hair. The both looked up when I entered the room.
"How are you feeling?" I asked as I walked over to her bed. Kyle got up, hugged me and motioned for me to take his seat.
"Pretty good, considering." Maxie said weakly as she tried to smile. It broke my heart to see her like this.
"Well you look good." I said as I laughed trying to lift the mood.
"Liar!"
"I'll give you two some time alone, is Dillon here?" Kyle asked as he walked back over and kissed Maxie's forehead.
"Yea, he's with Emma out in the waiting room." I said as he nodded and walked out of the room. I turned back to Maxie, "Em can't wait to see those babies."
"The doctors said they're going to bring me into the OR in about 15 minutes." Maxie said as she looked at me desperatly as she grabbed my hands. "Georgie I am so scared."
"Maxie, everything is going to be fine, women have C-sections all the time." I said as teared welled up in my eyes. I felt so helpless.
"This is all my fault..." She went to say but I stopped her.
"Maxie, that is rediculous. This isn't..."
"No, Georgie listen. I knew how my heart was, I knew it and I still took those drugs when we were teenagers. I didn't think about what could happen, or how much it would hurt me. If I wouldn't have done that, than none of this would be going on right now. I would be healthy, allert, screaming at Kyle for doing this to me, but no, all I can do is lay here and wait for whatever is going to happen to happen." She said as she faught to keep her eyes open.
"Listen, you made some bad mistakes when you were younger, but we all do. Everything happens for a reason. I hate that I can't make everything better but this is out of our hands now. We just have to believe that everything will work out." I said as a few tears fell from my eyes.
"Will you just help Kyle while I am in there? The doctors already said that no one is aloud in there. He is blaming himself just like I am blaming myself. Please, just help him out." She said.
"You know I will." I said as Dillon walked in the room. "Where's Emma?"
"She practically jumped Kyle when he came out, and he said he would watch her while I came in here. So, how is my beautiful sister doing?" Dillon said as he came over and kissed Maxie on the cheek. I wipped the tears from my cheeks and smiled up at him.
"We've still got 4 more months till I'm your sister, or did you guys forget that you are not married." Maxie said with a laugh. Dillon was always good at making people laugh when they needed it the most.
"Nahhh, you're my sister in every way but legally. What's a piece of paper gonna prove?" He asked as he sat on the arm of the chair I was sitting in. Just then Bobbie walked in the room.
"The doctors are ready, we need to get you down to the OR." She said as Dillon and I stood up.
"I'll go tell Kyle." I said as Dillon hugged Maxie, then I followed and hugged her too, it took everything in me to let go. I just wanted to hold her and protect her from everything. I wanted so badly to be able to tell her that her and the babies would be fine. But I couldn't
"Thanks, give Emma a kiss for me." Maxie said just before we left the room. Kyle was right down the hallway talking to Monica who was holding Emma. They seen us come out and Kyle ran over to us while Monica motioned that she was going to take Emma somewhere around the corner to give us some time.
"How is she?" He asked as his eyes kept darting back and forth from mine to the door.
"They are getting her ready for the OR. We'll be in the waiting room." I said as he went back into Maxie's room. As soon as I turned back to Dillon I threw myself into his arms and let all of my frustration, pain, fears and uncertainty come out of me in my tears. He held onto me tightly, not saying a word, just letting me cry. After about 5 minutes I pulled back and tried to straighten myself up as best I could before we headed back to the waiting room. Monica was showing Emma how to use a stethescope and Kyle walked back into the waiting room.
"They said it'll take about 30 minutes." He said as he sat down in the chair beside me.
"Are you ready to be a daddy?" I asked as I took his hand in both of mine in an attempt to calm him down.
"Why did I have to get her to do all that crap back then?" He asked outloud.
"Listen, I wouldn't let Maxie blame herself and I am not going to let you do the same thing. This is no ones fault." I said as I squeezed his hand for reassurance. For the next half hour we sat there in relative silence as Emma played with the toys in the corner. At that point I think we all wished we had her innocence. We weren't sure if not knowing how bad things could be was better or not, but it sure seemed to be working for her.
"Mr. Radcliff?" A doctor said as he walked into the waiting room. We all stood up quickly.
"Yes?" Kyle asked as he looked up at the middle-aged doctor.
"Congratulations, you have two beautiful baby boys." The doctor said with a proud smile. Kyle turned around and grabbed me in a tight hug as Dillon patted him on the back. I could feel Kyle stiffen in my arms and knew what he was thinking. I held my breath as he turned back to the doctor and asked him what I myself was too scared to ask.
"Is Maxie alright?"
Chapter 12
"Is Maxie alright?" Kyle asked as the doctor looked between each of us, waiting as we held our breath, scared of what he would tell us.
"Sir, your wife did beautifully. She is asleep right now but is doing just fine. I am sure you understand, though, that we will need to keep her here for observation for a couple days." The doctor said as we all let out a sign of relief.
"Where are the babies? Can we see Maxie?" I asked impatiently.
"The babies are down in the nursery being cleaned up and are getting some clothes and being fed. Of course you can see Mrs. Radcliff, but as I said she is asleep, so be quiet, and try not to wake her up." The doctor said as he shook hands with Kyle and left. As soon as he walked away Kyle stepped back a couple steps and looked like he was going to lose his balance. Dillon and I quickly grabbed his arms as he lowered himself into a chair.
"I'm a dad." Kyle kept whispering over and over again.
"Yep, and you will be till the day you die, buddy, so get ready for the early mornings and late night feedings. Times two." Dillon said as Kyle laughed. He stood back up, more steedily this time, and we all walked down the hallway, with Emma leading the way.
"You go check on Maxie, and we will go see the babies." I said as I hugged Kyle just before he walked into the darkened room where Maxie was asleep.
"Are we going to see the babies now?" Emma asked excitedly
"We sure are, babygirl." Dillon said as she started jumping up and down, clapping her hands together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A month later
"Who wants some wine?" Dillon yelled over everyone as he came into the livingroom from the kitchen.
"Keep that stuff away from me, and if you know what's best you won't give any to AJ." Skye yelled back over the crowd as everyone laughed and AJ's face turned a deep crimson color.
"I'll take a glass." Mac said as Dillon poured the deep red liquid into his glass.
"I'll take some too, but just set my cup over there. I'll get it later!" Emily said as she sat down beside me on the floor where I showing Emma how to hold BJ. Brayden Joshua, BJ for short, and Lucas Blake, but we all called him Blake, were just a little over a month old. Today was the day that Dillon and I were going to tell everyone about the newest baby that would be arriving in about six and a half months. Some how we managed to get all of Dillon's family and mine, with a few close friends, into one room and there had yet to be any arguments.
When Emma grew tired of holding the sleepy baby Emily had taken over and rocked BJ slowly. Dillon sat down beside me just as Blake started to get fussy.
"Blake, my man, whats wrong? You tired of being around all these girls?" Dillon said as he gently picked Blake up and cradled him to his chest. "Max, you got a bottle on hand?"
"That would be my department." Kyle said as he came up to us and handed Dillon the bottle that he had just warmed up "Here ya go." Dillon leaned back agaisnt the coffee table that was behind us and started feeding Blake. Everytime I saw Dillon with Blake or BJ it reminded me of how Dillon was with Emma when she was a baby. At first with Emma, we were unsure of what to do everytime she cried, but eventually we realized that sometimes she just cried to be heard. It was part of her way of learning how to use and get used to her own voice. Now with Blake and BJ, we were more relaxed.
"So what's this big news you got us all here for?" Maxie asked as Emily handed BJ, who was asleep, to her.
"You'll know when everyone else does!" I said as I ran my fingers gently over Blake's head, ruffling his soft blond hair.
"Gosh, doesn't being the older sister entitle me to anything anymore?" Maxie asked trying to look hurt.
"Bragging rights." Dillon said as Maxie stuck her tongue out at him. Blake finished eating, and I reached over and picked him up, throwing the little blanket over my shoulder and started to burp him. "Hey!" Dillon said as stuck out his bottom lip.
"Hey yourself, it's my turn. I haven't got to see them all day." I said as I gently rubbed Blakes back in small circles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Later that night at dinner
Everyone was seated at the huge dinning table that we used on special occasions. Everyone was sitting respectively with Dillon sitting at one end of the table and Lila at the other end. Emma and I were on either side of Dillon as everyone else ate and talked about all the various events going on in their own lives.
"So what's the news?" Skye asked as everyone got quiet and turned their attention to Dillon and I.
"Would you all just chill, you'll know soon enough." Dillon said as everyone looked around at each other disappointed.
"You're not postponing the wedding again are you? It's already costing me a fortune." Mac said with a sly smile.
"Dad, you're only paying for your tux!" I said as his face turned red.
"Well, you know...it's a nice tux." He said as he ducked his head down as mom threw her napkin at him.
"You are so cheap." She said as she laughed and kissed his cheek.
"No, we are not postponing the wedding again. Are you kidding me, I'm not waiting any longer." Dillon said as everyone laughed. The subject seemed to be dropped as everyone went back to their previous conversations.
"I'll be right back." Dillon whispered into my ear as he kissed my lips lightly and walked into the kitchen, not one person noticing his exit. A few minutes later as everyone started to settle down and the room became fairly quiet, something could be heard coming from the kitchen. It was a song of some sort and it was low at first and it grew louder and louder until I recognized Dillon's voice.
We're Having a Baby
My baby and me
You'll read it in fortune
That we're adding a limb to our family tree
Just then, Dillon walked back out and came over to my chair extending his hand to me. I placed my hand in his and stood from my chair, singing along with him.
Thanks to you I'm a mother
Thanks to you I'm a dad
Life just couldn't be brighter
It's the nicest gift we've ever had
I looked around to see everyone's reactions but they all just stared at us confused.
Someday she'll be president
It may be a he
We're having a baby, my baby and me
We're having a baby, my baby and me
As soon as we finished the confused expression's on everyone's face slowly turned to looks of understanding
"Are you serious?" Mom asked as tears welled up in her eyes.
"Look under your plates." I said hugging Dillon closer to me as everyone carefully lifted their plates up and saw an envelope with their names writen on it. Of course, everyone disreguarded where we mentioned they should sit so they all sat there passing cards around until they got their own. As everyone opened their envelopes they pulled out the picture inside. "That is from the ultrasound I had a week ago!" Everyone just sat there stunned as they let it all sink in. They looked back down at the black and white photo that said "Baby's First Picture" at the top with a circle around the baby indicating it location. My mom was the first to do anything, when she jumped out of her chair and ran up to me throwing her arms around Dillon and I.
"You and Maxie have to quit doing this to me. Tell me, don't suprise me!" She cried as everyone laughed and stood up as congratulations were being said from every which direction. After lots of hugging and tears we all went out to the back yard and listened to some music while Emma and Kristina played in the pool. Dillon and I walked around enjoying the peacefulness of the night. We stopped in a clearing under the weeping willow that sat in the back of our yard, hearing the soft ballad that was playing over the radio, and started dancing slowly.
"Can you imagine how different our lives would be if you hadn't grabbed me that day at Kelly's?" Dillon whispered as he pulled me against him.
"I don't want to think about that. All I want to think about is being with you right now, our beautiful daughter and the baby that is growing inside of me." I said as I raised up and lightly kissed him before resting my head back on his chest. We danced like this for a few more minutes before Mac walked up to us.
"Mind if I cut in?" He asked.
"Sure, but I've never danced with another guy before, who's gonna lead?" Dillon asked as he turned to Mac and tried to keep a straight face.
"I really wonder about you sometimes, you know that?" Mac said with a laugh as Dillon kissed my cheek before walking back towards the house.
"So, what, this makes number four, huh Grandpa?" I teased as I looked up at the only man I would ever call my dad. "You know, if Frisco came back tomorrow, it wouldn't change a thing between you and me. You will always be my dad, I just want you to know that." I said as tears blurred my vision and I wrapped my arms around his neck in a tight hug.
"Georgie, I love you and your sister so much, you know that. I know I am not your dad biologically, but I am in here." He said as he put his hand over his heart.
"You are my dad, in every way but bilogical. And let me tell you what, DNA doesn't mean much when your not around." I said as I pulled out of our hug and looked at him. He smiled back at me and wipped the tears from my eyes.
"I am so proud of you. You and Dillon both!"
Chapter 13
"How can you be so calm?" Maxie asked as she helped me button up the back of my dress carefully.
"There just isn't anything to be nervous about." I said matter-of-factly.
"Georgie, hello your getting married today. Tell me honestly that you haven't been nervous about this day. I mean, it's been 4 years coming."
"Sorry, Maxie. I've been waiting for this day for what seems like forever but I am not nervous about it." I said as I looked in the mirror at my myself. I was wearing a very simple maternity wedding dress with spaghetti straps and a small train. I was now almost five months pregnant and showing quite a bit. I smoothed the white material over my swollen belly as I could feel the baby moving. "Settle down little one." I whispered softly. Maxie stood in front of me and fixed my hair so that it would lay on my chest. I had decided on pulling half my hair back in a loose clip and giving it a spiral curl. My hair was long, even with the curls, and fell down to about an inch below my waist line The shorter layers that usually tapered to my face, now hung freely.
Mom walked in with Emma close behind her. "Oh my, you look so gorgeous!" Mom said as she took in my reflection in the mirror. I slowly turned around as Emma came running over to me.
"Hey, babygirl. You being good for grandma?" I asked as I did the best I could to crouch down to her level. That was becoming harder and harder with my ever expanding belly.
"Yep!!" She said as she lightly played with a strand of my hair.
"Ok, just make sure you're good for grandma and grandpa during the wedding, because you know what happens after the wedding?" I asked as she stopped playing with my hair and looked up at me.
"A party?" She asked excitedly as her eyes grew large.
"Yep, we're gonna dance and eat as much as we can, and then dance some more and have lots of fun." I said as she started jumping up and down clapping her hands. She soon calmed down and walked over to Maxie who was feeding one of the babies while the other slept peacefully. Mom walked over and hugged me, then pulled back and looked me up and down again.
"You look so...what's the word...peaceful." Mom said as she cupped my face in her hands.
"I feel peaceful. I haven't had a single second thought about marrying Dillon. I know I am making the right choice." I said as a tear fell from her eye. "Don't cry mom, you got to save those tears for later." I said as she laughed and went to fix her makeup in the mirror.
"Everyone ready?" Mac asked as he lightly knocked on the door and stuck his head in room.
"I've been ready!" I whispered lightly to myself as I checked my reflection one more time. My makeup was light and natural, my hair hadn't lost it's curl and I was ready.
"Come on babygirl." I said to Emma as I held out my hand to her. She took it and we all left the room.
We stood in position. Emma in front, followed by Emily, and Maxie. Although this was what some would consider a big wedding, it was very intimate and very family oriented. Over the years, the Quartermaines had settled down somewhat, and maybe it was because of Emma, but our families had learned to tolerate each other, in a way forming a love/hate relationship.
Early one when planning the wedding, Dillon and I had decided to make it as family oriented as possible. I had also decided that I wanted both Mac and Ned to walk me down the isle. Ned had been one of our only allies early on and he had always treated us like we weren't a couple of love-sick kids. It meant a lot to me when Ned was thrilled to walk me down the isle with Mac. It was to symbolize both families accepting and welcoming what would forever tie them together. Mac had even liked the idea. I had been a little afraid that he would be upset, but he was very open to it.
I watched as the doors were pulled open and I linked my arms with Mac and Ned. Emma slowly walked down the isle and even though Dillon was pretty far away, I could see him watching her, smiling the whole time. She walked over to him and he knelt down, took her in his arms and kissed her cheek. He stood back up as she walked over and sat down beside my mom, and then he locked his gaze with mine. My breath caught in my throat as he stared at me.
I took a deep breath and smoothed my dress over my belly, a nervous habit I supposed, before I slide my arm back into Ned's. As Maxie started walking behind Emily I looked over to Ned and Mac, then back to Dillon as the music changed, signaling our cue, and everyone stood up. As we walked, I broke my gaze from Dillon's a few times to see all the family and friends that were looking back at me with tears in their eyes. Once we got to the last few rows we stopped as Dillon walked towards us. I turned to Ned and kissed his cheek lightly before he walked up to take his place as Dillon's best man. I turned back around to Mac and wrapped my arms around his neck as tears fell silently down my cheek, and he rubbed my back softly.
Dillon took Ned's place and the three of us walked the rest of the way down the isle till we reached where our familes were. Mac went and sat with mom and Emma. I went over to where the Quartermaines were standing and hugged each of them, as Dillon hugged my mom and then shook Mac's hand before Mac pulled him into a hug as well. "Take care of my girls." He said as Dillon laughed lightly and looked over to me and then down to Emma who was too busy playing with the bow on her dress to see him standing there.
"I will sir!" Dillon said as he walked over to Lucas and shook his hand and hugged Bobbie.
Edward had suprised me by pulling me to him in a warm hug. Lila was beside Edward and she motioned for me so she could tell me something, so I got down on my knees, not caring if I got my dress dirty. At that point, I would have rolled in mud if she had asked me to.
"I've always known that you were my grandson's soul mate." She said as she placed her hand onto mine that was resting on the arm of her chair.
"Lila, that means so much to me." I said as another tear fell from my eye.
"Oh dear, don't be silly, call me grandmother." She said as she patted my hand. A lump rose in my throat.
"Thank you grandmother!" I said as Dillon helped me back up and I kissed her cheek. Tracey was last in line and we walked over to her, and I have to admit. I was pretty nervous right now.
"We may not have had a very good start with each other, but you make my son happy. There isn't anyone else who I would rather call my daughter-in-law, than you." Tracey said as she smiled and everyone stared at her speechless. She looked around at everyone: "What? Oh, pick your jaws up off the floor. You act like I've never been nice to anyone before."
"Well?" Everyone said at once as she rolled her eyes. I linked my arm with Dillon's as we walked up to the minister who smiled at us.
"Dearly Beloved, we are gatherd her today in the presence of God to..."
The first time I looked in your eyes I knew I would do anything for you The first time you touched my face I felt What I never felt with anyone else
"From the moment I first saw you, actually you kissed me before I could really get a good look at you. But as soon as I looked into your eyes, I knew that I wanted to be able to look into your eyes for the rest of my life." Dillon said as he smiled down at me and laughed. "You just wanted to be friends, and I wanted more, but I was willing to be your friend just to be near you."
I want to give back what you've given to me And I want to witness all of your dreams Now that you've shown me who I really am I wanna be more than just your man
"I know it sounds cliche but you were like a drug for me. From day one I couldn't get enough of you, I couldn't kiss you enough, I couldn't touch you enough. It also seemed like from the beginning everyone was against us, working together to tear us apart. I couldn't let them take you from me." He said as a few tears cascaded down his cheek. I brushed my finger lightly down it's path before Dillon grabbed my hand and kissed the inside and then placed it on his chest. "My heart is beating for you. I am here because of you, Emma and the baby. Everytime you look at me, or touch me, and especially when you kiss me, I feel an electric surge rage threw me. I don't ever want to lose that feeling. I promise I will love you forever.
I wanna be the wind that fills your sail Be the the hand that lifts your veil Be the moon that moves your tide The sun coming up in your eyes Be the wheel that never rusts Be the spark that lights you up All that you've been dreaming of and more, so much more I wanna be your everything
"April 17th changed my life forever. What started out as a way to get back at my sister turned into a life-altering decision. I was too busy fighting for something that I thought I wanted when all I ever wanted and needed was right in front of me. And you actually wanted me back. I had never experienced that before."
When you wake up I'll be the first thing you see And when it gets dark you can reach out to me I'll cherish your words, I'll finish your thoughts I'll be your compass baby when you get lost
"You have given me so much. You have given me love, security, passion, you've made me whole. You gave me the greatest gift of all: our daughter and this little one." I said as I placed his hand on my stomach and covered it with mine. "Thank you for our children, thank you for your love, and thank you for being you."
Be the wind that fills your sail Be the the hand that lifts your veil Be the moon that moves your tide The sun coming up in your eyes Be the wheel that never rusts Be the spark that lights you up All that you've been dreaming of and more, so much more I wanna be your everything
"I, Dillon Albert Quartermaine, take thee Georgianna Jones to my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us depart, as long as we both shall live.
I'll be the wheel that never rusts Be the spark that lights you up All that you've been dreaming of and more, so much more I wanna be your everything
I, Georgianna Jones, take thee Dillon Albert Quartermaine to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us depart, as long as we both shall live.
I wanna be your everything I wanna be your everything I'll be your everything
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride." The minister said as Dillon held my head in his hands and just before kissing me he whispered "You won't regret this." as I laughed lightly.
"I better not." I whispered back against his lips and wrapped my arms around his neck deepening the kiss as everyone clapped and cheered. We pulled apart and looked back to the minister who motioned for us to turn to everyone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great pleasure that I give you, Mr. and Mrs. Dillon Quartermaine!" The minister said as Emma ran up to us and Dillon picked her up, and laced his fingers with mine as we took our first steps as husband and wife.
Chapter 14
"Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with great pleasure that I give you Mr. and Mrs. Quartermaine!" The DJ announced as we walked into the ballroom of the Grille and everyone errupted with clapping and shouts of cheer.
"I still don't know why you wanted a DJ, I could have gotten a full orchestra if you had wanted one." Dillon whispered into my ear as he wrapped his arm around my waist and we walked over to the table where we were to sit.
"Orchestra's are not my style and that would cost a small fortune. Plus I really dont think everyone here would appreciate an orchestra like you would." I said as I leaned forward and lightly kissed his lips.
"Georgie, stop worrying about how much everything costs. If there is one good thing that comes from being a Quartermaine, it is never having to worry about how much everything is."
"Yes, I know! I have had this lecture a hundred times by your aunt, Emily, your mom and even Edward. But seriously, this wedding already cost more than most third-world countries and that was with me holding back. Believe me, if we would have went with everything that everyone wanted we wouldn't be able to find a place big enough to hold it all." I said as Emma ran up to us and climbed up onto Dillon's lap. Maxie came up soon after balancing Brayden and Blake on her hips.
"I see you opted to change!" Maxie said as she pointed at me. I looked down to my white jump suite that I had changed into as soon as I found the nearest bathroom.
"That dress was gorgeous, but if I plan on enjoying myself tonight I knew I had to change into something more comfortable." I said as Dillon laughed. He hadn't changed but he did take off his jacket and was now wearing his white dress shirt and blake slacks. His tie, long since removed. "It's all about comfort tonight."
"Daddy, when are we going to eat the cake?" Emma asked impatiently as she stuck out her lower lip and gave Dillon her best 'feel sorry for me' stare.
"In a little bit, first we are going to dance and have some fun, then we get to eat the cake ok?" He asked as she looked disappointed. "Hold on." He said as he stood up and sat her down in his chair and then walked back into the kitchen. I took Brayden from Maxie and rocked him in my lap while we waited to see what Dillon was up to. Five minutes later he came back out holding a plate with a small shortcake covered with icing. "Here you go babygirl, it's the best I could do. Cook almost chopped my hand off, but I got it." He said as she jumped up and down before grabbing the plate and running off to where Kristina was and they both sat and devoured the small dessert.
"You caved!" I said as Maxie and I laughed.
"What are you talking about?" He asked innocently.
"If she told you to jump off a building, you'd ask which side. Are you going to give all the little children here there own little cake when they see that she got her own?" I asked as I bounced a giggling Brayden in my lap.
"Have you ever heard of just saying no?" Maxie asked jokingly as she sat down in the chair beside me.
"Well, you know she was giving me that look and..." Dillon started but I silenced him with a quick kiss.
"Are you kidding Maxie, he could never say no to his little girl." I said as he realized he was out-numbered. Brayden who was starting to get fussy, leaned towards Dillon with open arms. Dillon picked him up and set him down on his lap.
"I guess it is just us men against the women, huh. Early life less my man, they are always right. Don't dispute it. Oh and by the way, the back of the bottom layer of the cake is missing a big chunk of icing" He said as I lightly smacked him on the arm.
"Attention everyone. If we could have the bride and groom out here on the dance floor, please. It is time for the couples first dance as husband and wife." The DJ said as everyone started clapping again, a few whistles could be heard. Kyle came over and took Brayden from Dillon who helped me stand up. At this point I wasn't too big but I was showing quite a bit and I needed help occasionally. I laced my fingers with Dillon's as we walked onto the dance floor. Once there, Dillon walked up to the DJ, who handed him the mic.
"First off, Georgie and I would just like to thank all of you for showing up and being apart of this, and sharing this long-awaited and wonderful occasion with us. Most of you, at one point or another, thought that this was just something that would pass, but I also think that you same people have since realized that this is the real deal. Now I have a little something up my sleeves. I have enlisted the help of my brother for this one." Dillon said as Ned stood up and walked over to me, kissing my forehead quickly as he walked over to Dillon. "We all know his past experiences with the music business, but tonight he is leaving the alter-ego at home, along with the leather pants." Dillon said as everyone burst out in laughter. He went to continue but Ned grabbed the mic away from him.
"You're lucky that this is your wedding. Too many people would notice if you went missing because I took you out back and beat you!" Ned said as he wrapped one arm around Dillon's neck so he couldn't move. I was still standing alone in the middle of the dance floor but I couldn't help but laugh at the way they messed around with each other. "Go dance with Georgie before she comes to her senses." He said as he gently pushed Dillon in my direction.
Dillon crossed the floor in a few short steps and pulled me to him as his hands gently held onto my back. I rested my head on his shoulder as Ned began. "Georgie, you have no idea what you have gotten yourself into. But I am honored to be able to finally call you my little sister. If he ever gets on your nerves and you need someone to get him back in line, you know where to find me."
"Thanks, I'll remember that." I yelled back so he would hear me over everyone laughing.
"Ok, but you have done a damn good job so far, so I don't think you'll have a problem. Anyways, I am sure you'll recognize this next song. I was told this hold special meaning for you two." Ned said as I looked up at Dillon who couldn't stop smiling as the melody came over the speakers.
The first time I looked in your eyes I knew I would do anything for you The first time you touched my face I felt What I never felt with anyone else
Tears immediatly blurred my vision as Ned sang the opening to the song that had slowly become ours. "You remembered!"
"Of course I did. How could I forget?" He asked as we started to slowly sway to the music. I hugged Dillon as close as my belly would allow as we danced silently, listening to the lyrics and how much they really mirrored our feelings for each other.
I want to give back what you've given to me And I want to witness all of your dreams Now that you've shown me who I really am I wanna be more than just your man
"I love you." Dillon whispered as he pulled back and looked into my eyes.
"I love you too." I said as I leaned up on my tip-toes and captured his lips in a soft but powerful kiss that made my knees weak causing me to lean into him.
I wanna be the wind that fills your sail Be the the hand that lifts your veil Be the moon that moves your tide The sun coming up in your eyes Be the wheel that never rusts Be the spark that lights you up All that you've been dreaming of and more, so much more I wanna be your everything
When you wake up I'll be the first thing you see And when it gets dark you can reach out to me I'll cherish your words, I'll finish your thoughts I'll be your compass baby when you get lost
"Mind if I cut in?" Mac asked as him and Tracey walked up to us.
"Not at all." Dillon said as he kissed my cheek before turning to Tracey. Mac held me at arms length before pulling me to him and hugging me.
"I know I never said this enough, but I am really proud of you. You and Dillon." Mac said as I hugged him tighter.
"Thank you. That really means a lot to me. Dillon has always wanted you to like him and except him." I said as the baby kicked. I smiled and rubbed my belly.
Be the wind that fills your sail Be the the hand that lifts your veil Be the moon that moves your tide The sun coming up in your eyes Be the wheel that never rusts Be the spark that lights you up All that you've been dreaming of and more, so much more I wanna be your everything
Dillon's POV "You know, I still can't believe you did this..." Tracey started as I cut her off.
"Mom, I thought you were over that. Listen, whatever you feel about this, fine, but don't..." I went on as she silenced me with a stern look.
"If you would have let me finish I was about to say that I can't believe you got married here when you could have gotten married at any beautiful location you wanted in Europe." She said as I laughed. "What?"
"Just when I think I have you figured out, my whole theory gets blown out of the water."
I'll be the wheel that never rusts Be the spark that lights you up All that you've been dreaming of and more, so much more I wanna be your everything
We were making our way towards Mac and Georgie, where I would cut back in when I noticed people running around along the sides of the room. Nobody else seemed to notice, as they were all watching us dance or quietly talking. I looked around and men dressed in all black were standing about five feet apart around the room as everyone started to pick up on this as they started to talk louder trying to figure out what was going on. Just then I noticed someone walk throught the crowd. Faith Rosco walked in, wearing all red as all the guest stood up to try to leave as I made my way to Georgie.
"Umm, hello!! Nobody move!" Faith yelled over everyone as the room became quiet. I slowly backed up until I was infront of Georgie as she gripped onto my shirt and burried her forehead into my back. "The next person that moves or says anything will find themselves on the floor in a pool of their own blood. Do I make myself clear?" She said as everyone remained quiet.
"Faith, what are you doing?" I asked as I looked around at all her guards that were in the room. There had to be atleast thirty men, all with guns, all ready to shoot and kill.
"Do I really need a reason? Can't I just hold up a room full of all of the most important people in the city because I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night?" She asked as she looked around as if waiting for a response. "Actually, I do have a reason." She said as she leveled the gun even with my chest.
"DADDY!!" Emma yelled as she broke out of Felicia's grip and ran across the floor towards us. Georgie ran and picked Emma up as Faith pointed the gun to Georgie as she tried to calm Emma down who was now hysterically crying. She hugged her close as she stared coldly at Faith, who seemed unphased. I jumped back infront of Faith as she pointed the gun back at me.
"Why are you doing this? Let them go!" I said lowly trying not to raise my voice and upset Emma any further.
"Or what? You are in no position to make demands."
"You can't do this to these kids. Atleast let them and their parents go. I'll stay, you obviously have something with me that you want to settle." I pleaded as Georgie continued to try and sooth Emma.
"I guess it would look really bad if the little brats got hurt. Fine, the brats and their mothers can go, but your little wife here has to stay." She said as she motioned to Georgie with the gun.
"No, Faith she needs to go with Emma. And she is pregnant, don't do this."
"If you do what I say then she will be fine and there will be nothing to worry about." Faith said as she looked around the room to all the stunned faces. "You heard what I said, if you are going to go, go NOW!" She yelled as the women grabbed their children and ran for the exit.
"What about Emma?" I asked harshly, I was slowly losing my patience with her. Faith thought for a minute and then looked around the room.
"You." She said as she pointed to Felicia. "You take her."
"Nooo, daddy!" Emma shrieked as Felicia took Emma from Georgie who was sobbing and clutching Emma to her. She reluctantly let go as I turned towards them.
"Just go with grandma, ok! Daddy and mommy will be fine. We'll see you in a little bit, be good babygirl." I said as tears fell down my cheeks and I kissed the top of her head as she struggled to wrap her arms around my neck. I gently took her arms from around me as Felicia backed up and then ran out the door.
"Now, tell me what this is all about. I swear, I will kill you, even if it means I'll die to." I said, if it wasn't for Georgie still being in the room I would have already lundged at her.
"Actually this has more to do with your mother." Faith said as she turned her gaze and the gun to Tracey.
"What?" I yelled.
"Why don't you ask your mom. Ask her about her relationship with my late husband, and what exactly she did to kill him."
Chapter 15 {Dillon's POV}
"What the hell do you mean ask my mom? You come into my wedding reception, threaten to hurt everyone I care about and when I ask why, all you can say is 'ask your mom'?" Dillon said as his voice raised steadily with increasing anger.
"Umm yea, you probably don't know this, but your mom is the reason my husband is dead. All this time I have been under the impression that Jason killed him, when in fact it was your dear mother who set it up to look like that." Faith said as she walked over towards my mom as two of her guards stood closer to me so I couldn't move. I reached my hand behind my back and grabbed onto Georgie's which was shaking. She seemed to ease a little, which helped calm me down.
"So you're the woman that Tony was always complaining about?" Mom said with a smirk.
"I'd watch what you say, seeing as I am the one with the gun and all the guards. And his name is Anthony, he hated being called Tony" Faith said in a sing-song voice as she stood right in front of my mom.
"Not when I called him that. And honey, you don't have the gumption to shoot me. From what I hear your ways of killing people can be found in that little ring of yours." Tracey said as she smiled sweetly to Faith. It didn't matter if she had twenty guns pointed at her, ready to fire at any given moment, she would still run her mouth.
"How exactly did she kill your husband?" I asked, now more confused than ever
"She met Anthony in Vegas at a casino when he was there on business and they carried on an affair for about 2 years. I didn't learn of it until just recently." Faith said, her menacing gaze never leaving my moms icy stare.
"It was 3 years." Mom said as she stepped closer to Faith.
"Anyways..." Faith says loudly in an attempt to drown out my mother. "The whole time they are having this affair, your darling mother is trying to get every last penny from Anthony. She tries all kinds of excuses on him but he never gives in. So what does she do? She hires a hit on him and then they set it up to look like Jason did it because at the time, Sonny and Anthony were fighting for the same territory. So naturally that is where the blame would land."
"Tony was one hell of a guy, but I never ordered a hit on him, and I had nothing to do with his death. Do you always lay blame when something in your life doesn't go your way?"
"Are we talking about me or you?"
"That's enough! Whatever problems you two have, get over it. Let the rest of us go." I said as Georgie leaned into my back and I could feel her whole body shaking.
"Why? What the hell would that prove?" Faith asked as she walked back over to me.
"Listen, Georgie is just over 5 months along. She is shaking and all of this isn't good for her or the baby. She could go into premature labor and the baby might not survive. Do you really want to do that? Me and my mom will stay, whatever just let Georgie and everyone else go. They have nothing to do with this and they shouldn't be put through this because of something my mom did or didn't do." I said as Georgie tensed up.
"Fine, you are so lucky I like you. Everyone else can go, but you two have to stay. I can't believe I am doing this." Faith said loudly as everyone in the room quickly ran out. Only Mac, Georgie and Lorenzo remained inside.
"Georgie, I want you to get to the doctors and get checked out. Mac can you take her?" I asked as I turned around and hugged her and kissed her quickly before I looked at Mac.
"Of course." Mac said, his voice shaking.
"Dillon I'm not leaving you, I can't." Georgie said as she buried her head in shirt, her tears soaking though to my chest.
"You have to go, I'll be fine. Go to the doctor please, and give Emma a hug for me and tell her I am just helping someone or something like that, I don't know. Just tell her I'll be out soon and that we will go where ever she wants. Please go." I said as I took her arms from around me and gently moved her towards Mac who held onto her.
"No, no I can't." She cried as she struggled against Mac's grip.
"Georgie, Dillon will be fine. I am staying, you know I won't let anything happen to him. Go get checked out and go see Emma." Lorenzo said in a soft voice as Georgie seemed to stop fighting and she looked like she was going to collapse. It killed me to see her like this. She nodded and I kissed her one more time as tears ran feverishly down my cheeks. Mac walked slowly beside Georgie as the left the building, all the emotions that were bottled in my let out in a shudder as I leaned forward with my hands on my knees trying to control myself and catch my breath.
"You've crossed the line, Faith. I really do hope you realize that." I said as I stood back up, my eyes locking with hers.
Chapter 16
"Where is he, Mac?" I asked as I sat up on the hospital bed. Dr. Meadows had run various tests on me and was now getting the results.
"Honey, calm down. You can't work yourself up like this." Mac said as he came over to me and gently pushed me back so I was laying down.
"How can you say that? After all that has happened today, on MY wedding day, you expect me to be calm?" I yelled and then quickly stopped realizing that yelling was the worse thing to do. I didn't want Emma to hear me yelling, she was already upset enough. "I'm sorry, I know this isn't your fault, or anyone else's. I just don't know what else to do. I feel helpless and I hate having to just sit back and wait." I said as I laid back on the bed and cover my face with my hands.
"I know that you are scared, but if you don't calm down something could happen to the baby. Dillon asked me to bring you here and make sure you are alright, and that is what I am doing. No one wants anything to happen to him and I am sure he is fine. If you promise to calm down and not work yourself up I will go make a few calls and see what is going on. But I am not leaving until you promise not to work yourself up." Mac said as he placed his hand on top of my belly and ran his thumb back and forth in a soothing motion.
"Ok, I promise." I said as he kissed my forehead and then walked to the door. As he opened it, mom walked in carrying Emma who was fighting off sleep. "How is she?" I asked as she brought Emma over to me and laid her in the bed with me once I scooted over to give her plenty of room.
"She keeps asking for Dillon." Mom said as I cradled Emma against my side as she quietly whimpered and within a few minutes had cried herself to sleep.
"God, I would give everything for him to be here when she wakes up." I said as tears filled my eyes and threatened to fall as I kissed her temple and moved her hair out of her face. “Did I ever tell you about the time when..."
"We're back! And we brought some friends." I yelled as Emma ran threw the front door closely followed by her two best friends Alexis and Lily. The three had met at the park during the summer and had quickly become close. Dillon and I would bring Emma to the park so they could play or Emma would go to their house, or Emma and I would go pick them up so they could have sleep over at the house.
"Not you two again." Dillon said as he came into the livingroom from the kitchen and picked up Lily and Alexis in each arm and held them as they fought to get out of his grasps, giggling the whole time. "You must really like me, if you keep coming back to play." Dillon said as they laughed even harder and he walked over to the couch, gently tossing them onto either side.
"Daddy, they're not here to play with you, silly! They're here to play with me." Emma said as Dillon stood, deep in thought for a minute, and then slowly started walking towards her. When she saw him getting closer and closer she shrieked and took off running. He chased her around the livingroom, letting her stay a few steps ahead of him before he finally scooped her up and threw her over his shoulder. I stood back by the kitchen door and laughed as I watched him playing with them. Emma tried her best to break free but it was no use, and Dillon who had one hand free started tickling her causing her to giggle and kick her legs against his chest. Alexis and Lily, deciding to save Emma, ran up and latched onto his legs. Each had their arms and legs wrapped around his leg, in what looked like an attempt to squeeze him to death. He looked down at them and then over to me as he lifted each leg one at a time and walked around the livingroom with the girls still holding onto his legs and Emma trying to get down.
"Daddy turned into a monster!" Emma shrieked as Dillon growled and held her upside down by her feet just barely out of Alexis and Lily's grasps. They played around for about ten more minutes before Dillon came into the kitchen, sweaty from playing so hard.
"Well I don't think we'll have a problem getting them to sleep tonight." He said as he wiped the back of his hand across his forehead. I just stared at him as he tried to clean off most of the perspiration. His dress shirt from work was wrinkled and his sleeves were rolled up. I don't think I had ever seen him look as good as he did right now. "What?" He asked as he noticed me staring at him.
"Nothing. I love you." I said as he smiled and walked over to me and pulled me into a hug followed by a quick kiss as Emma ran into the kitchen.
"Can we watch Nemo on the big screen?" She pleaded as she stuck her lower lip out at Dillon. She knew he couldn't say no to that.
"Sure thing, babygirl. I'll be out to put the movie in in a few minutes ok. Here, bring these out for you girls to snack on." He said as he handed her a box of Cheez-Its from the cupboard and she took off back into the livingroom.
"You ready for a second one?" I asked as I took his hand and placed it on my stomach. It had been about a month since I had found out I was pregnant again. Dillon looked down at my stomach and slowly moved my shirt up with one hand. My belly was still relatively flat with it just beginning to swell. He pressed the palm of his hand over the swollen area and then looked back up into my eyes.
"More than anything."
"So we pulled out the sofa bed and the five of us sat there eating Cheez-It's watching Nemo, The Lion King and Lilo and Stitch until the girls fell asleep. I didn't want to leave them down stairs all night by themselves, incase one of them woke up and forgot where they were or couldn't find us. So Dillon pulled out the other sofa bed and we all slept in the livingroom." I said as I stared off and remembered that day like it was yesterday.
"I remember that. Emma couldn't stop talking about how much fun her and the girls had. She said they camped out." Mom said as she laughed.
"Yea, now whenever they come over they want to do it again. I tried to see if they wanted to camp out in Emma's room but they insisted on sleeping in the livingroom. They wanted to watch movies and we had to sleep down there too. I swear, I think it was just so they could wake us up in the morning. Although, that next morning Dillon got up early with them and they made breakfast. Granted they made a big mess but it was still good, and Dillon cleaned up.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I know right now is a really hard time for you Georgie, but I expect you to go home and rest, I want you to come back in a week so we can check your blood pressure and make sure it is stable." Dr. Meadows said as I got down off the bed and Mac came over and picked up Emma who was just waking up.
"Thank you." Mom said as we walked out of her office and around to the front desk. She patted my arm gently and smiled at me before she walked away, heading to her next appointment. As we turned the corner, I realized that the hospital was really crowded and I walked closely to my mom as people rushed past me. Mac had come back shortly after he left and said that there had been shots in the building but when they got into the room Faith and her guards were all tied up but no one else was in the building. That scared the hell out of me because that could mean that something happened, or Dillon was hurt. Then on top of everything, a really bad storm had broke out and power was out all over town, except for the hospital because it had generators. At that moment, the thought of going home and relaxing was the very thing I didn't want to do. I wanted to find Dillon.
We filled out some forms and scheduled another appointment for next week as Mac went to get me some water to drink. My throat was really dry and I was having a hard time swallowing, due in part to my nerves. As we were waiting for him to get back I sat down with Emma who was still not talking when the elevator doors opened up and Dillon and Lorenzo slowly made their way off the elevator. Lorenzo was leaning against Dillon. At first I couldn't believe it and stared as Emma jumped out of the chair.
"Daddy!!" She yelled as she ran across the hallway, ducking and dodging whoever got in her way. When Dillon saw her running he turned and caught her in one arm as he tried to hold onto Lorenzo and keep him balanced. As soon as he was stable, Dillon wrapped both his arms around Emma as she held onto him for dear life. Dillon's eyes scanned the room and when he finally saw me, I broke out of my daze and quickly ran, as best as I could, over to him and threw my arms around him, burying my face in his neck. Tears started pouring out of my eyes as I sobbed with relief. Holding tightly onto Emma, he wrapped his other arm around me and kissed the side of my face, feverishly kissing a trail up to my lips.
"Oh God, Dillon." I sobbed again as he silenced me with his lips.
"Don't...just kiss me." He said as I gratefully obliged. Soon my mom and Mac, along with Bobbie made their way over to us.
"What happened? What did Faith do?" I asked as I looked down to Lorenzo who was trying to play the pain in his leg off like it was nothing.
"Faith didn't do anything to us. I'll explain what happened later once everything has calmed down, but we were coming here because I knew that is where you were. Anyways, the storm got really bad and when we were walking through the parking lot, he twisted his ankle when he stepped in a pot hole that was much deeper than he anticipated." He said as Lorenzo lightly laughed. "Are you alright, is the baby fine?" Dillon asked as he suddenly remembered why we were all here.
"We are both fine, but I need to rest and stop worrying. My nerves are about shot."
"Daddy, I was scared." Emma said as she laid her head on his shoulder and yawned.
"Aww, babygirl, I am just fine. Ok?" He asked as she shook her head. "But, can grandma take you, because I am really wet and I don't want you to catch a cold." Dillon said as he kissed her again. Relieved that he was all right, Emma willingly went to mom.
"Bobbie, it is probably just a sprain, but can you get a doctor to look at his ankle?" Dillon asked.
"Will do." She said as she walked away.
"God, I am so glad you are ok!" I said as I wrapped my arms back around Dillon.
"I'm fine, but you are going to catch a cold too. Let me make sure a doctor checks da...Lorenzo over and then we can go home. Believe me, I want nothing more than to just go home, take a shower and go to sleep with you in my arms." He said as he rested his forehead against mine.
"That is completely out of the question." Lorenzo said as he stood back up and winced as he accidentally put too much pressure on his right foot. Dillon jumped to steady him. Lorenzo leaned against Dillon as an orderly brought a wheel chair over and he eased himself into it. "I'm fine, you all go home and be with each other. This was supposed to be one of the happiest days of your lives and it was ruined. At least go home and relax." Lorenzo said softly as he looked at me and then to my stomach. "Go take care of yourself."
"Are you sure?" Dillon asked as he looked torn.
"Yes, if you don't I will get up out of here and kick you in the ass with my good foot. Go!" Lorenzo said as he started to push himself up out of the chair.
"Ok, ok, Emma is tired and we all need to just go to bed and rest." Dillon said as he jumped back, out of Lorenzo's reach and smiled when he sat back down.
"Mac and I can still take Emma." Mom said looking back and forth between Emma and I.
"No that's ok, I think after everything that has happened today, she'll want to be home." Dillon said as he walked over to the elevator and pushed the button to go down.
"Ok, I'll follow you and put her in the car. You're too wet and she is too heavy for Georgie to be carrying right now." Mom said as she walked up to Dillon and wrapped her free arm around his neck. "You have no idea how grateful I am that you weren't hurt. I don't know what we would have done."
"Thanks, and thanks so much for making sure Georgie came here, I know if it was up to her she would have stayed out there and not gotten checked out until after the fact." Dillon said as he shook Mac's hand.
"It was my pleasure, it gave me a chance to actually see Georgie. Everything has been so hectic lately." Mac said as he looked over to me and smiled. I hugged him as the elevator doors opened and we walked on. I leaned against Dillon as he wrapped his arm around my waist.
"You ready to go home, Mrs Quartermaine?" Dillon said with a laugh.
"More than anything, Mr. Quartermaine." I whispered as the doors slowly closed.
Chapter 17
"You and the baby look perfectly healthy, Mrs. Quartermaine. I take it you took my advice and got plenty of rest?" Dr. Meadows asked as she moved the transducer over my belly and peered down at me over the rim of her glasses.
"Yes, Dillon would barely let me get out of bed. I had to threaten him with bodily harm to get up so I could go play with Emma." I said as I squeezed Dillon's hand and smiled up at him as his cheeks had a slight hint of redness to them.
"Sorry, but I didn't want you to over-exert yourself." He said as he stared at the monitor that allowed us to see the baby.
"For heaven's sake it was just Go Fish." I said with a laugh.
"You're really competitive." He said in defense. Dr. Meadows quietly laughed as she moved the transducer across my belly to get different views of the baby.
"Would you two like to know the sex of the baby?" She asked as I looked up into Dillon's eyes and he nodded.
"Ummm, sure." I said as I squeezed his hand and sat up a little to get a better look at the monitor. She moved the transducer down towards the lower side of my belly and before she could say anything, I already knew. "Oh my god, it's a boy!!" I shrieked.
"That's right, you have a good eye."
"Wait, I don't see anything. Show me." Dillon whined as I reached for him, not taking my eyes off the monitor. I grabbed a handful of his shirt and yanked him down so his face was beside mine and I pointed to the monitor. "Ummm, honey, Emma didn't have one of those." I said with a laugh as Dr. Meadows covered her mouth with her hand to stop herself from laughing.
"Would you like me to print some of these out?" She asked as she took a towel and whipped the gel off my stomach.
"Yes, we would love some." I said as she smiled and then left the room. I slowly got up and lowered my shirt and walked over to the sink, getting some clean paper towels wet and finished cleaning off my belly. When I turned around Dillon was sitting in the chair beside the bed with a huge smile on his face, staring at me. "Didn't anyone ever tell you it's not polite to stare." I said as I walked over to him and stood in front of him with my hands on my hips.
"You're amazing, you know that?" He said as he reached up and held onto my hips and sat me down on his lap.
"Well of course I know that, I've just been waiting for you to realize it as well. I am kind of disappointed that it took you so long." I said with a laugh as I rested my head back on his shoulder.
"You are too much." He said with a laugh as he kissed the inside of my neck and placed both our hands on my stomach. "We are going to have a son." He breathed against my neck causing me to shiver.
"Yep, we are going to have a son, and Emma is going to have a little brother." I said as I hugged his arms closer to me. Dr. Meadows came in a few minutes later and once Dillon helped me up we got our pictures and the vitamins I would need and left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"When is your mom bringing Emma back?" Dillon asked from the bathroom that was connected to our room.
"Tomorrow after she gets done playing at the park with Alexis and Lily." I said as he walked out rubbing his neck. "What's wrong?" I asked as I walked up to him.
"I think I slept wrong last night or something. My neck and back is killing me." He said as he winced.
"Aww, go lay down on the bed, I'll give you a massage." I said as I quickly kissed him on the lips before going into the bathroom. I came back out a few seconds later with some massage oils but he was still standing there working his fingers into his neck. "Come on." I said as I grabbed his hand and led him to the bed. He sat down at the edge and wrapped his arms around my legs pulling my closer to him and rested his head on my stomach. "I should be the one giving you a massage." He said as I laughed and ran my fingers through his hair.
"Yea, but you can't give a good massage if you are in pain. So lay down." I said as I pushed him back. He finally gave in, took his shirt off and laid down on his stomach. "Tell me if I am too heavy." I said as I straddled his lower waist.
"You're not." He said with a laugh. I reached for the remote and turned the tv off so there would be no noise to distract us.
"Vanilla or Honey?" I asked as I looked down at the two bottles of massage oils.
"Whatever you like." He said as he wiggled under me a little to get comfortable.
"Ok, Vanilla." I said as I unscrewed the cap and poured some of the oil onto my hands. I sat the bottle back onto the table beside the bed and rubbed the oil on both my hands and started up at Dillon's neck. I could feel the tenseness in his shoulders and worked the palm of my hands into the back of his neck as he relaxed, the tension leaving after a few minutes. "So what happened with Faith the other day?" I whispered as I worked at his shoulder blades.
"After you guys left...ughhh...she kept going on and on about how my mom killed her husband. Then after she kept talking, my mom said something about a life insurance policy and Faith blew up saying that she...mmmm...that she was the one that killed him." He said as I got more oil and started massaging his back and sides.
"Then what happened?" I asked as I ran my hands back up to his neck and then down his back again.
"She fired a shot into the ceiling to prove a point, I guess, and as soon as she did that a bunch of Lorenzo's guys came running into the room. It was great, like something out of a movie. They surrounded all of her men and forced them to give up their weapons and then tied them all up and we left out the back. I don't know why we had to leave out the back but I was just worried about getting to you...ughhh." He grunted as I pressed my palms into his lower back where I was sitting. I didn't say anything else, just kept massaging his back until all the tension was gone and all the oils had soaked in. "Feel better?" I asked as I leaned down and kissed behind his ear.
"Much." He said as he turned around underneath me so I was now sitting on his stomach. He sat up so he was right in front of me and I was still partially in his lap, kissing me softly. "Lay back." He said as he gently laid me back and moved my shirt up to my chest so my round belly was sticking up.
"What are you doing?" I asked with a laugh as he leaned down and pressed his lips to the side of my stomach.
"Hey little man, you being good for mommy?" He said as I laughed. After a few minutes I could feel the baby move. I leaned up on my elbows as the baby seemed to follow Dillon's voice.
"Keep talking." I whispered as I stared down at my stomach. He kept talking and after a few minutes the baby had fully moved to where Dillon was. "Oh my gosh!"
"Wow." He said as he sat back up and pulled me up with him "Ready for your massage now?" He asked as I nodded. "Ok lay on your side." He said as he moved out of the way so I could take his spot and lay down. I brought the sheets up to my chest and took my shirt and bra off, securing the sheets under my arms. It was harder for him to give me a massage because I couldn't lay on my stomach, so he wrapped one of his arms under my neck so I was using it as a pillow and moved the sheets so my back was exposed. He started to work the oils into my back as I leaned into him.
"Mmmm." I groaned as I closed my eyes and completely relaxed against him. He kissed the back of my neck as his hands worked into the lower part of my back that seemed to be constantly sore with the weight of the baby. The combination of his hands and kisses was causing my head to spin.
"How's that feel?" He asked as he kissed the hollow part of my throat that he knew would get my attention.
"Good, but you better stop." I said not even daring to move.
"Why?" He asked, his voice thick.
"Because, for both our sakes, don't start something you can't finish." I said as his arm wrapped around my stomach to my other side and pulled me onto my back. His lips found mine as he laid partially over top of me. My hands wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer to me.
"I'm a perfectionist, I go above and beyond." He whispered into my ear as he nibbled on it. Above and beyond didn’t even come close to describing what he did that night.

Chapter 18
"Do I have to?" Dillon whined as I tried to sit up but he pulled me back down against his chest.
"Yes! As much as I would love to stay in bed all day long I want to go tell my mom and Mac about the baby." I whispered as I cuddled into his side, burrowing deeper under the covers until I was comfortable.
"Would you have rather went over last night instead of coming home?" He asked as he ran his finger tips up and down my spine, causing my body to shiver.
"Are you kidding? Last night was amazing." I said as I rested my chin on his chest and looked up at him and smiled. "You really out-did yourself last night, Quartermaine!" I said as I sat up as quickly as possible and pushed myself out of bed. "Owww"
"What?" Dillon asked as he sat up and looked at me, his eyes darting to my swollen stomach.
"No not that!" I laughed as I ran my hand over the swell before letting my hand rest on top. "Just sore."
"Why?" He asked, his eyes filling with concern.
"You're too sweet," I said as I walked over to him and kissed him softly. "Do I really need to explain it to you?" I asked as I rested my forehead against his, laughing.
"I'm sorry, why didn't you tell me..."
"No, no it is definitely a good sore."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Anybody home?" I asked as we walked into the livingroom of my mom's house.
"We're in here, honey!" Mom called out as we walked into the kitchen. Mom, Mac and Maxie were all sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee.
"Hey Maxie, I didn't know you were here. Your car wasn't out front." I said as she stood up and gave me a quick hug, motioning for me to take her seat as she sat down in another chair. I normally would have stood, but today, the seat was much welcomed.
"Kyle took the boys to his sisters. She hates me, so I figured it would be best for BJ and Blake not to have to witness their mother kicking their aunts ass, so I came over here to visit."
"Where's Emma?" I asked as I looked over to my mom.
"She's upstairs taking a nap. Mac took her to the park and then they went to the store where she wore herself out trying to decide what she wanted." Mom said as we all laughed.
"You spoil her so bad." I said to Mac.
"Shamelessly." He replied as he took another sip of his coffee. "How are you feeling?"
"Sore."
"Why?" Mac asked as everyone turned their full attention towards me.
"I was up all night long." I said as Dillon, who was drinking his coffee, chocked.
He gave me a surprised look as everyone looked at him. He leaned back against the counter, his face turning a deep shade of red. "Sorry...it...it was too hot." He said trying to cover up his sudden outburst.
"Anyways," I said getting everyone's attention. "We wanted to come by and tell everyone about the doctors appointment yesterday."
"Is something wrong?" My mom asked, her eyes wide with concern, already starting to water.
"Oh no, nothing is wrong. I am fine and the baby is perfectly healthy."
"Absolutely," Dillon smiled, coming over and leaning down to kiss my cheek. "By the way, Maxie," he added casually, reaching to rub her shoulders, "you'd better start working on those twin girls if you want to have even teams for family touch football."
"Dillon Quartermaine," she scoffed, "you've never played touch football in your -" Her eyes popped open - "Oh my god! Oh my god, you're having a boy!" She grabbed my hands so hard it hurt. "You're having a boy, aren't you?" Maxie squealed as I shook my head yes and she threw her arms around me in a tight hug.
"Oh honey, that is so great!" Mom said as she took my hands in hers and squeezed them gently, smiling from ear to ear.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"But mommy, I want to sleep with you and daddy tonight!" Emma said as she crawled up onto my lap and threw her arms around my waist, leaning her head against my belly.
"Just tonight, ok babygirl?" I said as she giggled when the baby got the hickups. She raised her head up at first and then laid it back down.
"That tickles!"
"Would you like to have a little brother?" Dillon asked as he sat down on the bed beside me.
"Uhh huh!!" Emma said, shaking her head enthusiastically. Then her face fell. "I'm still babygirl, right?" She asked with sad eyes as realization hit that there would be another person coming soon. She wouldn't be the only one anymore.
"Of course you will! You will always be our babygirl." Dillon said as he cupped her face in his hand.
Emma placed her ear back down on my stomach and after a few seconds, looked back at me and then to Dillon "Can we name him babyboy?"
"Well, we can call him that, but I think he needs a name, like how your's is Emma, he needs a name too. But we can call him babyboy." Dillon said as he reached over and took her in his arms before placing her on the bed in between us.
"Can I pick out his name?" She asked as she pulled the covers up to her chin and wiggled further into Dillon's side as he wrapped his arm around her. I looked over at him and he smirked.
"How about we all pick out his name?" I asked.
"Ok." She said with a yawn as her eyes grew heavy and soon shut as her breathing became regulated with sleep.
Dillon's POV "I can't believe it has been five years!" Georgie said as she laid down and brushed the hair out of Emma's face.
"I know, it seems like we were just 17 and in high school, worrying about your grades and my family." I said with a laugh, remembering the little things back then that seemed so big.
"It is amazing how quickly and selflessly your priorities change when you have a child."
"I know, it seems like you just had Emma yesterday..."
I never once, backed down from a punch. I'd take it square on the chin. Well I found out fast a bully's just that, You've got to stand up to him. 'Cause I didn't cry when I got a black eye, As bad as it hurt, I just grinned. But when tough little boys grow up to be Dads They turn into big babies again.
"How did you ever make your way to us?" I whispered, looking down at Emma as she slept in my arms. I rocked gently in the rocking chair that faced the window as Dreams Are The Flowers (That Bloom In Your Heart) played softly in the background. Tonight was her first night in her room after being released from the hospital earlier in the afternoon. A light breeze came in through the window, stirring the white sheer curtains and ruffling the little bit of hair that Emma already had.
"I can't promise you much, babygirl, because I don't want to promise something I can't do, but I can promise you this: you will never be alone, you will never feel unwanted and you will always be loved. I've learned how important family is from your mommy. Our families are very loud and very complex, but there is a deep love that runs through them, even if you hardly ever see it. It is there!"
Scared me to death, when took your first steps, Well I'd fall every time you fell down. Your first day of school, I cried like a fool, and I followed your school bus to town.
“Georgie are you in here?" I asked softly as I knocked on the door to the nursery. I slowly opened the door. My breath caught as I watched Georgie stand at the window looking out at the night sky. The streetlight producing a soft halo around her as she held Emma to her, kissed the top of her head and swayed softly. She hadn't heard me knock on the door. She looked as though she was lost in thought, and I didn't want to break it so I quietly walked across the room towards her. When I finally reached her I wrapped my arms around her from behind, my hands coming to rest over hers. She jumped at first but quickly relaxed as she leaned back into me. "Thanks you!" Georgie whispered as she leaned her head back on my shoulder.
"For what?" I asked as I kissed her temple and then her neck before resting my chin on her shoulder, looking down at Emma who was sleeping peacefully, content in Georgie's arms.
"For Emma. I know we were young, but I don't regret a single thing."
“Me either."
Well I didn't cry when Old Yeller died, at least not in front of my friends. But when tough little boys grow up to be Dads, They turn into big babies again.
"Come on, you can do it babygirl!" I said as I held my arms out. Georgie stood behind Emma, as Emma held onto her fingers. She walked unsteadily with Georgie's help, concentrating hard on moving her legs. She was seven months old and already trying to walk! She stuck her tongue out of the corner of her mouth as she slowly moved forward.
"I'm going to let go now."
"Are you sure? What if she falls?" I asked in a panic as Georgie laughed.
"Dillon, if she falls, she will do one of two things. Either try again, or try later, she'll be fine. She'll never learn if I don't let go." Georgie said as she slowly released Emma's grip on her fingers and I had to force myself to not grab her before she lost her balance. We held our breath as Emma wobbled a little but regained her balance, smiling up at us. Her mouth full of four teeth. She held her arms out as she slowly swayed, lifting her right leg a little and then bringing it right back into its place when she almost fell. I crouched down to her eye level and held my hands out to her.
"Just a couple steps, and I've got you." I said as she lifted her right leg again, this time bringing it down a few inches in front of her other foot, quickly lifting her left leg and following that action. This threw her balance off and I jumped to catch her.
"Oh my God, she did it! She took her first steps!" Georgie squealed as everyone ran into the livingroom. Georgie ran up to me and threw her arms around Emma and I as she kissed Emma all over her face.
"That's my girl!" I said as I tossed her up in the air.
Maxie came running down the stairs. "What happened?" She asked, her hair up in curlers and green stuff all over her face.
"Emma took her first steps!" Georgie said, her face beaming. Maxie squealed and started to come towards us when Emma buried her head in my shoulder, whimpering.
"Whoops, sorry!! I forgot she hates this stuff." She said as she pointed to the thick green gunk covering her face as she turned and ran back up the stairs.
Well I'm a grown man, but as strong as I am, Well sometimes it's hard to believe, How one little girl, with little blonde curls, can totally terrify me. well if you were to ask my wife would just laugh, She'd say, "I know all about men,And how tough little boys grow up to be Dads they turn into big babies again.
Exhausted couldn't even begin to describe the way I was feeling at the moment. Ned was working me to the bone over at ELQ now that he was also trying to run LNB at the same time. Him jumping back and forth between the two was only giving me a heavier work load, but I had received a raise because of it, so I welcomed the extra hours. The only part I hated was that it took time away from being with Georgie and Emma. Valuable time that I was missing, but it had to be done. Georgie is in her senior year of high school and I wasn't about to set around and do nothing.
I didn't go to work until around ten in the morning, so I tended to Emma in the morning so Georgie wouldn't have to worry about feeding her or anything while she was getting ready for school. Then Felicia watched Emma until Georgie got home, in which I didn't normally get home until eight in the evening. It was rough at times, but we survived and we had decided early on that we would continue to live with Felicia and Mac until Georgie was out of high school, and by then we would have our own house and Georgie could focus on going to college.
Tonight was a common occasion as of recently in which I was stuck at work until ten and it was now a quarter till eleven as I walked in the front door.
"Ned being a slave-driver again?" Felicia asked with a smile as I put my keys on the hall table and shrugged my jacket off and loosened my tie. Usually I would have laughed at Felicia's comment, but tonight I was too tired, I could barely smile at her.
"More than you'll know, is Georgie still up?" I asked as Felicia stood from her position on the couch and turned off the tv. She would never admit to it, but I knew she waited up for me on the nights when I didn't get home by eight. If I was late, when I came home we would normally talk for a few minutes and then she would give her usual 'wow is it really that late' look to the clock and then turn off the tv and go to bed like she lost track of time. It was comforting, though, to know that she waited to make sure I was ok.
"I'm not sure, Emma had a stomach ache and the last time I saw Georgie was about an hour ago when she came down for some peppermint candy to give to Emma to settle her stomach."Felicia said as she walked around the couch and pointed to my hair. "Ned worked you so hard, your hair isn't sticking up anymore."
I couldn't help but laugh at that. She walked over to me and put one arm around my shoulder, hugging me to her quickly. "You must be tired, go to sleep and I'll get Emma in the morning, tell Georgie I said goodnight if she is still up."
"I will, night!" I said as I continued loosening my tie until I slipped it from around my neck.
"Night." I could hear Felicia say as she walked to her room and I made my way up the stairs. I walked over to the nursery and slowly opened the door, but realized that Emma wasn't in there so I made my way back to Georgie's room. I could see from the bottom of her door that the lights were still on but when I quietly made my way into the room, I stopped short. Georgie and Emma were both asleep on the bed. Georgie was curled towards Emma who was sleeping on her stomach with her head turned towards Georgie. The covers were pulled up over them but I could tell that Georgie had one arm wrapped around Emma preventing her from going anywhere, and her other arm was under her head in place of a pillow.
I walked over to the bed, I loved watching them sleep, they were both so beautiful. I quietly changed in the bathroom and got ready for bed, trying not to wake them up I slowly climbed under the covers and turned out the light beside the bed. I turned on my side, facing Georgie and got comfortable as I felt Georgie's fingers softly run up my side. I covered her hand with mine and looked over at her.
"Sorry." I whispered as she opened her eyes slightly before shutting them again.
"I tried to wait up, but I was too tired." She said slowly as she started to drift off back to sleep.
"I love you." I said as I brought her hand up to my lips and kissed her palm.
"Love you to." She said with a smile as sleep over came her. I looked down to Emma who was asleep between us and watched as her chest rose and fell with each breath she took, and thanked God for all that he had given me.
Well I know one day I'll give you away, and I'm goin to stand there and smile. When I get home and I'm all alone, I'll sit in your room for awhile. Well I didn't cry when Old Yeller died, at least not in front of my friends. But when tough little boys grow up to be Dads They turn into big babies again.
"Babygirl, why are you giving me such a hard time? You love Spaghetti-O's." I said trying to sound stern, but failing miserably.
"Me!" She yelled as she held her hands out grasping for the food.
"No, we are trying to avoid messes, not create them." I said as I sat on a chair in front of her high chair.
"Pwease" She whimpered when I moved the spoon towards her mouth. She instinctively closed her mouth and stuck out her bottom lip.
"No babygirl, because if I let you feed yourself than daddy is going to have to give you a bath and we won't be able to watch Winnie-the-Pooh." I said as I wiggled the spoon on her lips trying to fit the spoon in but she held her mouth shut. She grabbed onto the spoon, trying to take it from me. "Let go, or you won't get to watch Pooh! You'll sit on your bed for time out." I warned as I tried to pull the spoon out of her grip while also trying not to spill the Spaghetti-O's that were in it. She let go suddenly and the spoon snapped back as the Spaghetti-O's splattered all over my face.
I opened my eyes when all the sauce was safely out of my eyes and Emma sat completely still, her eyes wide and her hands covering her mouth. "Sowwie daddy." She gasped, waiting for my reaction. I knew I should get angry and explain why she should have listened but I just couldn't. I leaned down and kissed her cheek in reassurance and as I pulled back she picked an O off of my cheek.
"Is that all?" I asked as I grabbed a wet washcloth and ran it over my face cleaning off all of the tomato sauce. Emma stood up in her chair and pointed to me, so I lowered my head to her as her tiny fingers picked the remaing Spaghetti-O's out of my hair.

"Daddy what's wrong?" Emma asked as she climbed up onto my lap.
"Daddy's got a headache from work." I said as I rubbed my temples trying to alleviate the throbbing sensation that had been slowly progressing since earlier this afternoon.
"I make it better." Emma announced as she sat up on her knees in my lap, placing a hand on either side of my head and kissing my forehead. "All better?" She asked as she leaned back and looked at me. I smiled down at her, feeling better just by being around her.
"One more." I said as I pointed to my cheek. She smiled brightly and quickly kissed my cheek, giggling as I picked her up and held her in the air above me. "Wait a minute, isn't something important tomorrow? I forget." I said as I sat her back down on my lap and looked around confused.
"It's my first day of school, silly!" Emma squealed as she jumped up and down.
"Oh that's right! Hey, I got an idea, how about...we dance?" I suggested as her eyes lit up.
"OK!" She said as she jumped down off of the couch and pulled my arms until I was standing up. Ever since she was big enough to walk I would dance with her, and she loved it. I walked over to our stereo and found the CD I was looking for and put it in, pressing play. The familiar chords of Moonlight Serenade flowed throughout the room as I walked back over to where Emma was standing. "Hop on." I said as I held my hands out to her. She took hold as she quickly put her feet over mine. We slowly moved back and forth in short steps as the music progressed.
"Why are we dancing to this song?" Emma asked as she took her concentration off our feet and looked up at me.
"Because this is a very special song. This was the first song mommy and I ever danced to."
"Really?" She asked, her eyes dancing with curiosity.
"Yep, and it was very romantic, except for the occasional mishap." Georgie said, snapping our attention to where she was standing, watching us.
"Ok, so maybe breaking into the club wasn't the best idea, but I was young and in love." I said in my defense as Emma and I continued to dance, but my eyes never left Georgie's.
"Ohhh daddy that is very bad." Emma said sternly as she jumped off of my feet, staring at me with her hands on her hips.
"Well excuse me, I was just trying to impress mommy." I said as I walked over to Georgie. Emma jumped up onto the couch and watch intently. "We started dancing and I was telling mommy about a movie..." I said as I took her hands and placed them on my shoulder, much like I had done years ago. My hands resting on her hips. "...and then we kissed" I whispered as I lowered my head to Georgie's, our lips touching softly as Georgie's arms tightened around my neck deepening the kiss.
"Ewwww." Emma squealed as she buried her head in her hands. The front door opened, causing us to jump apart.
"What's going on?" Maxie asked as she walked in the room.
"Ughhh doo you have ESP or something?" Georgie groaned as her head fell onto my shoulder, defeated.
