Chapter 1
"Are you ready to see mommy and daddy singing and dancing today, Emma?" I asked as I looked into the rear-view mirror to see her head nodding up and down enthusiastically.
It had been four years since Emma was born, and a lot has happened since then. We stayed at the house for a year before Dillon and I got our own house, but I was always going back to see Mac and my mom atleast once a day. I couldn't stay gone for too long and Emma loved going over there. Dillon and I had taken things slowly after Emma was born, and he stayed true to his word to Mac that we would wait a few years to get married. We had decided to wait a little longer than expected to take our time planning it and getting everything organized.
Maxie and Kyle eventually got back together once he proved to her that he had changed and was no longer into drugs and alcohol. After Dillon threatened to kill Kyle if he ever hurt Maxie again all had settled down and remained rather calm. They were together for a year before he proposed to Maxie and they were married a little under ten months ago. To top it all off Maxie is now 6 months pregnant, they decided early on to find out the sex of the baby and were delighted to find out they were having not one, but two boys!
Right now Emma and I were on our way to The Grille. Tonight was the return of The Nurse's Ball and everyone was going to be there. It had been 8 years since the last Nurse's Ball and this one would hopefully live up to all the hype that had surrounded it since the announcment of its return. Lucy Coe promised to host the event but enlisted a couple more people to help with the planning. Dillon and I, along with Maxie, Kyle, Lucas and a few others had all pitched in to help make this the biggest record-breaking Nurse's Ball Port Charles had ever seen.
"We're here babe." I said as I parked the car and went around to unbuckle Emma from her seat in the back. I grabbed my purse and Emma's bag of toys and we headed into the restaurant that was now converted into a huge stage that covered almost half of the floor-space. White, black and Pearl balloons and streamers hung beautifully from the ceilings. Tables were situated through-out the remaining space and they had gorgeous white-iron chairs that had white satin fabric hanging from each one. The tables were decorated with black table-clothes and white rose centerpieces with pearls sprinkled all over. I had helped set it all up last night but walking in and getting the full effect all at once was breath-taking to say the least.
"Is daddy here?" Emma asked as she tugged on my arm impatiently. She wouldn't have cared if the room was covered in lime-green and orange. It wouldn't have made a difference to her.
"He should be." I said as I looked around. The place was fairly deserted save for the occasional set/prop guy that would run across the stage. "Wait, I think I see him right over there by that door. Do you see him?" I asked as I pointed to where Dillon was. She didn't even reply, she just took off running across the room.
"Daddy!" She squealed as she ran towards him. He turned around just in time to catch her as she threw herself into his arms. He picked her up and hugged her to him as she tightened her arms around his neck.
"Hey babygirl, I thought you guys got lost. I was about to send the dogs out after you two." Dillon said as he tossed her up in the air with ease as she giggled.
"You and Mommy dancing up there?" She asked as she pointed her small little fingers to the stage that was having the last minute details worked out on.
"Yep, and Aunt Maxie is going to be up there too!!" Dillon said as I walked over to them. He leaned forward and kissed me.
"You look beautiful, is that dress new because I would have remembered it." He asked as he took my hand and slowly spun me around. My dress was a spaghetti strap dark blue, almost purple color with an empire waist where the fabric of the dress just barely skimmed the floor.
"Brand new, just for tonight!" I said as Maxie and Kyle walked in at the other side of the room. Maxie was glowing, there were no other words to describe her at the moment. Even though she was only six months along she was showing a great deal because of the twins. She was wearing a light yellow dress that brought out her skin tone and emphasized her growing belly. Emma started squirming in Dillon's arms and as soon as he set her down she took off in Maxie and Kyle's direction.
"You look absolutly gorgeous." Dillon said as he pulled me closer to him and draped his arms around my waist with his hand resting on the small of my back.
"Thank you, and you look very good tonight yourself." I said as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"What do you say we ditch this thing and go home, I'm sure Maxie would watch Emma for the night." He said as he moved his lips closer to mine. "We could have the whole house to ourselves."
"As much as I woul love to, this is for Emily. But I am sure we could get away for a little bit here and there without anyone noticing." I said as we were so close I could feel my lips occasionally brushing up against his. He pulled my closer to him and out lips finally met as what seemed like electric sparks shot all through me. We had been together for almost six years, but everytime we kissed it felt like the first time.
"I don't know if I can wait that long to kiss you again. Not when you look as good as you do." He whispered against my lips.
"You'll be fine, once this starts you'll be thinking of lots of other things besides me." I whispered back.
"I don't think so."
"You know, there are children present in the room." Kyle said as he walked over with Maxie who was busy talking to Emma about the babies.
"Well then shut your eyes." I said as I pulled away briefly before quickly kissing Dillon one last time.
"Ouch, that hurt Georgie." Kyle said as he put his hand over his heart.
"You'll survive. So are you two ready?" I asked as I leaned back into Dillon as he wrapped his arms around me from behind.
"Yep, when does it start?" Maxie asked as she rubbed her hands over her belly. Everytime I saw her, it alwasy reminded me of when I was pregnant with Emma.
"In about two hours. Mac and mom should be here soon, they are going to watch Emma for us until they have to go up on stage and then she'll come back stage with us." I said as I looked at Emma who was sitting on the floor coloring a picture of one of the "Precious Moments" characters. We talked until Mac and mom came about ten minutes later and then we all went back stage to go over last minute details and the guest started arriving. I was a little nervous but more excited than anything. Maxie had been in the Nurse's Ball when she was little and I was too little to remember so this was my first time. Plus to top it off, Dillon and I were going to be the main singers in the opening number, along with a few other numbers. We all got in our costumes for the first number and waited backstage while they set up the props and Lucy welcomed all the guests. Dillon quickly kissed me as we went our seperate ways and got into place. The music started and everyone cheered at the classic song.
Summer loving had me a blast Summer loving happened so fast I met a girl crazy for me Met a boy cute as can be Summer days drifting away to oh oh the summer nights
The set looked like it came right off of the movie set. There was a brick 'wall' positioned in the middle of the stage and on one side was an outdoors lunch area where me and a bunch of other girls including Liz, Gia, Emily, and Maxie were sitting and on the other side was a set of bleachers where Dillon, Lucas, Kyle, Lucky, Nikolas and a bunch of other guys were sitting. Everyone was in complete costume with the girls in poodle skirts and ribbons in their hair while the guys had on jeans, white t-shirts and various leather jackets.
Tell me more, tell me more Did you get very far Tell me more, tell me more Like does he have a car
She swam by me she got a cramp He swam by me got my suit damp I saved her life she nearly drown He showed off splashing around Summer sun something's begun but oh oh the summer nights
Tell me more, tell me more Was it love at first sight? Tell me more, tell me more Did she put up a fight?
Took her bowling in the arcade We went strolling drank lemonade We made out under the dock We stayed out till ten o'clock Summer fling don't mean a thing but oh oh the summer nights......
The rest of the song went off without a hitch and the audience loved it!! As soon as the curtains shut we all jumped up and ran backstage to get ready for the next number. Luckily not to many of us besides the background dancers were in it. Jax, Ned, AJ, and Mac all ran by quickly as they got into position. We couldn't hear what Lucy was saying, but from the reaction she was getting from the crowd she was obviously saying something funny. The curtains opened back up and the first verses to "Friends In Low Places" started as Jax took the first verse and then the others joined in at the chorus. They had a whole western bar set up and the women were going crazy.
Dillon, Kyle and Lucas went out next and sang a beautiful rendition of "All For Love" with Kyle playing the guitar and then after that the stage was tranformed into what appeared to be a New York city street in which Ned and Bobbie went out and sang "Wild Nights". Mom was going to be in the next act so she brought Emma back with her. Dillon and I weren't needed for a couple more acts so we changed back into our outfits we wore here and went out into the audience so we could watch some of the next acts. Luke, mom and Bobbie came out dressed in clothes from the 70's and sang "Love Shack" while a bunch of people danced around them on roller skates.
The next song was the one I had been waiting for all night. Originally Maxie was going to just be in one or two of the numbers, ones that didn't involve any major stress or strain but she had insisted on singing one particular song by herself. Ever since she had become pregnant, and even before when she became engaged to Kyle, she had been thinking about BJ a lot. She knew that because of BJ she was living, and because of her, she was going to be having two little baby boys here soon and she was the reason she was now married to the man she loved. So she insisted on singing "There You'll Be" as a tribute to BJ on behalf of herself and our family. Bobbie, Tony and Lucas didn't know, it was a suprise that only a few people knew about. Lucy introduced Maxie with emotion thick in her throat and the lights dimmed to almost complete blackness. I small light appeared on Maxie's round belly and grew in size and brightness till it completely encompassed Maxie.
When I think back on these times And the dreams we left behind I’ll be glad cause I was blessed to get to have you in my life
When I look back on these days I’ll look and see your face You were right there for me
In my dreams I’ll always see you soaring by the sky In my heart there’ll always be a place for you For all my life I’ll keep a part of you with me And everywhere I am there you’ll be And everywhere I am there you’ll be
Well you showed me how it feels To feel the sky within my reach And I always will remember all the strength you gave to me You’re love made me make it through Oh I owe so much to you You were right there for me
In my dreams I’ll always see you soaring by the sky In my heart there’ll always be a place for you For all my life I’ll keep a part of you with me And everywhere I am there you’ll be
Cause I always saw in you my light, my strength And I want to thank you now for all the ways You were right there for me (You were right there for me) You were right there for me For always
In my dreams I’ll always see you soaring by the sky In my heart there’ll always be a place for you For all my life
I’ll keep a part of you with me And everywhere I am there you’ll be And everywhere I am there you’ll be There you’ll be……..
Through out the song; pictures, images and home movies of BJ playing and at ballet classes and recitals, or school were being played on a big TV behind Maxie. By the end of the first verse almost everyone in the audience was in tears and I looked for Bobbie and saw her sitting with Lucas a couple tables from where we were sitting. She was crying but smiling at the same time as she looked between Maxie and the images of BJ. I quietly got up and walked over to where she was sitting and eased into the chair beside her and took her hand. She gently squeezed it and held onto Lucas with her other hand. Tony walked over and stood behind her as Maxie finished the song, her voice thick with emotion. As the lights slowly turned back on, Maxie walked over to us and hugged Bobbie, neither one saying a word yet everything was being understood that had been bottled up in us all for years.
"That was beautiful." Bobbie said as she pulled back from Maxie and cupped her hands on Maxie's face.
"Well, I needed a way to thank you and to thank BJ, and that song was the perfect way. I really felt like BJ was watching me when I was up there." Maxie said as tears fell down her cheek.
"I bet she loved it. You are a wonderful person Maxie, I am honored to know that my daughter's heart is beating inside of you, keeping you and those babies alive." Bobbie said as Lucy came on stage to announce that there would be a short intermission to set up for the next act.
"I thank her every day for it! Infact, Kyle and I were talking and we decided to name one of the boys Brayden Joshua, BJ for short." Maxie said as she looked back to Kyle who was standing behind her.
"Oh Maxie, you don't have to do that." Bobbie said, but her voice told a different story. Her voice was filled with excitment and hope.
"I couldn't in good faith not name my son after the person who saved my life. I'll never be able to repay you and your family for what you did for me, but I can try." Maxie said as Bobbie didn't say anything else she just hugged her again before Lucy came back out.
"Ok ladies and gentlmen, thank you for being patient while we got the next set ready. I promise it will be well worth the wait." Lucy said as she took her place in the middle of the stage. She was wearing a beautiful vibrant red dress with a built in corset with black transparent silk overlapping it. "Our next two numbers will be colorful, exciting, and mesmerizing. Though I don't think anything will top the last number." Lucy said as she looked over to were Maxie was sitting. We had all went back to our table until we had to go back for our next number.
"Anyways these next two numbers will be set to the theme of the wonderful "Moulin Rouge" as you can tell by my outfit." Lucy said as she spun around and almost all the men in the room whistled. "The person who will be performing the next number is the only one who could pull it off. This song, I believe was made for her. Here to perform "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend" is Skye Quartermaine featuring Edward Quartermaine."
Once the curtains opened the stage was transformed into a elaborate, vibrant morocan palace with fabric, jewels and pillows every where. A group of male dancers were all huddled together in the middle as the song started. Skye's voice could be heard but she was no where to be seen.
The French are glad to die for Love...They delight in fighting duels... But I prefer a man who lives and gives expensive jewels
All of a sudden the men lifted her effortlessly above their heads as she stood straight up. She had on the most beautiful gown I had ever seen and she didn't waver once as the men lowered her to the ground.
A kiss on the hand may be quite continental But diamonds are a girl's best friend A kiss may be grand, but it won't pay the rental On your humble flat or help you feed your @#%$ cat Men grow cold as girls grow old and we all lose our charms in the end But square-cut or pear-shaped these rocks don't lose their shape Diamonds are a girl's best friend...Tiffany...Cartier...

At this time about 20 female dancers came out onto the stage and stood all around Skye as they danced completely in-sync with each other.
Skye and the female dancers: Cause we are living in a material world and I am a material girl Skye: Come and get me, boys Black Star, Roscor! Talk to me, Grandfather, tell me all about it! There may come a time when a lass needs a lawyer Edward: But diamonds are a girl's best friend Skye: There may come a time when a hard-boiled employer Edward: Thinks you're awful nice Skye: But get that ice or else no dice Female Dancers: He's your guy when stocks are high, but beware when they start to descend Oooo...Diamonds are a girl's best, Diamonds are a girls best, Diamonds are a girls best friend Edward: Oh! Everything's going so well! Skye: Cause that's those louses go back to their spouses, Diamonds are a girl's best friend
The set on the stage turned in a circle to reveal a whole other set on the other side. It was a park at night with fog on the ground and dim street lights along the path. People were quietly walking around when Luke came on. He was dressed like a 'child of the revolution'. Lucy came in, not noticing Luke as he slowly walked up to her, they looked like they were talking and then arguing. When all of a sudden Luke belted out the first lines of the song.
Luke: Love is a many splendored thing, Love lifts us up where we belong, All you need is Love Lucy: Please, don't start that again Luke: All you need is Love Lucy: A girl has got to eat Luke: All you need is Love Lucy: She'll end up on the street Luke: All you need is Love Lucy: Love is just a game Luke: I was made for loving you baby, You were made for loving me Lucy: The only way of loving me baby, Is to pay a lovely fee Luke: Just one night, Just one night Lucy: There's no way, Cause you can't pay Luke: In the name of Love, One night in the name of Love Lucy: You crazy fool, I won't give in to you Luke: Don't...leave me this way, I can't survive, Without your sweet Love, Oh baby, don't leave me this way Lucy: You'd think that people would have had enough of silly Love songs Luke: I look around me, And I see it isn't so, no Lucy: Some people wanna fill the world with silly Love songs Luke: Well, what's wrong with that? I'd like to know, Cause, here I go again! Love lifts us up where we belong, Where eagles fly on a mountain high Lucy: Love makes us act like we are fools, Throw our lives away, For one happy day Luke: We could be heroes, Just for one day Lucy: You, you will be mean Luke: No, I won't Lucy: And I...I'll drink all the time Luke: We should be lovers Lucy: We can't do that Luke: We should be lovers, And that's a fact Lucy: Though nothing will keep us together Luke: We could steal time, Just for one day Both: We could be heroes, Forever and ever, We could be heroes, Forever and ever, We could be heroes Luke: Just because I will always Love You Lucy: I can't help loving you...How wonderful life is Both: Now, you're in the world
Everyone cheered as the song ended and Dillon and I went back stage to get ready. The next song we were doing together would be just the two of us, but I was in a song before then so I needed to get ready. As we were standing back stage I almost fell out of my chair as I saw Edward, Ned, Scott, Alan, Mike, and AJ walk by, each wearing an outfit from a different member of The Village People. Edward was the indian, Ned the policeman, AJ the construction worker, Mike was the cowboy, Alan was the G.I. and Scott was the biker. Neither one of them looked to happy with their attire, but I couldn't help but to laugh. Dillon went to say something to Ned as they walked by.
"Say one word and you'll be out there with us as an extra Marine." Ned said as he held up his hand and Dillon bit his lip to keep from saying anything. The opening chords to "YMCA" came over the speakers as they all ran onto the stage and did their best to sing and stay in step with each other. Just as the song came to an end "We Are Family" blared from the speakers as all the backup dancers flooded the stage in outfits of every different color you could think of. It was definitely a sight to see. I ran back to change quickly and when I came back out Dillon's mouth almost hit the floor.
"You never told me about this outfit." He said as he looked at what I was wearing.
"What you don't like it?" I asked as I looked down at my outfit. I was wearing a black skirt that wasn't really short but short enough. A black corset top with my hair pulled up into a messy bun. To top the outfit off I had on a black top hat and black leather, knee high, high-heeled boots.
"No, I like it, I like it a lot. By any chance do you get to keep any of the costumes?" He asked as he pulled my towards him as he was sitting on the table by the dressing room doors.
"I'm not sure, why do you want me to ask if I can keep the poodle skirt?" I asked acting like I didn't get his hint.
"No I'm thinking more a long the lines of this outfit." He said as he pulled me closer and started kissing me.
"Get a room!" Liz yelled as we pulled away. I looked over to see her walking towards us laughing. "Even after six years of being joined at the hip, you two can't keep your hands off each other."
"No use letting go of a good thing." I said as Liz handed me one of the ties we were supposed to wear. I went over to the mirror and quickly tied it as everyone else walked in. Besides Liz and I, Emily, Alexis, Mom, Courtney and Carly would also be singing as well. We were all dressed in identical outfits and were putting the finishing touches on when Lucy ran back stage.
"Are you girls ready?" She asked as she quickly ran up to us.
"Yea." We all said at the same time before we all busted out laughing. Of all the number I was in or helped this one had been the most fun to practice.
"Ok, take your places. Remember, you own the place. Everyone is here to see you. Be seductive but untouchable at the same time." She said as she headed back out to the front of the stage. Dillon quickly kissed me as we got into position. The music started and we all took different verses to "I Feel Like A Women". When the song ended all the men stood up cheering and whistling.
"The next performer requested this song specifically and there was no way we could say no. I'll warn you early, get your tissues out now, I guarantee you will cry." Lucy said as the lights dimmed and Emily walked out onto the stage in a seamless, simple light silver dress with her hair still up in her messy bun from the last performance, she just added a few flowers to it.
Why be afraid if I'm not alone Though life is never easy the rest is unknown Up to now for more me it's been hands against stone Spent each and every moment Searching for what to believe
Coming out of the dark, I finally see the light now It's shining on me Coming out of the dark I know the love that saved me You're sharing with me
Starting again is part of the plan And I'll be so much stronger holding your hand Step by step I'll make it through I know I can It may not make it easier but I have felt you Near all the way
Coming out of the dark, I finally see the light now It's shining on me Coming out of the dark I know the love that saved me You're sharing with me
Forever, forever I stand on the rock of your love Forever I'll stand on the rock Forever, forever I stand on the rock of your love Love is all it takes, no matter what we face
"Wait Emily, before you leave the stage we have a few things we need to say." Dillon said as him and I walked out onto the stage. No one knew about this besides Edward, Lucy didn't even know. Emily, who had almost walked off came back over to us.
"What's going on?" She asked as she smiled at us and then at the audience who was just as suprised as she was.
"Well do you know what day it is today?" Dillon asked as she looked at him like he lost his mind.
"Yea, it's July 6th. Why?" She asked more confused now than ever.
"Today marks the five year anniversary of your breast cancer going into remission. Do you know what happens after your cancer is in remission for five years?" I asked as Edward walked out onto the stage. Dillon motioned to Alan and Monica and the rest of the Quartermaines to come up on stage. Jason even came up wheeling Lila.
"I'm pretty sure I do." She said as her eyes filled with hope and longing.
"You're cured!" Edward said as he pulled a piece of paper from behind his back. "Your doctor filled this out this morning, you are legally declared cancer free." Edward said as everyone jumped to their feet clapping and crying. Monica ran up to Emily and wrapped her arms around her. Emily just stood there motionless for a moment.
"Are you sure?" She asked as Nikolas walked up onto the stage and took Emily into his arms.
"Absolutely, and I have already decided that since the Nurse's Ball is to raise money for AIDS research I am going to match the final number to be used for cancer research as well." Edward said as Emily walked over to him and hugged him for what seemed like forever. Dillon and I quietly returned backstage unnoticed to get ready for the next song. I wouldn't be singing but I would be in it. I could hear most of what was being said on stage and back stage and Sonny, Jax and Alcazar all agreed to match the final price which meant that Edward would be giving an even bigger amount, but he didn't hesitate one bit. Emily was cured, money meant little to him at this moment.
The Nurse's Ball was coming to an end, but there were still a couple more suprises waiting for everone. My outfit for the next song was a red dress that went to my lower thighs. Red heels to match and my hair left down in tight curls so my waist length hair would accent the outfit. My whole role in this was to be the 'temptress' as Lucy had put it. I was supposed to tease Dillon and then pull away a moment too soon. Attitiude was what this would all be about.
Hey pretty baby with the high heels on You give me fever Like I've never, ever known You're just a product of loveliness I like the groove of your walk, Your talk, your dress I feel your fever From miles around I'll pick you up in my car And we'll paint the town Just kiss me baby And tell me twice That you're the one for me
I walked around him slowly as I tried my best to 'tease' him. I was having a hard time keeping a straight face because as much as this was supposed to be sexy and everything, I couldn't help it.
The way you make me feel You really turn me on You knock me off of my feet My lonely days are gone
I like the feelin' you're givin' me Just hold me baby and I'm in ecstasy Oh I'll be workin' from nine to five To buy you things just to keep you by my side I never felt so in love before Just promise baby, you'll love me forevermore I swear I'm keepin' you satisfied 'Cause you're the one for me
The way you make me feel You really turn me on You knock me off of my feet now baby - hee! My lonely days are gone -
As I got more and more into teasing him I would walk up close to him, lightly brushing past him or if he would try to follow me I would hold back until he would reach out to touch me and I would pull back quick. He would put his hand over his heart and get a pained expression, but it was all for show. Everytime I would pull away some of the people in the audience would laugh, knowing that this was all just in fun.
Go on girl! Go on! Go on girl!
I never felt so in love before Promise baby, you'll love me forevermore I swear I'm keepin' you satisfied 'Cause you're the one for me...
The way you make me feel You really turn me on You knock me off of my feet now baby - hee! My lonely days are gone
This went on for the rest of the song, but I eventually gave up trying to get away from him and we just started dancing.
The way you make me feel You really turn me on You knock me off of my feet now baby My lonely days are gone
Ain't nobody's business, ain't nobody's business Ain't nobody's business, Ain't nobody's business but mine and my baby
Give it to me - give me some time Come on be my girl - I wanna be with mine Ain't nobody's business Ain't nobody's business but mine and my baby's
When we were done everyone was hollaring and whistling. This had quickly went from a night of not knowing what to do, to one of a huge party with live entertainment. Everyone was really getting into it all which was what we had hoped for. We wanted the least amount of arguments between guests, which seemed to be as big of an event as the acts anymore, and just for everyone to have a good time and give as much money as they could.
There were only two more numbers to go and instead of being tired like I had expected I would be, I was amazingly energized. It must have been the adrenaline pumping through my veins. The next song was "Hey Mickey" which Liz was performing. She was dressed in a cheerleading uniform with the pom poms and everything, while Lucky had on a football uniform and looked like he had just stepped off the field. Everyone was running around backstage and in and out of the dressing rooms getting ready for the big finale. Dillon and I were in a room that had been converted into a dressing room, getting ready when my mom came back holding a sleeping Emma in her arms.
"She fell asleep about 10 minutes ago. She was fighting it, but couldn't hold out any longer." She said as Dillon took Emma, being careful not to wake her up, and laid her down on the small couch in the corner and covered her up with the jacket to his suit.
"Do you think you and Mac could watch her tonight? Lucy is throwing a big party for everyone who helped and the only way I'll go is if I know she is with you and Mac or Maxie and Kyle, but I don't want to have Maxie worrying about Emma." I asked as I pulled my hair up into a clip and fixed my make-up for the last number.
"We'd love to. Mac had to go realy quick down to the station but I'll stay back here with her while you do the finale." Mom said as I quickly finished my make-up, ran into the joining room and changed before Dillon and I quickly went to leave.
"You're the best mom, I'll see you in a few minutes." I said as I quickly kissed her cheek before we ran out of the room.
"The final numbers are in. Edward get your pen ready." Lucy said as everyone laughed. "Tonight, in just a little over 3 hours, we have managed to raise over $15 million, thanks to the generous price matchings of people yet to be named." She said as everyone laughed again knowing very well who they were.
"It is now time for the finale, and let me tell you we will not disappointed you this year. The performers are very well known and excellent dancers I might add. We are bringing this full circle to the main reason this nurse's Ball was accomplished. Here to dance to "The Time of My Life" is Emily Quartermaine and Nikolas Cassadine.
If anyone had ever seen the movie "Dirty Dancing" and loved the ending then they would have been amazed with this. It was ten times as wonderful and captavating watching Nikolas and Emily up there dancing like they were the only two people in the room. To pay tribute to the movie, all of us who had performed tonight went into the audience and as the song went on more and more people got up and started dancing. It was the perfect ending to the perfect Nurse's Ball.

Chapter 2
"You all did a wonderful job tonight! I would have to say that this was one of the best Nurse's Ball that I have had the pleasure of hosting and for that we are going to celebrate into the early hours of the morning!" Lucy yelled as everyone cheered. "Well I should say you will party till the early morning hours. I on the other hand have to leave, so party extra for me, and have a great time. You all deserve it after what you did tonight." She finished as everyone cheered more and she jumped down off of the chair she was standing on and quickly went from person to person saying goodbye.
"Well I don't know about early morning hours but I'm up for partying right now." Maxie said as she walked up to me.
"Maxie what are you doing here? You should be home resting, you know what the doctor said. You have to take it easy, don't put a lot of stress on your body. Kyle why did you let her stay?" I asked directing my question to Kyle who was standing behind Maxie.
"I told her we should go home, but she wanted to stay, besides physically picking her up and taking her out of here, which I am about to do, I have tried everything else." He said in his defense. I had to give it to him. Maxie was very stubborn and you had to practically move a mountain to change her mind.
"Listen I just wanted to find you and tell you and Dillon goodnight. I am really worn out and ready to go to bed. Stop worrying about me. Gesh, you two need to lighten up." Maxie said laughing at the matching concerned looks on mine and Kyle's faces. "Where is Dillon anyways?"
"He went to call Ned and tell him he won't be in tomorrow. Mom and Mac are watching Emma for the night so this is the first time in forever that we have had time to ourselves. I almost wouldn't know what to do." I said as I looked around for Dillon who was walking towards us trying not to be ran over by the crowd.
"I can think of a few things you two can do." Maxie said as she wiggled her eyebrows up and down.
"Get your mind out of the gutter." I said as I shook my head and laughed.
"Who's bad? What?" Dillon asked as he came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me. Maxie went to say something.
"Nothing, we were just talking." I said as I raised my voice so she wouldn't say anything. "Maxie was just getting ready to leave, but wanted to say bye first."
"Bye, we'll see you guys later." Dillon said as he looked at me "If you are ready then we can go ahead and leave too." Dillon said as Maxie looked from him to me and then back to him.
"Well Dillon, I guess great minds do think alike!" I was just saying the same thing." Maxie said as I rolled my eyes at her.
"Oh just go home." I said playfully.
"Yes please, I'm tired and I'm not the one carrying twins either." Kyle said as he gently pulled on Maxie's arm.
"Ok fine, we're going." She said as she gave me a hug and then kissed Dillon on the cheek before heading out the door.
"I'll probably stop by tomorrow afternoon. That'll give you two plenty of time to get out of bed." She yelled over her shoulder as they walked out of the restaurant.
"Oh my god, she is crazy." I said as I yawned and ran my hand over my face trying to get rid of the tiredness, but it was still there.
"The idea of home and our bed sounds really good right now. I could sleep all day tomorrow if I could." I said as I turned around to face Dillon. I rested my head against his chest and wrapped my arms around him as I snuggled up to him.
"That does sound like a good idea, huh?" He said as he rested his chin on the top of my head. I just nodded. "Ok, lets go." He said as he reached into the front pocket of his jeans and got out his car keys. "How about we leave my car here and I'll come back tomorrow to get it. You shouldn't be driving if you are that tired."
"Whatever you want to do." I said as we walked out of the resaurant. I debated telling everyone we were leaving but I quickly realized that no one would have noticed if we just left. So we got into my car and headed home, the short ride there was quiet and peaceful. It was kind of strange not having Emma in the back talking 50 miles a minute. It was nice but I also missed it at the same time.
"Home sweet home." I said as we walked into the livingroom and I flipped the light on, throwing my car keys onto the little hall-table. "I'm going upstairs to change. Can you get me something to drink before you come up?" I aked as I started to slowly walk up the stairs that wrapped around to the second floor. Beautiful cherry wood stairs and railings, stained to bring out the red tone in the wood.
"How does hot chocolate sound?" Dillon asked as I made it to the top of the stairs. I leaned over the railing and looked down at him.
"Sounds like heaven." I said as I stood back up and walked into our master bedroom. It was spacious but also very small and intimate. I searched through my drawers and found a pair of pajama shorts and one of Dillon's sweaters that I always slept in and some under garments and went into the bathroom and changed. As I was walking out Dillon was coming into the room carefully carrying two cups full of hot chocolate. I walked over to him and kissed him on the lips before I took the mug and walked over to our bed, careful not to spill the hot liquid. I set it down on the little table by the bed and got under the covers. Dillon changed into a pair of boxers and slipped into the bed beside me. I took one more sip before I scooted closer to him and laid my head on his chest.
"Please don't wake me up before noon, ok?" I asked as my eye lids became very heavy. I scooted closer closing all the space between us in an attempt to stay warm.
"Ok, I promise I'll let you sleep in." He said as he ran his fingers through my hair causing me to become even more tired.
"Sorry that I am falling asleep so early on the first night in forever that we had alone." I said as he laughed causing my head to move up and down with the rythem of his laughter.
"It's alright, I'm tired too." Those being the last words I heard him say before I drifted off into a dreamless, peaceful sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~The Next Morning~~~~~~~~~~
"The itsy bitsy spider ran up the water spout...." I could hear someone singing. It sounded like Emma but she was at my moms house. I opened my eyes and sure enough there she was sitting at the foot of our bed with her back facing us watching her favorite sing-a-long tape on our TV.
"Babygirl, how'd you get here?" I asked groggily as I pulled the blankets up closer to my chin and laid my arm back on Dillon's chest. He was still sound asleep.
"Gammy bring me. She getting clothes for me to stay again." She said not breaking her attention from the tape. Just then my mom stuck her head into the room.
"Come on Em, you're gonna wake up mommy and daddy." Mom whispered as she motioned for Emma.
"I'm up." I said startling her.
"Oh, sorry. Emma wanted to stay the night again and I want to take her to the park so we swung by here to get her some clothes. I was going to call you later on, I didn't think you would be up. I'll probably bring her back tomorrow night after dinner. Is that alright?" She asked.
"Yea that's fine. Come here babygurl, give me a kiss bye." I said as I carefully sat up, trying not to wake Dillon up. Emma jumped back up on the bed and made her way into my lap. She stretched her little arms as far around my neck as she could and kissed me goodbye. "Give daddy a kiss. He would be sad if he didn't get one too." I said as I straightened out her pig-tails. She looked so cute with her hair like that.
"Ok, shhhhh." She said as she put her finger up to her lips and slowly crawled over to Dillon. She kissed his cheek and just as she went to pull away she squealed as he threw his arms around her and tickled her.
"You thought I was asleep, huh?" He asked as lifted her into the air above him. She giggled with delight. "Just where do you think your going?"
"To Gammy's house." She said in between fits of laughter.
"What, you don't want to stay here and play with me?" He asked with a hurt expression on his face.
"Don't worry I be back tomorrow. Mommy will be here, she can play with you." She said as she sat on his chest with her knees tucked under her.
"Alright, I guess if mommy will be here I can play with her for today. Have fun babygirl, ok?" He said as he kissed her forehead and she jumped down off the bed.
"Ok!" She said as she ran and turned off the tape she had been watching and ran over to where my mom was still standing by the door. We said bye to my mom and they went downstairs and out the door.
"So..." Dillon said as he pulled me down on top of him "What do you want to do. Looks like I got to play with you today." He said with a laugh. I wrapped my arms around his neck and put my head on his chest listening to his heartbeat.
"How about we just stay like this all day." I said wishing it was possible.
"You won't hear me complaining. But Maxie said she was coming over this afternoon and it is already noon." Dillon said as he ran the tips of his fingers up my spine causing me to shiver.
"Ok, I'm getting up. I'm not sure what Maxie wants to do tonight. I'm guessing Kyle is coming too. How about you run and get some things from the store while I try to clean the house a little?" I asked as I propped myself up on his chest and looked down at him.
"Ok, what do you want me to get?" He asked.
"Well Maxie has been craving those italian ice cups. The lemon flavored ones, so get a few packages of that. Then what ever you want to get for dinner. Oh and get some more Oreo's for Emma!" I said as I got off of him and up out of bed. I walked over to my vanity mirror and pulled my hair up into a pony-tail. I decided to wait until after I got done cleaning to take a shower or I would end up taking two. Dillon got out of bed and ran his hands through his hair before changing and was ready to leave. He kissed me before he left and I set into cleaning the house. Just as I was finished gathering up all of Emma's toys and throwing them into a big toy chest, with the music blasting I managed to hear someone knocking at the door. Little did I know who was on the other side.
Chapter 3
"Hold on, I'm coming!" I yelled as I walked to the front door and adjusted the bandana I had on to keep my hair out of my face. I opened the door and my breath caught in my throat when I saw who it was.
"Hello, Ms. Jones. How are you today?" Lorenzo Alcazar said as he smiled at me and looked behind me and into the house.
"I'm doing fine, may I help you?" I asked uneasily. Lorenzo had never done anything to me other than being nice, but I couldn't help but to think of his brother who had kidnapped Maxie and I nine yeas ago, when ever I saw him.
"Doing some cleaning I see." He said as he noticed my clothes and the broom in my hand. I looked down and suddenly wished that I had changed into something else. I was still weaing my sweat shorts but I had since taken of Dillon's sweater because it was too hot and was now wearing a white tank top. "Is Dillon home? I have a few things I need to talk to him about." He said snapping me out of my thoughts.
"No, he went to the store, but he should be back soon. Would you like to wait?" I asked as I stepped aside to allow him room to come in.
"That would be great." He said as he walked past me and into the livingroom. Luckily that had been the first room I cleaned. He slowly walked around the room looking at all the pictures on the shelves. "Is this your daughter?" He asked as he held up a picture of Dillon and I with Emma. It as her first birthday and we were all covered in chocolate cake and icing. Dillon had went to pick up Emma to clean her up and she had rubbed the chocolate icing all over his cheeks. When everyone started laughing she took that as a good sign and did the same to me before she started clapping. Maxie had been the one who took the picture.
"Yea, that was taken three years ago." He continued to look around at the rest of the pictures before he sat down on the couch. "Can I get you anything? A drink or something." I asked hoping that Dillon would hurry up and get home.
"Water would be great." He said as I went into the kitchen and got him a glass of water.
"You all did a wonderful job last night at the Nurse's Ball." He said as I walked back into the livingroom.
"Thank you, and thanks for donating as much money as you did. It will be put to good use I can assure you that." I said as I handed him his glass just as Dillon walked in the front door with two paper bags in his hands. When he saw Alcazar he stopped dead in his tracks.
"Umm hi, what's going on?" He asked as he shut the door with his foot.
"Mr. Alcazar needs to talk to you." I said with a little annoyance in my voice, that only he could pick up on, as I took the paper bags from him and headed to the kitchen. Dillon walked over and the two shook hands as Dillon sat down on the recliner facing Alcazar.
"I just stopped by to see if I could enlist your services. A few of my men had some rather unfortunate accidents. I need someone who is quick on their feet, and you were the first person I thought of." Alcazar said. I was putting the groceries away but I could hear most of what was being said.
"I'm flattered that you thought that I would be the best man for the job, but I am going to have to decline." Dillon said uneasily.
"Are you sure? The pay would be very generous as you may or may not remember. And it is just running a few errands like before. Nothing big." Alcazar said as he took a drink of his water. Even after Dillon rejected his offer he didn't waver, as if nothing had been said.
"Let's say I did take your offer. What would I be doing?" Dillon said as I became angry and slammed a cabinet door shut causing him to jump in his seat. Alcazar smiled seeing that Dillon's descision might still be changed.
"Delivering packages, holding on to some things for me. Just little things." Alcazar said carelessly.
"Ok, call me or contact me somehow when you need me." Dillon said as the two of them stood up and walked to the door.
"I promise you, your safety and that of your family's will all be ensured." Alcazar said as they shook hands again.
"Thank you." Dillon said with a hint of excitment in his voice as he shut the door. He must have known that I would be upset because he didn't come back into the kitchen for a couple minutes and when he finally did he looked like a deer cuaght in headlights.
"Listen, it is only...."
"Don't talk to me right now, ok. Just turn around and leave." I said with my back to him as I fixed dinner.
"Geogie, it's nothing big. Don't worry." He said as he wrapped his arms around me from behind and kissed my neck. I slammed the spoon down that I was stirring the pasta with and took his arms from around me.
"Don't worry! Don't worry! Dillon you are going back to work for a criminal. You are taking a job that has just been cleared because the idiots before you were killed. And you don't want me to worry?" I said as I raised my voice.
"You heard what he said. It is just running a few errands for him and he said he would make sure we were all safe." Dillon said as he rubbed he temples.
"Dillon, I am not living like Carly and Courtney, always looking over my shoulder waiting for someone with a gun to pop out." I said.
"Georgie that is rediculous. I'm just running packages to people, that is nothing like what Sonny or Jason does. You are over-reacting." He said as he looked angry.
"Listen, Jason had to start out small when he worked for Sonny and then he advanced in what 'jobs' he could do. They all start out on the bottom. I know you Dillon, and I thought you were done with this mob stuff. You won't be able to do these few things for Alcazar and then stop. You will want to move up to prove yourself to him. You are acting just like you did when we were younger. I'm not risking it." I said as I crossed my arms over my chest and stared directly into his eyes.
"Things are different now..."
"You're right. Things are different now. Did you forget about the little four year old girl who would die if anything happend to her daddy." I yelled as I started to cry.
"Nothing is going to happen!" He yelled back at me.
"Fine. You go ahead and tag along with Alcazar, be his little lap dog. I really hope it makes you feel good that what you are doing gets some respect from him, because you just lost it all from me. I hope it is worth it." I said as I walked into the livingroom and grabbed my purse.
"What are you saying?" He asked following me.
"Untill you can get this little obsession with the mob over with I am not putting Emma or myself through that kind of a life. You're on your own." I said as I left him standing there speechless as I slammed the front door behind me.
Chapter 4
"You came back?" Dillon asked hopefully as I walked through the front door to our house.
"Not hardly." I said as I looked him over. He looked miserable, slouched down in the over-stuffed leather recliner Emma and I had bought him last Father's Day. His hair was all messed up, but not like it normally was, now it just looked disheveled. A box of pizza was on the coffee table and a can of beer was sitting on the table beside the recliner. He jumped up when I started to go upstairs.
"Come on Georgie, please! Just come back, come home. I can't stand not having you and Emma here. How is she?" He asked quietly as he followed me into Emma's room. I started pulling outfits out of her closet and drawers and grabbed anything I thought she would need. I gathered everything in my arms and headed to mine and Dillon's room. I was expecting it to be trashed and disorderly but when I walked in I quickly realized that the room had been untouched since we had left over a week ago. Dillon must have noticed my sudden shift as he stood beside me, he stood close enough that his arm grazed mine when he moved, but it still felt like he was a world away from me.
"I haven't been up here since you left. I can't stand the thought of sleeping in our bed without you there with me." He said quietly as he stared at the bed, just as I was doing. I finally pulled my attention from the bed and to him.
"Are you done?" I asked not moving from where I was standing beside him.
"Done what?" He asked.
"Being Alcazar's lap dog?" I asked as I rolled my eyes.
"Georgie it is just a few errands. It is no big deal." He said as he sighed dramatically.
"Well then I am not coming back." I said as I walked over to the bed and laid all of Emma's clothes out as I grabbed the suitcase from under the bed and put it on top and unzipped it. After I put Emma's clothes in, I grabbed some of my own and what I needed from around the room. Dillon just stood there speechless. He didn't say anything until I was heading down the stairs and he raced after me out the door.
"Damn it Georgie, why do you have to be like this?" He shouted after me as I walked away. I had decided to walk to my house from Maxie's, where we were staying, so I could have some time alone. Now I wished I had brought the car. I spun around at his last comment.
"Be like what, Dillon? Like a concerned mother, like someone who is constantly in fear that she is going to get a phone call from my Uncle Tony telling me that you have been hurt or killed." I yelled as Dillon winced.
"You are really making all of this out to be so much more than it really is." He said as I couldn't help but to laugh.
"I don't think I am. I am really afraid for you, but most of all I am afraid for Emma. She thinks you went on a business trip and we are staying with Maxie to help her prepare for the babies coming. She has no idea how much danger her daddy is in. God Dillon, if you won't quit this mob crap for me, then at least do it for Emma. As much as I would hate to do it, I will take her some place far away where none of this can touch her. Do you want her to wonder why her daddy never came home?" I asked angrily as tears streamed down my face.
"Of course I don't." He said as he stared me dead on in the eyes.
"Then prove it and tell Alcazar you are through. Call him right now and tell him." I said as I turned and started walking down the same path I had been down thousands of times before. Dillon followed after me and my breath caught in my throat and I stopped where I was as I saw the gazebo were Dillon had proposed to me some four years earlier. It seemed like an eternity ago.
"Fine I'll call him, but please just..........let me.......please" He said as he came up to me slowly wrapped his arms around me. After some hesitation I followed suit and wrapped my arms around his neck and burried my head in his shoulders finally allowing myself to really cry. Dillon didn't say anything or try to move, he just gently rubbed one hand on my back as the other cupped the back of my head. He kissed my forehead as I pulled back.
"Do you swear you're done?" I asked as he wipped the tears from my face.
"I promise." He said as he lowered his lips to mine in what was surely the most passionate kiss we'd ever shared. All of a sudden I heard a loud noise and Dillon grunted in pain against my lips as I felt his body slam against mine like he had been hit by something. I pulled back and he was leaning against me, his eyes squeezed shut in pain.
"Dillon what's wrong?" I asked as fear washed over me. He tried to say something but he couldn't get the words to come out. My hands slowly slid down his back as he winced in pain. When I pulled my hands back they were covered in blood. "You're shot." I said as he sank to the ground and I went down with him. He laid there with his head in my lap as I frantically called 911.
"This what what you were afraid would happen. You were right. I'm so sorry......" He whispered as his eyes shut and everything became deafly silent.
Chapter 5
"Excuse me, where is my son's room?" I could hear Tracy's destinctive voice yell across the hall.
"Second door on your left, Mrs. Quartermaine." A young volunteer said uneasily. It didn't matter if it was the head of a international company or a young boy. Tracy could intimidate anyone and everyone. She walked in the room with the grace only she could possess.
"My poor baby." She said as she looked at Dillon helplessly as he lay in the hospital bed unaware of what was going on around him. He had been unconscious for hours after they brought him in to the hospital. "What happened Georgianna?" She was the only one who has called me that since I was little. It was weird, but I had come accustomed to her calling me that and it always made me laugh because only she would refuse to call me Georgie because it was lazy.
"We were arguing in the park about Dillon getting out of the mob business when someone shot him." I said numbly.
"The mob? What?" Tracy asked confused as she walked over to the bed and stood across from me. She reached out and ran he hand lightly down the side of Dillon's face and moving a strand of hair out of his eyes before she withdrew her hand as if she was afraid someone would walk in suddenly and catch her showing any type of weakness or vulnerablility.
"Yea, Dillon was doing more jobs for Lorenzo Alcazar. I thought he was through with working for him, but Alcazar came to our house and asked him to help him out and Dillon accepted his offer, even after I told him he would get hurt. God Tracy, the guy before Dillon was killed for some 'unexplainable' reason, but Dillon didn't see it that way. To him it was just a few little meaningless jobs." I said as anger raced through my body setting off all my senses. As much as I didn't want to lay blame, if Dillon would have just listened to me none of this would have happened.
"Lorenzo Alcazar?" Tracy asked shocked.
"Yea, he came to town like a few months before you brought Dillon here and Dillon became mixed up with Alcazar and Faith until I told him that if he didn't get out I would end things between us. He stopped working for him and had lost what seemed to be all ties with Alcazar until about a week or to ago when Alcazar showed up at the house. I know it is weird, but Dillon seemed like he just wanted to prove something to Alcazar, to live up to his expectations. I don't know why?" I said as I looked from Tracy to Dillon who actually looked peaceful on the bed.
"Well when he was young I married a mob boss and Dillon always seemed fascinated with the whole thing. I should have gotten him out of that lifestyle, but you know me. Always wanting to make an extra buck here and there. So I guess I am a big reason for his fixation on the mob." Tracy said as she looked at Dillon helplessly.
"It is all done now, no need to dwell on it." I agreed that she was partly to blame, but we all were partly to blame and I didn't want to upset her further.
"Have they said anything about his condition?" She asked as she held her head up high. I don't care what anyone says, underneath Tracy's tough exterior she is actually very nice and she loves Dillon with such devotion. It took me a long time to see it, but it is there, she just loves him in her own way, one that no one will ever be able to fully understand.
"They said that he lost a large amount of blood. I have already given blood and so has Ned, Emily, Zander, and Kyle. My sister Maxie wanted to, but she is a little over 8 months pregnant with twins and she is on a high allert pregnancy so they wouldn't let her give blood. She was going to though. I know they were saying something about bone marrow and getting all of Dillon's immediate relatives because they are the most likely to be a match. They'll tell you later but my Uncle Tony told me that you and Paul will need to be notified and tested to see if you are a match." I said repeating what I remembered Bobbie and Uncle Tony telling me "I can't believe this is happening." I said as the emotions in me seemed to boil over as tears fell down my face.
"Now Georgianna you know I am not good with emotions. We must be strong and dont worry. Dillon is a strong boy. He has two very strong sets of genes running through his blood, not to mention one of them is Quartermaine genes. Us Quartermaines are fighters and don't give up. Plus I think him growing up with me has thickened his skin." She said as she laughed, trying to lighten the mood. Just then Uncle Tony came in the room.
"Mrs. Quartermaine, we will need you to come down for some testing. We are also going to need to get a hold of Dillon's father. Would you like to call Paul yourself or would you like the hospital to call him?" Uncle Tony said as he looked down at the clipboard he had in his hands.
"Umm that won't be necessary." Tracy said as she looked back down at Dillon. I was caught off-guard.
"What? Why?" I asked as I stood up. "Dillon needs this, I know you and Paul don't get along and you kept Dillon from him, but that is over and Dillon needs this! You can't just......" I said as Tracy raised her hand to silence me.
"Georgianna that isn't what I mean. I meant that we don't need to call because Dillon's father is already in town." She said for the first time in the four years that I've known her, she actually looked uneasy, even ashamed.
"I didn't know Paul was back." Uncle Tony said as he flipped the papers he was looking at over and looked to Tracy.
"He isn't......"
"What?" I asked.
"Paul isn't in town...." Tracy said as I interrupted her again.
"But you just said....." I questioned.
"Just let me finish. I said that Dillon's father is in town, but Paul isn't. Paul isn't Dillon's father." Tracy said sternly, putting on a fake bravado.
"What?" I shouted. I couldn't help it, but Dillon and everyone else has believed that Paul was Dillon's father, no questions asked. This would be really hard for Dillon to process when he gets better and is able to comprehend this whole situation. Everything that he had believed to be true about his father was a lie "If Paul isn't, then who is?" I asked almost afraid of how much the answer could affect everyone's lives.
"Lorenzo Alcazar."
Chapter 6
"What? Lorenzo Alcazar is Dillon's father? How the hell did that happen?" I asked in complete shock.
"When Paul and I were still together I went to South America on business and on the way back my flight was delayed until the following morning. While I was yelling and demanding to be put on the earliest flight out, I met Lorenzo. One thing led to another and the next thing I know I was pregnant and there was no way it was Paul's child. Luckily no one questioned me and I used my being pregnant as leverage to keep Paul. He was so caught up in Jenny that he didn't really stop to do the math because if he would have, he would have figured it out. But I changed the dates around a little to cover myself. One lie turned into five and the next thing I knew I was too far into this facade that I just kept to it. I never imagined I would be forced to reveal all of this to save my sons life." Tracy said as she looked at me. I didn't know what to do or say. I was speechless and completely unable to think straight. I eased myself into the chair beside Dillon's bed when my knees felt like rubber.
This was huge.....no this was monumental! Dillon grew up thinking his father didn't want anything to do with him, when infact Paul tried to get to Dillon numerous times. Now we are being told that a man who Dillon knows and has lived near for the last seven years is his father, unbeknownst to anyone. Lorenzo Alcazar, a hardened national criminal is Dillon's father, my soon-to-be father-in-law and Emma's grandfather.
Then as if on-cue, Lorenzo walked into the room without, what looked to be, a care in the world. He stopped at the foot of Dillon's bed and turned to me.
"Ms. Jones, I was just informed by one of my men of Mr. Quartermaine's unfortunate accident. I usually don't visit any of my men in the hospital but I feel I should give my condolences to you in person." Lorenzo said in his thick accent that only he seemed to possess.
"If I didn't know what I do, and if I didn't know how much Dillon's life is depending on you right now I would ask you to leave. And for some reason I am not flattered by your presence." I said in disgust. Because of this man, Dillon is practically fighting for his life.
"All the same, I will make sure that the hospital expenses and everything else is taken care of. If there is anything you and your family need don't hesitate to ask." He said with a smug smile like he had just given every last penny he had to some homeless man and now wanted a pat on the back.
"Your money will not be needed but there is one thing that my family and I need that only you could give us." I said as I got up from the chair I was sitting in and crossed my arms over my chest.
"And what might that be? I'd be more than happy to help."
"When Dillon is released and goes home, I would really appreciate it if you never ask him to do any of your jobs ever again. For some reason Dillon really looks up to you and I know you two wouldn't be able to avoid each other in this town. All I am asking is that if the two of you ever run into each other on the streets, say your hellos and move on. Don't drag him into your world. Don't drag him down with you. I may not look very intimidating but I put up one hell of a fight for what matters to me. Dillon and my daughter's safety matter to me more than anything else in this world. If you ever put him or my daughter in danger again, I will be one hell of a force to be reckoned with. Faith aint got nothing on me." I said as I stared him straight in the eyes.
"I always have admired you Ms. Jones. You have fierce determination and a strong devotion to your family. That is something I can understand for I am the same way. And don't worry, I got a new man today and won't be needing Mr. Quartermaine's asisstance anymore. I have always been very fond of the two of you. I doubt you know this, but you and your family has remained under my protection over the years. I promised Dillon I would protect you two when you were younger and I don't break my promises. I hope you can see that I am not as bad as you may think I am." Even though I didn't want to, I felt kind of bad. Lorenzo had been making sure no harm came to us for the last six years. But Dillon was still lying in this hospital bed.
"As I said earlier, I am not flattered nor am I impressed." I said as he nodded and smiled as he turned to leave, noticing for the first time since he came in that Tracy and Uncle Tony were still in the room. He stopped infront of Tracy.
"Do we know each other?" He asked
"I'm afraid so. Nigeria National Airport, January 19, 1984." Tracy said with a wave of her hand.
"Ahh yes, Ms. Hornsby. I never forget a pretty face." Lorenzo said flirtasciously.
"I no longer go by that name. You may call me Mrs. Quartermaine." Tracy said.
"Are you of any relation to Dillon, Mrs. Quartermaine?" He asked as he pointed to where Dillon was sleeping.
"As a matter of fact, he is my son. Of which I need to talk to you. I am glad you came here, I was getting ready to call you before you walked in." She said as she sat down in one of the chairs by the little table positioned in the corner.
"Well I am happy to hear that you were thinking of me."
"Save it, I was going to call you on behalf of Dillon. I am afraid we need you to take some tests." I guess Tracy was going to get right to the point. She wasn't one to beat around the bush.
"I am going to leave you all alone. Please have me contacted when you all are ready to be tested." Uncle Tony said as he rubbed his hand reassuringly on my back before exiting the room. I sat back down and took Dillon's hand as Lorenzo spoke.
"I am afraid you have lost me." He said as he sat down in the other chair at the table and brushed off the imaginary flint on his taylored suit.
"My son, Dillon, is a direct result of the night we met. I found out I was pregnant shortly after I got back. Dillon is your son and he needs your help." Tracy said sternly.
"Wait, I am sorry but I believe you are mistaken....."
"I know this is sudden, unexpected, and being done in bad taste but that is the least of my concerns right now. You can get a DNA test ran if you want, but I guarantee you the results will be positive. The point is, Dillon IS your son, will you help him?" She said with her fists clenched in her lap. Tracy hated relying on other people, especially over something as big as this, but she knew she had to do it.
"Forgive me for not being overjoyed, I am just in shock. I will help in anyway I can reguardless of wether he is my son or not. Does he know about this?" Lorenzo asked
"No, Dillon has no idea!" Tracy whispered as we all watched Dillon, relying on the constant beeping of the machines and the rythmic rise and fall of his chest under the sheets to tell us he was still ok.
Lorenzo looked over at Dillon. I was wathching him and I could see a change in his eyes. He had always cared for Dillon, I can give him that. But now there was a new depth to his stare. Like he was seeing everything for the first time. All of a sudden he had a grown-up son who himself had a daughter of his own. He had an instant family and one of them was seriously hurt. I was really sad when I saw the look in his eyes. It was a look of sorrow and pain from the lack of time he had had with Dillon, but there was also joy and what looked like a new-found life. Now the question remained: Would Lorenzo or any of us be able to help Dillon in the biggest fight of his life? All of a sudden Dillon looked like a little boy lying under the sheets, hooked up to all the monitors. He looked so small and helpless.
Chapter 7
Everyone had left a few hours ago, leaving me to the silence of the room. I sat there still holding onto Dillon with my forehead resting on the bed by our joined hands. There was nothing that I, or anyone else could do right now, so I just remembered all of the wonderful times that Dillon and I had shared.
Flashback
"Dillon, where are you taking me?" I asked as I sat in the passenger seat of what I was sure was Ned's car.
"Ok, if I haven't told you yet, do you really think I'm going to tell you now?" Dillon laughed as he looked at me briefly before returning his concentration to the road.
It was a beautiful, but very cold December night, and Christmas was only a week away. Snow was lightly falling to the ground outside. The heater in the car was on high but I still couldn't get warm. Dillon reached behind his seat and grabbed a small blanket and tossed it to me, in which I wrapped it around me, pulling my knees to my chest trying to keep every bit of my body heat in. It was a little after 11 on a Friday night. Mac was away until Tuesday on a trip to a convention on behalf of the PCPD, and Maxie and Kyle were out somewhere in Port Charles doing lord knows what. Dillon, Maxie and Kyle had all graduated last year and I was now in my junior year. Even though we didn't get to see each other everyday at school, Dillon made it a point to meet me for breakfast in the mornings before school and after to take me home. Right now, though, I didn't have a clue as to where we were, but I did know that we had left Port Charles a long time ago.
"Are we there yet?" I whinned in a childish voice as I rested my head on my knees, giggling.
"Indeed we are, my lady. Look!" Dillon said as he pulled the car to a stop and pointed out my window. I turned my head and was blown away at what I saw. The most gorgeous cottage I had ever seen was lit with tons of white lights. All the lights inside were on and smoke was barreling out of the chimney from what obviously was a fireplace, inside. It looked like it belonged on the cover of a magazine
"Dillon, what is this?" I asked as I turned back to him.
"This," he said motioning to the cottage "is where we are going to have the perfect weekend. It is a cottage that my mom owns and seemed to have forgotten about." He said as he got out of the car and came around and opened my door helping me out. My foot hit a patch of ice as I stood up but Dillon steadied me with his arm around my waist. "Walk much, slick?" He teased as I lightly smacked his hand that was on my hip.
"This is so wonderful, but how am I going to explain all of this to Mac?" I asked as we reached the door and Dillon unlocked it holding the door for me so I could enter the warm, apple-cinnamon cented livingroom.
"You underestimate my abilities." He said as he grabbed at his chest like he was hurt. "I made a deal with Maxie." He said as he shut the front door and walked towards me.
"How did you manage that?" I asked as I snuck my arms into his unzipped jacket and hugged myself close to him feeling the warmth coming from him. I rested my head on his chest waiting for him to continue.
"That was easy. I told her that if she covered for you, then she would get the whole house to herself. In which she agreed and said that she would just tell Mac you were in the shower when he called." He said as he pulled my toboggan off my head and ran his hands threw my hair.
"I think he might get suspicious when I am in the shower every time he calls." I said matter-of-factly as I looked up at him.
"She's going to call you and then you'll just call him from your cell. Don't worry." He said as he kissed the tip of my nose before he pulled away and took his jacket off and hung it on the coat rack by the door. He hung mine up and then gave me a 'tour' of the cottage. It was cozy with one bedroom, a den-like livingroom with a fireplace, a small kitchen and a little dinning room that had been converted into a small room that held a beautiful ever-green christmas tree decorated in all-white lights and ornaments.
"I'll go get our bags from the car." He said as he pulled his coat back on and headed back out side.
I walked back over to the christmas tree and noticed french doors behind it. I walked over and opened them up revealing a small wooden balcony made of beautiful, deep red cherry wood with lights all around it, casting it in a soft glow as it over-looked a solid sheet of ice that had once been a lake before the winter cold hit. I leaned against the railing and looked out at the surroundings, noticing how bright the stars were and how quiet everything was. All that could be heard was the occasional animal calling out or the wind rushing through the trees. It was really cold and the snow continued to fall lightly around me but I couldn't get myself to go back inside. It was too beautiful.
"I thought I might find you out here." Dillon said as he came up behind me and rested his arms on either side of me, on the railing, as I leaned back against him. "Beautiful isn't it?" He asked as he rested his chin on my shoulder before lightly kissing my neck.
"Yes it is." I said as I turned around and wrapped my arms around his neck, trying to close any gap between us. Dillon realized how cold I was and pulled me close wrapping his jacket around me, enclosing me inside the jacket with him. I tried to hide the yawn that was threatening to come out but I was unsuccessful.
"Tired?" He asked as he held my head in his hands and looked in my eyes.
"I am really sorry, I know you probably had this all planned out, but I can barely keep my eyes open." I said as I twirled his short hair between my fingers, playing with the hair on he back of his neck..
"Are you kidding, I am exhausted." He said as he pulled me back into the cottage. He handed me my bag and I went into the bathroom and changed into my pajamas which consisted of flannel bottoms, a tank top and a hoodie of Dillon's. I pulled my hair into a sloppy ponytail, washed my face, brushed my hair and teeth and was done. Luckily I had taken a shower after I got home from school earlier today. I walked into the bedroom only to find Dillon fast asleep on top of the covers. I don't know how he did it, but he managed to stay warm in nothing but pajama pants while I was in pajama pants, tank top and a sweatshirt, freezing. Dillon and I had never made love or even slept in the same bed, but I felt completely comfortable slipping under the covers beside him. He too, got under the covers and wrapped one arm around me and pulled us closer together as he laced his fingers with mine and pulled my into his chest.
"Thanks for sleeping with me." He whispered as we both laughed at his comment and the double meaning it could hold.
"Thanks for not pressuring me to." I said as I pulled the blankets up around us with my other hand. I snuggled closer to him and seemed to almost form or mold to his body, like we fit perfetly with each other.
"I am the happiest guy in the world just being able to go to sleep and wake up with you in my arms. Right now, nothing could be better. We'll both know when it is right, but for right now I just want to hold you while I go to sleep." He said sounding like he would fall asleep at any second.
"Goodnight, I love you." I whispered. I wasn't even sure if he heard me, until he finally spoke up.
"I love you too." He said as he kissed the back of my head and we both got comfortable before succoming to a peaceful dreamless sleep. I was completely comfortable.
Chapter 8
"Any change?" Maxie asked as her and Kyle walked into the hospital room.
"Nope, everything is still the same. But Bobbie was in here earlier and she said that he was responding to light well. She even did this one thing were she would apply preasure to his hand or foot and see how his reflexes worked. He responded but nothing has happened." I said. It had been three days since he was shot and it seemed like no progress had been made. Lorenzo had stopped by quite a few times and each time I reluctantly left the room. A rush had been put on the results of the DNA test they had ran and the results came back this morning.
"The results came back." I said with much lack of enthusiasm.
"And....?" Kyle asked as he leaned forward resting his elbows on his knees.
"Lorenzo IS Dillon's father. They said the results are 99.99% accurate. Guess how many times I have thought about having the test redone?" I asked as I looked over to where Maxie and Kyle were sitting.
"Probably a thousand and one." Maxie said with a small laugh.
"Not once. Can you believe it? I have not once hoped the results were different."
"But I thought you didn't want Alcazar to be Dillon's father. With all the stuff he has done and everything." Maxie said concerned.
"Yea, I keep telling myself that, but in all honesty, Lorenzo isn't as bad as anyone or even I have thought he is. Yesterday he came to see Dillon and I left the room but I listened at the door. I know I shouldn't have, but I just couldn't help it. He just sat in here in silence for the longest time. I was just about to leave when he started to talk." I said as tears started to rapidly fall from my eyes. "He told Dillon how sorry he was that he didn't know about him. He said that he was so angry at himself letting Dillon have any part in the mob. He talked to him about Emma and I, and how he had always watched out for us no matter what. Maxie, he did all of that for no reason. No ulterior motives or anything like that. He didn't know that he was his father then. And he still didn't know for sure, but he just sat in here and talked to him about his whole life. As if Dillon was going to respond." I said as I was now cryinig harder.
"Georgie, I am so sorry." Maxie said as she eased herself up out of her chair and came over to me and pulled me up into a hug. She just held me and let me cry.
"He asked Dillon questions about me and Emma, and how Emma was when she was growing up. He would sit there for a few seconds and then continue on with another question or another story. He didn't know the results, and for all he knew Dillon wasn't his son, but he didn't care. I swear, I thought he was going to break down when they told him the results. He was standing beside Dillon on the other side of the bed from me."
"The results are in." Uncle Tony said as he walked into the room. I was sitting in the chair beside Dillon's bed, holding his hand and involuntarily squeezed it trying to get some kind of responce. Uncle Tony looked back and forth between Lorenzo and I before continuing when Lorenzo knodded his head. "Congratulations, you now have a much bigger family. Dillon is infact your son."
"Thank you very much, but I didn't need a piece of paper to tell me that. I think I have known it all along, I just didn't stop to listen to myself." Lorenzo said as his voice cracked and he lightly touched Dillon's arm. He cleared his thought quickly. "I am afraid I need to go, but I will be back later. Will you please excuse me?" Lorenzo said as he put his suit jacket back on. He had been here for a while and had long since taken the jacket off.
"Yea, sure." I said meakly, trying to register everything.
"Thank you, and please call me if there are any changes what-so-ever. My cell phone number is right by the phone."
"Yes I know." I said as he walked to the door and looked back at Dillon once more. Maybe it was just my imagination, but as he tuned his head back around I could have sworn I saw a tear in the corner of his eye. Maybe he wasn't that bad.
"Wow, talk about intense." Kyle said.
"Yea, as much as I would rather it be someone else, Dillon needs a father. He needs someone who will just sit in here like Lorenzo did, and talk about anything that came to mind. I'm just afraid of how Paul is going to take all of this." I said for the first time thinking of the man who was supposedly Dillon's father. He was completely clueless.
"You don't worry about, Paul. You worry about yourself and Emma, and about what you all are going to do once Dillon is out of here." Maxie said as she absent-mindedly rubbed her hands over her swollen belly.
"I'll bake a cake." I said as I laughed.
"What?" Maxie and Kyle both asked at the same time.
"I never told you about Dillon's fiasco that involved Emma and a cake?" I asked as they looked at me dumbfounded.
"No!" They said in unison again, but this time with huge smiles on their face as the waited for me to tell them what happened.
"Well, I went out for a walk one day and Dillon decided he wanted to make a cake...."
I had just returned home from my daily walk and when I walked into the house to loud music. It took me a while for me to realize the song but it was "Good Vibrations" by Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch. "What...?" I said to myself as I walked through the livingroom and into the kitchen. I stopped mid step and hid behind the wall so Dillon wouldn't see me. Emma was standing in her Pak-N-Play in the middle of the kitchen while Dillon danced around her causing her to giggle uncontrolably at the site of her father. As Dillon danced around her I got a good look at what he was wearing. He had a big chefs hat on that bounced up and down as he did, and he had an apron on that said "Kiss The Cook" across the front of it.
"You want to help daddy make the chocolate cake, babygirl?" Dillon asked as Emma shook her head wildly and she opened her arms so he would pick her up. Dillon lifted her up into the air and flew her around like an airplane for a few seconds before he stood her up on the counter top. He held onto her hands as she twisted from side to side dancing. "That's my girl." Dillon yelled as flour that was on the counter, under her feet flew everywhere.
Dillon stirred together all of the ingredients to the cake as Emma sat on the counter top playing in the flour, which she was now practically covered in.
"Daddy!" She shrieked as Dillon jerked his head to her direction. She took the opportunity and threw a handful of flour at him, giggling as it fell around him and in his hair like snow. He just laughed as she clapped her hands sending more flour flying.
"You little sneak, you just wait till your mommy gets home and sees what a mess we made." The song had since ended and was replaced by 'Baby Got Back' Dillon showed Emma how to stick her finger in the cake batter and lick it off as the intro to the song came on.
"Oh my God, Becky look at her butt it is soo big." Dillon said to Emma in a girly voice as started tickling her. I decided now was the best time to let my presence be known.
"Is this really what you teach our daughter when I am not around?" I yelled over the music as Dillon stopped quickly and stood straight up as he looked to where I was standing. Emma was still sitting on the counter playing in the flour, and not the cake, as if I hadn't even entered the room.
"Umm, I was just...ummm...I wanted to make a cake for you but....things got a little out of hand...wow, how about them Yankees." Dillon said as he crossed his arms over his chest trying to look serious and change the subject. I tried my best to look mad as I walked up to him.
"You got a little flour in your hair." I said as I started laughing. I just couldn't keep a straight face. The big chef's hat that he had on covered most of his hair, but what wasn't cpvered was now white. Plus he had flour and cake mix on his cheeks.
"Mommy look!" Emma shouted as we both turned our attention to her. She had stuck her whole hand in the cake mix and put hand prints all over the flour covered counter tops. As well as all over herself. I looked back to Dillon and raised my eyebrows in fake suprise.
"I'll....I'll get that cleaned up." Dillon said nervously as he picked up Emma tried to dust her off.
"Have fun!" I said as I walked out of the kitchen laughing.
"OMG, you're joking right?" Maxie asked as she laughed hysterically.
"Good Vibrations?" Kyle asked shaking his head. "Dillon, man do I have a lot to teach you." He said as we all laughed.
"No lie, I swear. The kitchen, himself, and Emma were covered in flour and chocolate cake mix. It took him about three hours to clean everything up." I said as I laughed so hard I was in tears.
"Oddly enough, that doesn't suprise me coming from him." Maxie said.
"Yea, he has done some pretty crazy things...."
