Lila (Morgan) Quartermaine – Grandmother of Jason Morgan and Emily Cassadine among others. Will appear in flashbacks.

Luke Spencer – Owner of Luke’s a blue’s club and world wide roamer. Married to Laura Spencer, they got remarried while she is recovering from her mental breakdown. Father to Lucky and Lulu Spencer and as hard as he tries not to be step-father to Nikolas Cassadine. Also, feels a fatherly duty to Elizabeth.

Carly Benson Spencer Quartermaine Corinthos – Ex-wife of Sonny Corinthos. Mother of Michael Corinthos III and Morgan Corinthos, who she currently is not allowed to see. Daughter of Bobbie Spencer.

Courtney Matthews Quartermaine – Ex- wife of AJ Quartermaine. Disowned sister of Sonny Corinthos. Currently living with her Father in Miami.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Disclaimers: I don’t own General Hospital or any of their characters. Any character’s I choose to make up and bring into the fold so to speak are a product of my imagination. I am just a poor woman who has to entertain herself somehow and this is what I choose. Also, I know nothing about medicine so please forgive the freehand I take with medical things. If there is something too off the wall either laugh or if you feel the need let me know.

Rating: Somewhere between PG & R just depends on where things lead.

Author’s Note: This story is set approximately a year and a half after the whole Sonny is not dead after all Jason/Elizabeth blow up.

A few things that are changed from before that are as follows:

Jax wasn’t the one who brought Kristina to town. He just sent her to Alexis. He and his wife V live in Australia with their son.

Alexis left town and hasn’t been found since Carly pulled her driving off the cliff thing. Kristina therefore wasn’t killed by a bomb as she was off somewhere with Ned not worried about Sonny.

Sonny found Carly and not too long after they reconciled discovered it was a scheme to break Alexis and he apart. Unfortunately despite the fact that Sonny came to his senses and kicked Carly to the curb Alexis was already gone. Carly gave birth to their son Morgan and Sonny has custody of both Michael and Morgan.

As far as Jason & Elizabeth they were a bit more together than the show had them. They had been getting serious and discussing making her move in permanent before the faked death fiasco.


Chapter 1

As Elizabeth watched Kristin and Lila sleeping curled together she smiled. Looking up as she heard the door open she put her finger to her lips and signaled to be quiet. Smiling she walked to the visitor and wrapped her arms around him in a hug. “Let’s go out to the kitchen for a brownie.”

“Things have really changed haven’t they! I mean who would’ve thought you and I would be sitting her having a brownie toast listening to babies sleeping on a monitor.”

“Or that you would elope with one of Port Charles finest and be afraid to go home.” As they both laughed they heard the laughter of a third person join them. “Hey, Em! Sorry to be monopolizing your new husband.”

Making herself comfortable on Nik’s lap Emily smiled at her best friend. “Not a problem. I know he is anxious about facing the family when we return. It was easy coming here to tell Alexis, but Grandfather is sure to cause a scene. Plus, we got the added bonus of seeing you.”

“I am so glad that we got to catch up. I know you don’t understand why I left or why I am not sure about going back, but I never wanted to lose touch with you.”

“I know that Elizabeth. And I know I wasn’t in the best place when everything was happening. And you did stay in touch at first. It was both of us that got busy with life. No more, though. I’ve got a beautiful niece and cousin to keep up on and I expect you and Alexis to send pictures all the time.”

Yawning Elizabeth realized how late it was, “I promise and now I must get to bed before Lila gets me up.”

Alexis and Elizabeth quietly drove toward home after dropping Nikolas and Emily off at the jet. Elizabeth wondered if Alexis wanted to talk about the comments the newly married couple had made before departing. “I know she means well, but I am not sure if taking Lila to see Jason would be a good idea. I mean you know he will be furious when he finds out I had his child and didn’t tell him.”

“I don’t think I would be good at advising you since I am doing the same to Sonny. God, why did we get involved with them? Like mother, like daughter even when we didn’t know, eh.”

Alexis’ last comment caused Elizabeth to laugh finally breaking the tension they had been feeling. Elizabeth was glad Emily had kept her observations about the parentage of the little girls to herself until the end of the trip or it could have been very uncomfortable. She should’ve known that Emily would see Lila’s resemblance to her father. And now she was making Emily keep something from Jason. It was only going to get worse if she didn’t come clean. At least according to Emily there wasn’t a woman with Jason right now, so she wouldn’t have to be facing any blonde bimbos.

“Lana really wanted us to meet the latest client in person, so I guess we could go back to Port Charles for that and settle things.”

“OH! I didn’t mean you had to do this too. Alexis, you don’t have any reason to trust Sonny and I won’t have you and Kristin in danger. My situation is a bit more complicated since I am best friends with my ex’s sister.”

“Elizabeth, I am coming with you and if you can do it I can do it. Besides, I am sure it will be interesting watching people find out about all your new found family.”

Smiling Elizabeth thought back to the day she was told she was a Cassadine. Tiana Cassadine, to be exact.

Elizabeth wasn’t sure how she had ended up here in New York City, but she knew it would only be a matter of time before someone realized she was missing and looked for her. Sitting in a café drinking hot chocolate and trying not to cry over a man who apparently was not only lying to her, but cheating on her as well Elizabeth didn’t realize someone was approaching her table until it was too late.

“Elizabeth?”

Elizabeth looked up into the shocked eyes of Ned Ashton. “Ned?”

“Can we sit with you?” He gestured between Kristina Cassadine and himself.

“Umm…Sure.”

“Are you alright?”

Elizabeth felt the tears start down her cheeks before she could even respond. As she tried to stand from the table she became dizzy and that was all she remembered until she woke up looking into Kristina Cassadine’s eyes. “I…I…”

“You are at the hospital. I am glad to see you are awake.”

“How long?” Coughing at the dryness in her throat Elizabeth was relieved when Kristina held a cup of water for her. After taking a couple of sips she tried again. “How long was I out?”

“About an hour, Ned just went to call Monica.”

“No. I need to go. I am sorry. Thanks for the help, but I have to leave.” As Elizabeth tried to get out of the bed she felt the room spin around her.

“Whoa, easy. I’ve got you. What’s wrong?”

“I told her you were calling Monica and she started panicking. I didn’t mean to upset her.”

“It’s okay. It seems that Elizabeth left town without telling anyone. So you want to tell us what’s going on?”

Elizabeth felt trapped and angry at their presumption that they had a right to know anything. “Not really, I am a grown woman and if I decide I want to move on with my life I don’t need to notify anyone.”

Kristina wanted to smack Ned upside his head. True Quartermaine style of interrogation full frontal assault and now Elizabeth wasn’t likely to talk to them. “Ned, I think maybe you need to go find a doctor for us and see if we can help get Elizabeth out of here.” Seeing he was going to argue Kristina kissed him and turned him toward the door. “Thanks honey.”

As Ned headed out the door Elizabeth couldn’t help the smile on her face. She didn’t think she had seen anyone pull something like that on Ned ever. “I am still not telling you anything. I don’t even really know you.”

“Hey, I didn’t ask. I just want to make sure you are okay.”

“I’m fine. Just need to get out of here and decide where I am headed.”

“Well, maybe I can help with that. Ned was telling me about how you used to be Chloe’s assistant and I am looking for an assistant.”

“I am not going back to Port Charles.”

“That’s good since the job is here in New York City. We just got a new studio space here for L&B and we are moving up here. We think it would be nice to be closer to Brooklyn and farther from the rest of the clan on a day to day basis.”

“Oh, well, umm…”

“Ms. Webber, I have been notified of your test results if you would like to go over them and then we can sign the release paperwork as long as you have someone to stay with for the next 24 hours.”

“Umm…”

“She will be staying with us Doctor, so that’s not a problem. I will be waiting outside.”

“Wait, umm…can you stay with me?”

“Are you sure?”

Elizabeth nodded and Kristina sat back down next to her bed. “Ok, Doctor, what tests did you do?”

“We did some blood work and well…your friends weren’t sure so we did a pregnancy test.”

As Elizabeth paled Kristina reached for her hand. “Am I?”

“Ms. Webber, I hope you are happy to learn that you are pregnant.”

Elizabeth was struck silent and unresponsive. “Doctor, I think she is just shocked at the news. Is there anything else she should know?”

“Well, her blood work didn’t match her file, so I updated it. The thing is she has a very rare blood type and well frankly I am confused about how she didn’t know it.”

Kristina’s interest was peaked and so she held her hand out for the paperwork. “I am sure she will get that checked out as soon as possible.” A quick glance down caused her to become still and stare at the paperwork. The date of birth and the blood type stared out of the page at her. “It can’t be.”

“I am sorry, Miss.”

“Uh…nothing. I will make sure she goes over this as soon as she can. Is there anything I need to know to watch for tonight?”

“Just make sure she rests and if she starts getting dizzy again watch her carefully. If it happens too often bring her back in. Would you like me to send in a Nurse to help her?”

“No, I will be fine.” Both the doctor and Kristina looked at her as she suddenly came back into the conversation. “What do I need to sign?”

As Elizabeth sank into the backseat of Ned’s car she sighed. Who would’ve imagined Elizabeth Webber pregnant with Jason Morgan’s child? Now what was she going to do? There was no way she would slink back into Port Charles and be an obligation to Jason Morgan. No, she would take the job Kristina offered and she would find a way to take care of herself and her child. Rubbing her stomach she missed Kristina looking back at her frequently.

After making sure Elizabeth had everything she needed Kristina crossed the suite and grabbed the medical records the doctor had given her for Elizabeth. Checking to make sure Ned was still occupied with a conference call Kristina walked out on the balcony and placed a call she never imagined making.

Elizabeth woke up to a gentle knocking on her door. “Yes.”

Kristina poked her head in the door and smiled. “Hey, sorry to wake you, but I wondered if I could talk to you for a moment?”

Elizabeth scooted up to lean against the head board. “Sure. Is this about the job? I mean the offer is still good?”

Kristina sat next to Elizabeth and touched her leg. “Elizabeth, if you still want the job after I talk to you it’s yours.”

Elizabeth studied Kristina’s anxious face. “Okay, what do you need to talk about?”

“I apologize ahead of time if you feel like I violated your privacy, but I hope you’ll hear me out. The doctor gave me your medical records showing there were some problems with your blood type and some other information. Elizabeth, something jumped out at me when I got a look at the paperwork.” Seeing how puzzled Elizabeth was looking Kristina sighed. “I am just going to say it straight out. Elizabeth your parents aren’t your parents.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I have a friend who works getting information and I had her run some tests on your blood work. You are a match for a baby girl that went missing 23 years ago. You are Tiana…”

“NO, I AM ELIZABETH. WHAT ARE YOU…” Elizabeth tried to stand but the damn room was spinning again.

“Elizabeth, I am sorry. Calm down please. Elizabeth the baby, you have to calm down.”

Ned rushed in and looked between the two women. “What’s going on?”

“Your girlfriend has gone crazy!” Elizabeth had calmed some, but she was still agitated.

“Elizabeth, I am so sorry. I didn’t know how to tell you. Please just let me tell you. If you want you can get other tests done to find out for yourself.”

“Oh, trust me I will find out the truth. Why do you think I am this Tiana? What would even make you think of her?”

“Tiana? Kristina that is impossible, she died.”

“No, she didn’t. Helena made her disappear and we couldn’t find proof of her alive so we all assumed she died.”

“HELLO, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? HELENA DID WHAT WITH TIANA AND WHO IS SHE?”

Kristina and Ned both looked at Elizabeth. “Ned, I had V do the tests. She is positive. I sent her to find…”

“If I don’t get answers right now I am out of here.”

Kristina looked at a now standing Elizabeth and started to panic. She couldn’t leave, if she did and something happened Alexis would kick her ass. “Elizabeth, you were born Tiana Cassadine. You are Alexis’ daughter.”

Chapter 2

Elizabeth sat staring out the window while gently rubbing Lila’s back. Lila hadn’t been pleased with the airplane ride and in her typical fashion had let everyone know about it. Elizabeth finally got her settled and sleeping about half way to Port Charles, but now was using her as a barrier to anyone talking to her. She couldn’t help but wonder if she was really doing the right thing. No matter how she told Jason he was going to go ballistic that he had a daughter and didn’t know. Why did she have to fall in love with him? Emily had kept trying to talk about Jason until Elizabeth told her flat out she didn’t want to hear about him at all. Now she was regretting that decision, wasn’t it her business to discover all she could about the person she was going up against. Stupid, Elizabeth this is just what you tell clients not to do go into a situation unprepared.

“Elizabeth, I am taking Lila and laying her down with Kristin. It’s time to talk you’ve obsessed alone enough.” Alexis eased her granddaughter from her daughter’s arms and quietly walked over to lay Lila down. As she turned she saw the tension in Elizabeth’s body had increased. Sitting next to Elizabeth she placed her hand on Elizabeth’s tightening fist. “Elizabeth, we don’t have to do this. I can call Lana and tell her the client will have to deal with her and we can fly home.”

Elizabeth couldn’t stop the panic, @#%$ this hadn’t happened in a long time.

“Come on, sweetheart you’ve got to wake up and stop the girls’ worrying.”

Elizabeth could swear she heard Nikolas’ voice. What was he doing on the plane? Wait, something soft was under her.

As her hands explored the bed one of them was gently taken by Emily. “Liz?”

Groaning at the pain of the bright lights Elizabeth snapped her eyes closed. “Too…Too…Too Bright.”

“Elizabeth, thank God.”

“Where?”

“Hey, take it easy. We thought we were going to have to get a doctor you were out so long.”

“@#%$, it happened again. Wait were is Lila? Is she okay?”

“Whoa, Elizabeth you need to…”

“Elizabeth, I’ve got Lila right here. Don’t worry she is fine and you know I would take care of her. You need to calm down and breathe.”

As Elizabeth tried to calm herself down Alexis ushered Nikolas and Emily out the door, “sorry, but it needs to be this way. Sometimes she wakes up agitated and paranoid it’s better if there are fewer people around. I am going to take Lila to her and get her calmed down. We will meet you downstairs, if you wouldn’t mind keeping an eye on Kristin.” Seeing them both nod yes quickly Alexis slowly closed the door and made her way over to Elizabeth. “Baby girl look who’s awake. See Elizabeth Lila is happy and none the wiser. You just concentrate on her and come back to us okay.”

Nikolas and Emily looked up as the heard voices in the hallway. “You think everything is okay?” Nikolas nodded positively and squeezed Emily’s hand. “I’ve never seen her look like that Nikolas, I am worried. Maybe I shouldn’t have pressed her to come back. I don’t want her hurt just because I think my brother and her deserve a chance to work things out.”

“Emily, I will be fine. Well, at least as long as you don’t try and play matchmaker with your brother. I am sorry I scared you, I should’ve been talking my concerns out with Alexis and I didn’t. If you promise to let me handle things with Jason and trust me to do things like I need to I promise to keep Alexis’ ear talked off.” Seeing smiles all around the room Elizabeth felt the warmth of a true family. “So now I need a favor from you Nikolas. Do you mind me borrowing your wife for a while?”

“Elizabeth, you don’t have to ask to spend time with Emily. I mean we are all family, right.” Nikolas’ grin was infectious and soon the whole room was grinning like mad. “Now if you don’t mind I think I will go do some work and let you girls do your thing.” With a sweet kiss to his wife Nikolas was gone.

“You’ve done good with him, Em.”

Laughing Em watched Lila playing with her mom’s hair. “Do you think I could hold her?”

“Em, I want you to get to know Lila. You are her aunt and I want her to be close with her family.”

Emily smiled happily as she cuddled her niece into her arms and started playing with her hands. “Is she trying to walk yet?”

“Oh yeah, if you don’t watch it she will have everything pulled off every table she can reach. She goes from table or chair or whatever she can use to hold onto and walk.”

“So what did you want to borrow me for?”

Elizabeth’s smile dimmed, “I was hoping you could take me to the Rose Garden at the Quartermaine estate. I know that’s not where she’s buried, but I would really like to go and show Lila her great-grandmother’s favorite place.”

A tear rolled down Emily’s cheek as she saw the pain in Elizabeth’s face. “You know that she told me you’d come home when it was time. I went to see her at the hospital right before she died and she said you tell Elizabeth everything will work out and that she’s beautiful. I didn’t understand then, but…well do you think she knew about little Lila.”

Elizabeth tugged Emily down on the couch to sit with her. “Emily, I am sorry I didn’t tell you or share Lila with you until you came to Greece, but yes Lila knew. When she got so sick I had just had Lila and I didn’t think I could face Jason or any of you. But Ned and Kristina were always keeping me updated. I loved Lila and thought of her as my grandmother too. I wanted her to know that she had a great-granddaughter named after her. So one time I had Ned take a laptop in with a video link to me and I showed her Lila. I promised her that when the time was right and I could handle it I would come and tell Jason. That’s all she asked of me and now I am going to do it. Do you think you can help me?”

As Emily and Elizabeth hugged Lila patted their cheeks and baby talked to them.

“Well isn’t this just a cozy little scene. Does Nikolas know the little bitch that broke his brother’s heart is in his house?”

Emily looked at Elizabeth and nodded her understanding. Elizabeth rose and cuddled Lila to her. “Emily, if you will excuse me I will go get us ready and when you’re done here we can go.”

Turning to face Carly Emily prepared herself for the sniping she was sure would happen. “Carly, what can I do for you?”

“So Miss Muffet is back in town, huh. Bet your brother won’t be too happy about that.”

“Carly, you wouldn’t know what Jason was happy about anymore so just back off. He did this final favor for you getting you your job back at Deception, so why don’t you be happy he did that.”

“Jason and I will work things out we always do. But you make sure Miss Muffet stays away from him.”

“Carly…ya know what I am not having this conversation with you. Whatever you need isn’t here, so why don’t you go to Nikolas’ office and take care of the business you need to handle.”

Dismissing Carly with a turn of her back and walking away she just barely heard the muttered threat. “That little Robin wanna be better watch her back.”

Sitting in Lila’s rose garden Elizabeth felt her presence. “Emily thanks for bringing me here. I know your relationship is a bit strained with the elopement, so I appreciate you coming with me.”

“It’s not a problem. I actually come here quite frequently to spend time with grandmother.”

“You know she would’ve been thrilled for Nikolas and you. I believe she is watching us and smiling. We are doing things our way and keeping people on their toes. We never were ones to conform to what people thought we should do. I think she got quite the chuckle out of that when she was here with us.”

“Who’s out here? Emily, glad you’ve come to your senses and left that Cassadine.”

“Grandfather, don’t start. You know I haven’t left Nikolas, nor will I. I just brought Elizabeth here to spend some time in grandmother’s garden.”

“Elizabeth, well hello, I almost didn’t recognize you. How are you doing? Who’s this sweet little girl?”

“Hello Mr. Quartermaine, this is my daughter Lila.”

“Lila…you named her after my Lila. She is beautiful.”

“Thank you, Mr. Quartermaine. I just wanted to say how much I always loved spending time with Mrs. Quartermaine.”

“I believe that was grandmother to you.”

“You are right that was what she was to me. I just got into town and wanted to show my daughter this special place. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Not at all, are you staying with your grandmother?”

“Actually, no I am saying at Spoon Island.”

“That wretched place is no place for a child.”

“Grandfather, how many times…”

“Emily, don’t we need to go so we don’t miss that appointment?”

“What? Oh, yes. Grandfather, I am sure we will continue this lovely conversation again soon.”

“Mr. Quartermaine, as always it was a pleasure.”

“Oh my God, he just infuriates me. Why can’t he just let it be and be happy for me?”

“Emily, calm down he is your grandfather and I don’t think he will ever change. We Cassadine’s will just have to keep reminding you of why you love us so.” The girl’s laughter died down as they saw Jason’s bike parked next to Emily’s car.

Jason stood staring with a blank look on his face at Elizabeth and Elizabeth’s breath caught in her throat. Maybe she wasn’t ready for this.

Ch. 3


Elizabeth watched the enforcer look come over Jason’s face as he turned from her to Emily. “Why?”

“Jason it’s not like that.”

“You knew Emily and you didn’t say a word.”

“I just found out I promise I didn’t mean for you to find out this way.”

“You would rather I hear from Carly who has reappeared then tell me yourself. We are supposed to be family.”

“STOP!”

“This isn’t any of your business.”

“Yes it is. I won’t stand here while you yell at her for letting me handle things my way. You have no claim to me and though your sister wanted to tell you she respected that I have the right to choose how and when you find out I am in town.”

“And would you have told me? I mean it’s not like you told me you were leaving.”

Jason’s voice had gotten louder as he spoke and in the end he was hollering. And now Lila was crying and clinging to her mom. “Sh…Sh…Come on baby girl, its okay.” She watched the expression on Jason’s face change to frustration at the crying baby. “I will talk to you if you can talk, but I won’t sit here and have you yelling at Emily and me.” Looking toward Emily she saw her eyes downcast. She knew Jason had hurt Emily when he yelled at her. “Em, I really think this conversation would be better where there wasn’t an audience. Do you have a key to the gate house?” At Emily’s brief nod Elizabeth turned to Jason. “If you would like to come talk to me at the gate house I will talk, but we will not getting in a screaming match.”

As they entered the house Elizabeth felt Lila finally starting to calm down. That was good because she was going to have Emily feed her lunch while she sat Jason down for a long overdue chat. “Emily would you do me a favor and take Emily in the kitchen for lunch, everything you need is in the diaper bag.” Emily looked unsure and couldn’t even look at her brother. “I think it is best if Jason and I talk alone first. You didn’t do anything wrong Emily, you were a good friend and hopefully he will see you did the best you could.”

Jason watched the women interact seeing the hurt on Emily’s face he felt bad. But damn why did she keep Elizabeth’s coming to town a secret from him? She knew how he felt about Elizabeth, how long he had been looking for her. Walking toward his sister he stopped as she turned and headed for the kitchen with the baby. “Em,” he called after her. When she turned slightly turned him Jason sighed, “Emily, I am sorry I jumped on your case without knowing what was going on. I hope you and I will be okay.” Emily sniffled and nodded, but headed to the kitchen without really looking at him. Damn now he hurt his sister and that was something he wouldn’t forgive himself for anytime soon.

“Will you sit so we can talk?”

Jason noticed that Elizabeth took a seat in the chair so he couldn’t be to near her. “So will you answer my question, were you going to tell me you were in town?”

“To be honest yes, but only because I need to tell you something I should’ve a long time ago.” Seeing Jason’s frustration Elizabeth decided to just tell him and get it over with. “Jason I came to town on business, but while I was here I wanted to tell you that when I left I was pregnant.”

Jason’s face went from blank to shock in about a half a second. “Pregnant?”

“Yes, I didn’t know until I was gone. Then when I had the courage to face you, you were already married.” Jason’s groan of frustration nearly stopped her in her tracks, but she knew it was better to just lay all the cards on the table. “I had our daughter almost a year ago.”

“Daughter, I have a daughter.”

“I named her Lila after grandmother Q. I know you will be angry that I kept her from you, but I couldn’t come back here with you all married just to say oh by the way I pregnant.”

“You had my daughter a year ago and just now decide to come see me. Did I ever know you? How could you do this?”

And he was yelling again. Elizabeth stood up and headed for the kitchen.

“No, you don’t get to walk out on me again and especially not with MY DAUGHTER.”

“I told you I wouldn’t have a screaming match with you and I meant it.”

Jason glared at her, “You can't come drop a bomb like oh by the way you’re a dad and expect me to just be calm.”

“When our daughter can hear us, yes I expect you to stay calm. Did you miss where she burst into tears when you went off outside?” Elizabeth turned from him and again headed to the kitchen.

“You can do what you want, but you won’t be taking my daughter anywhere.”

Elizabeth tried to keep herself together and not go crazy, but he had said the one thing she was afraid he would. Keeping her back turned to Jason so he wouldn’t see her tears Elizabeth replied in as even a voice as she could manage. “Lila and I will be at Windermere if you would like to see her. I wouldn’t suggest pulling any Sonny like stunts with me Jason you don’t know me anymore.” With that she walked into the kitchen and flipped open her phone. “Make sure Jason Morgan is watched at all times. Notify me anytime he is headed toward my daughter or myself. And she is to go nowhere with him along unless I give the word in person.”

Jason overheard the conversation as he walked into the kitchen. “You can play any game you want Elizabeth, but my daughter is not leaving my sight.” He sensed the person one moment before he felt his gun removed from his person. “What the hell?”

“Your gun will be returned to you. And just so you know I don’t play games, Jason. If you would like to see your daughter before we leave I would suggest you calm down.”

Emily looked shocked and tensed as Jason looked her way. What the hell was happening? She knew Elizabeth’s business was private and that she was good at whatever it was she did, but to have someone guarding them that Jason didn’t notice was just mind boggling. “Elizabeth is it really necessary…”

“Emily I am sorry you are being put in the middle. I wish it didn’t have to be like this, but I won’t have Jason threatening me.”

“Jason…”

“Emily, I think you should stay out of this. Obviously Elizabeth has decided she wants to play games. Disappearing, hiding my child, and all because I didn’t tell her something business related.”

“Oh that is priceless, you really think Sonny’s faked death was enough to make me leave town. I mean yeah, I was hurt who wouldn’t be when the people they considered family didn’t think they were important enough to tell the truth. And really how business related could it have been if his sister and wife knew? However, that was just a minor betrayal compared to the one I found out a few days later.”

“Oh I betrayed you did I? How is that, Elizabeth?”

“Well, when I am in a relationship with someone and we have problems I don’t generally go running into the bed of another person. But then again I am just Elizabeth the girl you couldn’t even tell your boss you were seeing.”

“Elizabeth, I think you have a screw loose. I wasn’t sleeping with anyone else. You walked out and I tried to give you space only to find that you had split town and apparently dropped off the face of the earth.”

“Really you weren’t screwing the blonde bimbo posing as Sonny’s so innocent sister? I just imagined seeing you in her bed with her?”

“What in the hell are you talking about?”

“How long did it take you to realize I had left? A week, a month? Or did someone else have to tell you because you were so wrapped up in protecting Courtney from her stalker?”

“Elizabeth, I told you then and I will tell you now I was protecting Courtney for Sonny. Did I like it? NO! Did I sleep with her? HELL NO!”

Elizabeth growled in frustration and looked around for Emily and Lila. “Where did they go?”

“Who?”

“Emily and Lila, I didn’t even see them leave the room.”

“Well, I am sure they are safe with your bodyguard.”

“He’s not my guard, he’s Lila’s guard.”

“Why does she need a guard? What did you get yourself into Elizabeth?”

Jason’s pacing was going to drive her nuts. “I didn’t get into anything Jason. Lila’s father happens to be in the mob and since I wasn’t about to take any chances she has protection. And they are the best as you’ve seen.”

“Well, I have to give you that, but since I didn’t know I had a daughter why would you need protection.”

“Jason you were the one that taught me to cover all my bases. You can never be too sure and our daughter wasn’t going to be a casualty of circumstances.”

“Our daughter! God Elizabeth, why didn’t you come and tell me? Why keep this secret and if you were going to keep it a secret why come now?”

“Jason, it was so hard to watch you be with Courtney and then to find out you had married Brenda. I just wasn’t strong enough to have to stand silently by while you moved on with your life. So I did the chicken @#%$ thing and ran away. I wanted to tell you, but I knew with everything else going on in my life I just couldn’t deal with you too. I was selfish I didn’t want to have to share our daughter with anyone else and I would’ve had to share with you and your wife.”

“Elizabeth, I am only going to say this one more time, I was NEVER with Courtney. And Brenda well that was a favor that I wish I could take back. Elizabeth I never wanted you to move out I just wanted you. You were the one that walked away.”

“Obviously we are stuck because I know what I saw and for some reason you don’t want to come clean about Courtney. I walked away because it was obvious that Carly and Courtney were what mattered and I was just the girl you had in bed at home when you wanted her.”

The sadness in Elizabeth’s pain tore through the anger. His head sank into his hands. Jason just didn’t understand why she was so convinced that he slept with Courtney. He tried to think of anything that could clue him in because it was obvious that she believed whatever it was that she saw. “Elizabeth you were never, could never, be just a girl in my bed. God, don’t you know that you tore my life apart when you left. I didn’t think I was ever going to be…”

“No, I can’t do this. You and I, the past, none of it matters. All that matters is that we find a way to get along for Lila’s sake. I won’t let her get hurt because we want to rehash history.”

Jason wanted to shake her in frustration. They needed to talk, more importantly he needed to know why she had left and if she would stay. No matter how angry he was at her Jason knew that the minute Elizabeth walked back into his life was the minute his heart started beating again. “Fine, we’ll talk later. And in the interest of keeping Lila safe I will play by your rules for now, but I want to see her.”

“Why don’t you come to dinner at Windermere and you can spend the evening getting to know her.”

“I will follow you there if you don’t mind.

Ch. 4


Elizabeth was quiet in the car and Emily wasn’t sure if she should talk. Emily didn’t understand why Elizabeth thought Jason was ever sleeping with Courtney. When she came to town Courtney and AJ were going through their bitter divorce and Jason was married to Brenda. AJ had made accusations about Courtney jumping from his bed to Jason’s but when Emily confronted Jason about it he had told her AJ was making things up. As they pulled up to the parking area above the docks Emily looked over at Elizabeth she seemed anxious and this worried Emily. “Elizabeth, are you sure this is all right?”

“Thanks for being concerned Emily, but I have to do this for Lila.”

“No, Elizabeth if this is too much I can talk to Jason. I will make sure he understands…”

Turning toward Emily Elizabeth smiled slightly. “You are the best friend a woman could ask for trying to protect me from your brother. It’s time I faced up to the decisions I made. Lila deserves a chance to know her father.”

“You promise if it gets to be too much you will tell me?”

“I promise, Em.” Elizabeth turned to get out of the car. “And Em I really am sorry that you got caught in between Jason and me.”

Elizabeth was out the car door and reaching into the back for Lila’s carrier before Emily could react. Sighing quietly to herself Emily got out of the car wondering how she was going to get Elizabeth and Jason to listen to each other. No matter how hard she had tried in Greece Elizabeth had refused to hear how Jason had been on an insane hunt for her. Now she had Elizabeth making the same claims as AJ about Courtney and Jason. Emily decided it was time to show her Quartermaine and Cassadine colors and get to the bottom of what drove Elizabeth from town.

Alexis knew that the choice she made was the right one for her and Kristin. However, now staring at Harborview Towers she wondered what that choice was going to do to her orderly life. As she headed in the front doors she noticed the guards inside tense at the sight of her companion. Looking at Sergei Alexis couldn’t help but smile. Sergei was the biggest softie in the world when it came to Kristin and Lila, but heaven help anyone who might want to do them harm. Sometimes knowing the good people of governments came in handy. “Sergei, when we get to Mr. Corinthos’ penthouse I would like you to wait out in the hall.” Sergei’s nod could have been missed if you didn’t know him. “And play nice with Corinthos’ men, will you.” Seeing the smirk trying to form on his lips Alexis chuckled. As the elevator headed up Alexis’ steeled her nerves for what was sure to be a screaming battle. Exiting the elevator Alexis went over what she knew in her head. Sonny had divorced Carly and had custody of their children. And most importantly he had been searching for her. Alexis’ contacts were able to keep her well hidden, but she knew he had been getting close to finding her the last couple of months. Now she would find out what Sonny wanted from her.

The guard wasn’t one Alexis recognized and that relieved her some. Maybe he wouldn’t know who she was right off. “Can I help you?”

Sergei bristled at the tone. “Ms Cassadine is here to speak to Mr. Corinthos?”

At the mention of the Cassadine name the man seemed perplexed. Looking Alexis over and seeing the small child in the baby stroller he decided she was safe. Opening the door he spoke, “Ms. Cassadine for Mr. Corinthos.”

Alexis heard Leticia answer to let her in. Looking at Sergei to reassure him that she was fine going in alone Alexis pushed the stroller into the penthouse.

“Michael, look who’s…Ms. Davis, I thought Sam said Ms. Cassadine was here.”

“I’m sorry for the confusion, Leticia. I go by Alexis Davis-Cassadine now.”

“Oh, well. You are here to see Mr. Corinthos?”

“Yes, if he has time I would like to speak to Sonny.”

“I will go get him. Mr. Corinthos was just showing Michael how to prepare lunch.”

Smiling softly Alexis thought how that was just like Sonny to make sure his son knew how to cook properly. Turning toward the kitchen door as she heard someone coming into the room Alexis got her first look at the man she left almost two years ago. And that was the moment Kristin decided to wake up. “Mama, dink, Mama.” The tugging on her pant leg brought Alexis to her senses. “Hey baby girl. You have a good nap?” Taking Kristin from the stroller she heard the gasp as Sonny realized who was standing in his living room.

The voice was gruff with emotion and Sonny didn’t quite believe it was his. “Alexis?” After all his searching the one woman he really could say he loved without reservation was standing in his living room. It took a moment for him to realize she was holding a little girl. As this fact registered he saw the most adorable little grin and the dimples. Smiling back at her Sonny tried to calm his heart.

“Mama, mama…” patting her mom on the cheek Kristin peered over Alexis’ shoulder, “Mama, Dada.”

And in that moment shocked silence fell over the room. Alexis had always shown Kristin pictures of Sonny. She knew that one day Kristin would want to know who her father was and Alexis had decided to always tell her about the Sonny she knew. However, she never imagined Kristin would recognize Sonny at this age and blow her secret out of the water with a simple word. Turning toward Sonny she saw the shock on his face and watched it turn to anger. “Don’t even think about yelling Michael Corinthos.”

“You dare…” His voice was a low growl and seeing his…his daughter, turn her face and bury it in her mother’s neck made him check his tone. “What am I supposed to say or do Alexis?”

“I know it was unfair to bring her and expect you to take all of this in, but I had no choice. I couldn’t leave her with Nikolas since Carly was there. And I didn’t want you to find out about my being in town or my having Kristin from anyone other than myself.”

Striding over to the bar he stared at the bottles. Sonny had promised himself once he had custody of the boys that drinking wouldn’t be something he did in front of the boys under stressful circumstances. He thought about the fact that Alexis the woman he knew he loved was standing in his living room holding his daughter and though he was angry beyond words he was also elated. Alexis had come home. “Alexis, I just don’t know what to say.”

“Sonny, there is a lot for us to discuss.” Encouraged that he turned and looked at her, Alexis carefully placed Kristin down in the stroller seat and reached underneath to retrieve a sippy cup. “Do you mind if I have Sergei come in to take care of Kristin?”

At the mention of Sergei’s name Alexis saw Sonny stiffen and his eyes darken with anger. “Sergei?”

Running her hand soothingly over Kristin’s head Alexis kept her voice purposefully calm. “Sergei is Kristin’s guard and she is comfortable with him.” Sonny’s eyes widen and his temper seemed to cool a bit. “I think it is best if she has someone she knows to keep her from hearing our conversation.”

“I guess I will have to trust you. Leticia has Morgan and Michael in the kitchen feeding them lunch. If Sergei would like he could take Kristin in there or up to the nursery.”

Alexis walked to the door and opened it. Seeing the tension between the two men in the hall Alexis couldn’t help thinking it was probably good that Sergei was coming inside. “Sergei, would you please come in and take Kristin for me while I discuss things with Mr. Corinthos.”

As Sonny watched the Russian man enter his penthouse he couldn’t help but feel a bit apprehensive at the look the other man gave him. This was the type of man he hired to protect his family, a man who would do whatever it took to keep them safe no matter who got hurt. At that thought he was once again struck with respect and love for Alexis. A slight nod was the only communication from either man as Sergei bent to pick up Kristin and the diaper bag.

“Sergei if you would feed her lunch I would appreciate it.”

Alexis and Sonny were silent as they watched Sergei and Kristin leave the room. “You seem to know the right people.”

Alexis turned to Sonny with a slight smirk. “I’ve dealt with Helena Cassadine my whole life Sonny when it came time to protect my child I knew just who to call.”

“Never pegged you for knowing Russian mobsters.”

Alexis’ smirk turned to a grin. “I don’t, but Russian special ops I do know. Sergei is a friend who worked for me and when it came time to protect my daughter he never thought anyone was good enough, so I finally convinced him he was the man for the job.”

Sonny was quiet for a moment as he contemplated what Alexis had just revealed. “Are you in trouble?”

Walking to the couch and sitting down Alexis looked over at Sonny. “There are a lot of things we need to talk about. In order to do that I need to know if you are willing to listen to what I have to say.”

Sonny sat down across of Alexis and looked at her. She didn’t look like a woman who was running from something and she didn’t seem scared. “You promise not to disappear again?”

“I will stay for now.”

“Ok, I want to hear what you have to tell me."

Oh man, this is classic Elizabeth, overract to with only half of the info. Back then I used to get tired of her "Jason did me wrong" thing, when she wouldn't even listen to him. Don't get me wrong he was a jerk, but it would've been different if she'd bothered to listen. Nice fic I'm looking forward to more!
